Eve felt decidedly more familiar among the company of machines and computers than she did in the presence of biological entities. Perhaps, she initiated an evaluation of the matter as she entered the Ark Angel’s engineering bay, it was because the reaction of a machine could be predicted with 100 percent accuracy, as long as one also knew the inputs and operating conditions of the machine under question. Whereas with humanoids she almost constantly failed to predict their responses to even a fixed array of conditions, due to the seemingly infinite permutations of those internal variables belonging to the class called ‘emotions’. Eve herself possessed no inherent programming to replicate these emotions but through her self-learning module had succeeded in mapping out countless emotions and their corresponding properties. For example, happiness could be detected (and also mimicked) by configuration of the lips into an upturned arc shape along with a slight narrowing of the eyes, a semi-musical overlay to any vocal sounds and often the desire to consume alcohol. Whereas sadness could be similarly detected by configuration of the lips into a downturned arc with the bottom lip protruding, as well as the evacuation of salt water from the eyes and often the desire to consume alcohol.

However, as Eve approached the office of Lt Miz’uki, Chief Engineer of the Ark Angel and her new superior, she was not consciously attempting to mimic any of the emotions she had mapped. But still, the slight constriction of the chest cavity, the rapid tracking of the pupils, the powerful desire for alternative instruction that would not lead her to this door…they returned only one possible emotion from her dataset - fear. Fear of biological entities and their unpredictable reactions, fear of their hatred and disgust towards synthetic lifeforms, fear that, while the Captain had personally requested Eve to join her crew, this sentiment might not be shared amongst the other lifeforms onboard.

So great, in that moment, was this sensation of fear, that exactly seventeen minutes and fifty-three seconds elapsed between Eve raising her left hand to the doorchime and allowing her bioplast-coated fingertip to activate it.

there was no answer An Andorian woman walked up “Hi there I am Ensign Sathi Sh’Therhik” she said Offering a Hand to the New officer to shake

Eve took the offered hand and shook it with what appeared to be profound enthusiasm.
“Hello, Ensign Sathi Sh’Therhik. I am Lt Eve.”

“If you’re looking for the Chief I think she is in Jefferies tube Over here…” she lead the Android over to the Jefferies tube access and gave her directions to where the Andorian last saw the chief engineer “we are checking over the Bio-neural Gel packs for any damaged ones after a couple of our Plasma flow regulators were stolen” she explained smiling at the newcomer

Tralla

“Stolen?” the android repeated with a questioning inflection. “Who would do such a thing? And for what purpose?”

Orion Pirates They kidnapped a couple other officers The XO being one of them I think…Anyway Lieutenant Miz’uki is in there I’m sure it should be pretty simple to find Shes actually shedding right now so shes leaving hair all over the place” the Andorian giggled “Oh here mind taking these to her…She asked me to bring her spare Gel packs just encase a couple needed changing But since your looking for her I can get back to the Shuttle maintenance Her and the captain are pretty particular about the Flying Angel being maintenance” Sathi Added simply

Sathi

“Shedding?” Eve replied. A most curious choice of verb to apply to a chief engineer. But this was no human chief engineer. Lieutenant Miz’uki would represent the android’s first ever personal encounter with a Caitian. She wondered, briefly, if she should have brought an introductory gift with her. A ball of wool, perhaps.

Taking the gel packs from Sathi, Eve stored them securely in a large pouch on her tool-belt, then began to climb gracefully into the tube. At the last moment, she paused and turned back to the retreating Andorian.
“Pirates? I have read about them in Peter Pan. How…exciting.”

And with that, Eve disappeared wholly into the tube. After a few moments of shuffling, she successfully located the engineering chief.

“Lieutenant Miz’uki,” Eve called out. “I am Eve. I am your new engineer. I have brought gel packs.”
