Allison easily jogged beside Starr, enjoying the feeling of the warm sand on her bare feet and the sun providing just enough warmth on her skin without the risk of overheating. The waves continued their gentle concert next to them as she kept them on the slightly damper and more compact sand near the water, still keeping the pace on the slower side for now.

“So how are you settling in?” she asked with a smile, still at a slow enough pace that her breathing and talking came easily.

Starr kept pace with the chief, and also wasn’t at a point where more effort had to be put in to breath, so responded “Pretty well, slowly getting to know more of the crew, and I feel like I won’t be getting lost on the ship as much now,” Starr said with a slight chuckle. The feeling of the damp sand beneath him made it a bit easier than on the drier sand, and the constant sounds of the waves bought a sense of peace and calm to him. It wasn’t the peace and calm he was used to living in farmland in the countryside, but the sound of the gentle waves reminded him of the sound of the wind in the trees when he would go running through a local forest to him.

Allison started to increase their pace a bit, enough to start showing some exertion but not to rule out chatting. She moved slightly closer to the waves so that the final trickles of each wave would roll over her feet, keeping her cool. “Well, if there’s an emergency, they can call you then, since I’m still getting lost,” she responded with a laugh. “Have you been finding things to keep you busy on R&R?”

Simon also moved over a little, and fell into formation behind the chief so that he also got cooled by the sea. “I’ve been using the holodeck, I do enjoy going on forest hikes as well, revisiting some of the places from home that are stored in the computer,” he answered casually. “Guess, I like to get out in nature, or at least simulated nature,” he added with a small smile. “Of course, there’s also the other research into what happened with my brother, that I look into every now and then when I have some free time. Haven’t made any real progress on that recently though,” he also mentioned.

“It sounds like you’re definitely keeping busy then,” Allison responded with a grin, enjoying the slight shocks that came up her legs as her feet hit the packed sand as well as the cool water that squished in between her toes. “I think I’ve spent this whole week chasing down crew members who took the relaxation part of rest and relaxation a little too far.” She smiled bemusedly. “I can’t say that was how I envisioned the Chief of Security position working out. It wasn’t long ago that I was in your shoes…” A flicker of reminiscing appeared in her eyes. “I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t made any real progress, though. What was the last progress you did make?” She kept the pace brisk but steady to allow them to converse.

“Personally, I prefer the rest part,” Simon responded with a slight smile. “I learned while I was at the academy, that our department doesn’t exactly get all the juicy jobs, there’s a lot of tedious tasks we have to do, but even then, I’m OK with that,” he said shrugging.

“As to where I got last, I found that the ship was last sighted a few lightyears away from Orion space, on a trade route that took them past that way. It’s possible the Orions captured them, it’s also possible that they joined them, or maybe they destroyed them - nobody knows for sure,” he answered the chief’s question with a sigh.
