“Well thank you, and you can call me Kala by the way Lieutenant.” She placed her tray of food down and pulled the chair out to sit on it. Shuffling herself under the table she picked up her knife and fork to cut her bagel in half. “Its never too late to eat, I mean really there’s no time in space just what we tell ourselves is the time,” She said with a shrug taking a bite of her bagel and sighed the taste of smoked salmon smothered her taste buds.

“You’re right I guess, Ms. Kala.” He chuckled “what’s that? You are making me hungry.” He asked with pleasure while he suddenly stood up towards the wall replicator “You know, I’ve never met someone at this ‘hour’ really. All the time I came here for boredom was most likely me and the stars. Time to time of course some engineers and science officer were to come for a coffe, but well, never saw anyone at this time of the ‘night’ eating things. You’re pretty particular, Kala.” He commented

Finishing a mouthful of her bagel she made sure her mouth was clear before saying “Smoked salmon and cream cheese in a white bagel its very yummy” As if to drive the point home she took another small bite and sighed with delight closing her eyes as she overexpressed her liking for the food before adding. “I’m a pretty peculiar person, and I’m awesome too.”

At that time, the Mess hall was pretty much calm, not a bug was flying to make a sound and just the rumble of the engines and the various parts of the ship were kings of the dead silence. Guy, as his usual, was to take some spanish or british cousin dish when another thought flooded his head “Nah, not today…” he said before deleting the order “Computer, I wish some toast with grilled chicken filet, lettuce, tomatoes, mozzarella and a thin layer of greek sauce with a spice of pepper. Also add a glass of Orange juice.”

Kala continued to eat as Guy navigated his way across the room to get himself something to eat. It was ironic that he would say she was peculiar when he too was very much a unique individual one whom Kala enjoyed the company of. Taking the last bite of her bagel she turned her attention to her iced espresso. Picking the mug she took a sip a slight sigh leaving her lips as she did. She was never a fan of hot drinks.

Returning to the table and sitting on the far side of the table, Guy looked at Kala’s eyes and then again to the tray before offering her a taste of the sandwich “Would you like to try it? Isn’t that much, but it actually taste good.” He asked gently as he cut in half the meal and drank some of the juice before eating one of the halves “Don’t tell anyone, but I actually get bored sometimes. That’s why I sometimes come here… uhm observing the stars with a cup of whatever. What about you this night?”

Having caught his eyes Kala smiled politely back and turn found herself suddenly feeling conscious of that one bit of hair that had fallen in front of her face so she tucked it away behind her left ear. “I’d love to try some,” She said reaching over for the cut sandwich and trying it almost immediately. It was something she hadn’t tried before and she wasn’t a fan of the tomato, but the sauce and the chicken was a nice combination. “Not quite my cup of tea so they say but its nice,” She said having just finished her bite. “Well if you’re bored you can come help me in the lab, I’m currently doing an experiment on a plant which has a very unique ability. That’s what I’ve doing when I’m excited I can’t sleep which is why you get to share this lovely opportunity with me, and me with you.”

“Yeah I prefer more stuff from my heritage than this… this Sandwich. It is funny how the first time I tasted it I was kinda embarrassed to say it sucked to the cook. But then, well I enjoyed it.” Guy said “it was more than 10 years ago, when I was still 20. Ugh, a very young Guy a different one.” He kept telling Kala remembering his past, about his experience on Earth. Then as he ate the last bit of his beloved mediocre sandwich, Guy drank the last half of the orange juice that was still there since he left the glass on the table and looked straight to the sky and said “Yeah I am pretty bored. Even thought, I always loved this view and it usually filled my boredom time to time. Ugh I hate to say it but let’s try this… plant experiment? Why not?” He half-smiled to the beautiful woman that was on the other side of the grey thick table.

Guy stood up and took His and Kala’s tray to the replicator, as the gentleman’s etiquette dictated so. Beforehand, he never joined any particularly exciting experiments and to be honest, the curiosity of the Counselor regarding whatever the Officer was talking about was pretty low. But as he would have started to notice slowly, he felt comfortable around her company and almost felt like a friendship or whatever they called it was just born.
“Let’s go? You can lead the way.” He said cleaning his uniform and keeping his usual cold expression to avoid losing the already trained jerky face. What a stupid!
