After speaking with the aCSO Sharah decided she better try and report in with the XO. Usually, as a medical doctor she only had two actual check-ins because her physical and department check in over lapped. She was feeling a little like she was on a crazy carnvel ride at the moment. One of those that used centrifical force to sling you out to the edge and then throw you back in. She checked the deck listing and headed back up the decks to the XOs office.

Once there is took a deep breath. This was actually the first time she’d ever had to check in with the XO, or for that matter the CO, of her ship. She needed just a moment to make sure she had a feel for the ship around her and rang the chime to the XOs office.

Simon wasn’t expecting any more appointments as the chime rang some time after the last check-in. Just as he was about to replicate himself a lemon tea, he was about to turn around back to his desk. From next to the replicator he called out in a southern British accent, similar to that of a farmer, “Come in.”

Sharah, after a long day of check-ins, didn’t bother with a steadying breath this time. The noise that was the sea she surfed aboard was starting to get a little rough. She was more concerned with keeping the volume turned down than she was with being nervous. She entered the office at the sound of the XO’s voice. Coming to attention, “En. Sharah Fayth, Sir. I’m sorry for the late call Lt. Cmdr. It was suggested that since the CSO transferred out that I should report to you and introduce myself. I’m the new botanist.” And then she realized she probably should have just given her name rather than acted like they were already on conversational terms. Oh well, it wouldn’t be the first time she’d mucked up social conventions.

Simon looked toward the new Ensign. He had looked over the Ensigns file earlier in the day, and was aware that this was her first assignment on a vessel of this size. “Ah, yes of course, please, take a seat,” he said in a friendly tone, gesturing towards a chair at his desk. Before wondering over he asked “would you like anything from the replicator?” As he picked up his own lemon tea that had just finished replicating as Fayth entered the room.
