Feeling a bit still at getting the pronunciation wrong none the less she shook away the feeling as she watched the lieutenant move over to the replicator, thinking it rude not to accept his offer she said simply, “I wouldn’t pass the opportunity to have an amber shot? Non-Alcoholic of course but the taste reminds me of home.” Kal said before going on to say “If that’s ok of course?” As she finished her last sentence she took the seat indicated opposite to where she assumed guy would seat and observed the pancakes on the table.

“Sure, an amber shot for you.” He said as he ordered the drink and handed her the glass. As he sat down and took the fork and the knife to cut the pancakes, he slightly pushed forward the plated and offered her some “if you want, you can take a piece, Ensign.” He said shyly.

Kala eyed the plate and as if on queue her stomach grumbled “I guess that’s my stomach’s way of saying ‘Hell’s yeah‘” She took the small piece he had cut for her and slowly put it in her mouth. Rolling the piece around she could taste the sweetness of the syrup and the weird texture from the pancake itself, she wasn’t much of a fan of the pancake but the syrup she could try again.

“So, Ensign Gorvel, let’s start with something more, personal. I read about your family problems and some kind counselor told me about your experience. I was fascinated about how many people actually have family problems like me so why not tell me about them, what’s the root of this familiar splitting.” He ate a fork of plenty pancakes and quietly stared at her with his ice-colored accusatory eyes.

Sitting back she crossed her legs and her arms in a defensive posture before letting out a sharp breath “Well” She started, ‘I hope he’s ready to write ‘has daddy issues’ down. “Starfleet is the issue, well not really more my decision to leave Trill and my duties of carrying a symbiont to join Starfleet is the issue. I haven’t spoken to him since I left, my mother and sister however send messages to me sometimes when he’s out but the last time was a few months or so before I graduated.” She explained, “I’m kind of over it, obviously I’d like my family to be proud of what I’ve achieved but hey who cares right?”

Guy took a notepad made of good ol’ paper and started writing down stuff that only his person could know about. As he heard the story about the dad and the decision to enter Starfleet he almost immediately stopped writing and looked at her with a sharp sight “Dad, problem.” He pointed the pen nib down, chuckling a bit and returning with his serious face “Ugh, well girl, can I call you like that for now? Stop for a moment. Let’s talk about your dad, okay?” He asked “Tell me more about him and why he stopped talking to you. It is just the symbiont problem related to starfleet? How does this fact affect your way of working.”

“If you don’t want to talk about it, remember that I had some issues with my parents too, both of them so I know how you can feel. My mother was once a marine and discouraged me to enter Starfleet or at least to take a position which did not involved any dangerous action. Now look at me. I am a damn counselor instead of a medic. I asked why I was shifted into counseling course but meh, no one told me. Until I discovered the truth and practically almost abandoned my place.” He told her as he took again pen and notepad.

Appreciating the counselor sharing his story Kala could only but allow him to hear hers. “My family is considered to be a well respected Trill family, our symbionts have been in the family for generations and my sister and I were due to become hosts. I don’t have on an objection of being a host I really don’t but it takes time and dedication. Dedication I wanted to spend on Starfleet. My father....” Kalas hand went to either side of her head in a clenched fist before exploding away, she even made the sounds for added effect. “

“Oh boy, he figured I was trying to topple our families little empire and destroy everything he had worked for but in truth, he inherited it all for his father’s father and so on until the end of time. He was a loving father all the way through my childhood until that very moment, he was never abusive but he had a mean temper and when I slammed down on that big red do not touch button… Warp core breach” She said in a sarcastic tone.

“He marched me to my room, locked me in, and told me to pack my things. ‘If you want to throw away this family’s proud heritage out then we’ll throw you out and then you’ll be sorry, Starfleet will never fill the void you leave behind child! Now pack and make it quick!” Kala shuddered and the hairs on her arms raised “I hate him.”
