Being new to the ship, Starr hadn’t thought about that yet. It took him a few moments of thinking about it before he responded. “Well, in the short term - to be a decent security officer. My Chief did suggest going into JAG with my successful law exam scores at the Academy. It’s something I’m thinking about, but I want to get some hands-on training before that,” he said with a slight smile. Joining JAG would definitely be a decent aspiration, but he also wasn’t so sure about a desk job yet. “Of course, like every security officer, I wouldn’t mind being chief myself one day - but that is a long-term goal, I don’t expect to reach it for a while. After that, who knows? JAG definitely is something I could consider, but I prefer not having to make those sorts of decisions. It’s a lot easier to enforce laws that are known and let those that have the authority deal with it. Either way, they are both a long way off yet,” he mentioned.

OOC: was just checking to bump the thread, then realised I didn’t sign it off, thought I did that… oops…

OOC: No worries! It happens to the best of us. ;)

IC:
“JAG would be an interesting goal to pursue. Maybe after you spend some time in the field, as a security officer, you can return to the thought and reevaluate it later on. Until then, I suggest you enjoy what you have now, but I doubt that will be much an issue for you.” Tal smiled, considering the Ensign’s aspirations. She had met few who didn’t have their eyes set on those two pips, or the centre chair; but it was always refreshing to meet one who knew his limits and understood how much it truly took to get to that point. “What about short term goals? Anything you can achieve in a few weeks, maybe a few months? Long term goals are great, but it’s easy to fall into depression when you aren’t continuously achieving something.”

“Well, for now, it’s just trying to get used to the crew and the shifts, something simple. Being new here, it will be good to get into the swing of things over the next few weeks. Right now it’s all about gathering experience, so each time I learn something right now is a small victory in my eyes,” Starr answered. “I guess that’s all for now. I’m sure once I’ve settled I will have things to aim for. Right now it’s to get to know the division the chief has put me on for my first shift. Get familiar with those the chief has put me in command of. I guess that would be my most immediate aim right now, when my shift starts,” Starr thought if there was anything else that he could do in the short term, but thought he would soon have more things in that regard in the near future.
