It was a few days after the Ark Angel had returned the Browns Town survivors to their new lives in the late 24th century to Starbase 243. The Ark Angel was currently in dock enjoying some R&R the past few days when it was suddenly cut short by a ship wide comm call from their Captain =/\= Attention all hands prepare for ship departure in 30 minutes. All senior staff report to the briefing room in 5 minutes for an urgent mission briefing. =/\= Drudoc’s voice said.

Most of the crew were on Starbase 243, but Simon was on the skeleton crew left behind. He had got his time to send a message to his mother. There were reports that his brother had started doing mercenary work. This was the first piece of news any of them had for five years about his brother. And he didn’t know how his parents were going to take it. He looked at the PaDD with the report of pirates operating nearby, and saw a name he wasn’t happy to see. He sent the list with all but one of the names removed or redacted. It was a clear enough message, and he would need to talk to them about it. He just didn’t know what words to use at the moment.

When Drudoc’s voice interupted his thoughts for a moment, he made his way to the briefing room, bein the first to arrive. He made sure the room was ready for the rest of the senior staff and placed some PaDDs for notetaking and replicated some pens and paper for those that preferred the more traditional methods. He then took a seat in his usual spot and awaited the arrival of the rest of the senior staff.

“I want you to observe NLt Cummings at Ops, Truhart,” Trainor told the Cadet as they stepped onto the Bridge. “I know you’re supposed to spend your senior cruise at the Helm, but you’ll find that being cross-trained in operations and astrology, and maybe even engineering will do you justice if you ever want to sit in the center chair one day.”

“I understand, Commander.” Cadet Truhart stated as the pair made their way over to the Operations Station. “Looks like I’ll be watching you,” Jensen said to the NLieutenant at the station.

”…more like observing..” Tenzing shot back. Lieutenant Commander Trainor gestured for the Cadet to get closer to the station so he could observe the diagnostic on the eps relay systems. “I’ll be in the Conference Room, and will be back out to check on things when it’s over.” The Operations Chief explained before heading off to join the Senior Staff meeting.

“Starr, I don’t think I had the time to congratulate you,” Trainor said as he entered the conference room. The young officer quickly took a seat and turned back to the XO. “Have you met Cadet Truhart yet?” Tenzing asked. “I sure haven’t met anyone so hungry for knowledge but yet so cocky…” The Operations Officer shrugged and picked up a PaDD from the table. “I’m just surprised they didn’t get rid of senior cruises after the Einstein disappeared..”

“Thanks for the congratulations. I was a little surprised when the captain asked me to take on the role.” Simon said honestly to Trainor. He had been on board when Simon was just a security Ensign and had seen him around. Even spoke to him once or twice, but in his new position, he hadn’t had an opportunity to get to the operations department and thought there would be a good opportunity after the meeting. “

In regards to the cadets, I said the same thing when they decided to start allowing families on board starfleet vessels after the dominion war,” Simon responded with a slight smile when Trainor started talking about Truheart. “I haven’t the pleasure of meeting the senior cadets with us this time yet. I usually do introduce myself at some point. You think he has command potential?” he asked as his department head. When he heard those two combinations, he knew the perfect scenario to ensure the academy gave them before they graduated.

Arthur was in the middle of fixing–or rather stabbing–an annoying pest in a holodeck training simulation when the call for departure came in. “This isn’t over, O’kar.” He growled at the dark skinned Klingon he had pinned down with his Bat’leth. “End program and save.” He said to the computer as the grid pattern returned on the holodeck.

He swung by his quarters, changing into his uniform, and hanging his Bat’leth back on the wall, before running to the lift. He arrived right at the five minute mark, managing to get to his seat without drawing too much attention to himself. “Sorry I’m late, sir.”

Arthur Jones, son of Ruk

Simon nodded towards Arthur as he came in, being the second to arrive. “Your not late, Lieutenant,” Simon responded with a smile, noting the captain had yet to also take her seat gesturing toward the empty chair.
