She entered with a warm smile and took a seat next to whom she presumed was the chief of security by her gold uniform. She extended her hand with a grin. “I don’t believe we’ve had the pleasure Lt? I’m Lt Kara, the very new chief science officer,” she said with a chuckle. She gave the CMO a friendly smile and nod, wondering if he would still be embarrassed about their mixup in sickbay.

Lt Kara (CSO)

Allison shook Kara’s hand somewhat limply, returning the grin with a friendly smile of her own. “I’m Lt Devlin, the very new chief of security,” she responded, her black eyes flashing in amusement at her humor. “It seems we’re in and on the same boat.” Wow, she really did need to get some sleep.

Iliana relaxed a little knowing she wasn’t the only new department head around, in fact it looked like there were a few apprehensive officers around that had only just stepped into their roles. “Very nice to meet you Lt,” she smiled warmly. She wasn’t normally a great fan of small talk and it didn’t come naturally to her but she knew it was part of the job and she needed to get comfortable talking to people more. “So, new to the ship or just new to the position?” Iliana asked as she poured herself a glass of water and offered one to her new friend.

Lt (jg) Kara (CSO)

“It’s wonderful to meet you as well, Lieutenant,” Allison responded, her smile still warm even with her worn out demeanor. “I’m new to both the ship and to the position,” she continued with a rueful grin. “How about you?” she queried. She appreciated the chance to socialize before the mission briefing in front of them, primarily because it was keeping her awake for the moment. She pondered an espresso with longing, but mostly kept her attention on the CSO beside her.

Iliana grinned widely and nodded. “Same here, its been a bit of a last minute rush, I haven’t even unpacked yet!” she chuckled. Iliana looked around the room and noticed a few people were still to come. She turned back to Devlin and smiled. “Looks like there’s still a few to come, shall we grab a coffee?” She asked hopefully. Although it wasn’t a usual choice for a Bajoran, she had developed quite a taste for it at the academy and was now well and truly addicted to it.

Lt (jg) Kara (CSO)

“Same,” Allison responded with a quick grin. “Although I’m so messy that it’s probably more orderly to keep everything packed up and to live out of boxes,” she added with a laugh. “I’d love a coffee, although I didn’t think that was a typical choice for a Bajoran,” she commented, getting to her feet to make her way over to the replicator. Now that Kara had made it socially acceptable for her to caffeinate, nothing was going to stop her. “Double espresso over ice,” she demanded of the machine and excitedly grasped her beverage when it appeared. Taking a small sip, she looked delighted and then moved out of the way so that the CSO could have her turn.

Iliana chuckled and nodded as she ordered a latte. “I know, it really isn’t but I blame my academy roommate for it, that girl had coffee flowing through her veins and she got me hooked!” Iliana replied with a grin as she took a sip. “We should have an unpacking party?” she offered with a giggle.

“Let’s do it,” Allison responded, including her own smirk and giggle. “With a few of these, we should both be unpacked in no time,” she commented, holding up her espresso in a mock cheers fashion, hoping the Bajoran was aware of the custom.

Tenzing appeared moments later with a steaming mug of hot chocolate. He never caught on to coffee except during his time on the Einstein (where sleep was scarce), though he was known to be caught with a bottle of tea once every so often. The newly promoted officer straightened out his shirt before taking a seat in his usual spot closer to the CO. The two new department heads would notice that Trainor, being 22, was a tad young for his rank.

“I’m Tenzing Trainor.” He called out to Devlin and Kara.

Kara set her coffee mug down and eagerly extended her hand. “Lt Kara, pleased to meet you sir,” she said warmly, as she raised an eyebrow at the young man as she noticed how young he looked. “So are you new to the ship as well Lt Cmdr?” she asked curiously.

Tenzing shook his head and returned the handshake. “I was originally assigned here to assist the crew with a mission, but was picked to stay on.” The Ops Officer knew Kara was curious about his backstory, but felt the thought of his past would be too much to bare since he was the only one to either survive or fully recover.

Drudoc turned back from her quiet thoughts to address her assembled staff. “..Alright everyone let’s take seats we got a busy briefing to get through and given its nature I want everyone to be able to prep your departments ahead of our launch..” She said.

Kara picked her cup up and dutifully retook her seat, turning her attention to the Captain. She was relieved that she wasn’t the only new face at the table, there was nothing worse than being the only newbie.

Lt Kara (CSO)

Allison followed Kara back to the table and slid back into her seat next to her. She did feel slightly more alert as she sipped the highly caffeinated beverage, but the chair was awfully comfortable. She shook herself slightly, twinging with embarrassment that she might have to struggle to stay awake at this highly important briefing.
