Riley boarded the turbolift on deck 13 and leaned back against the wall as the doors slid closed. Leave one investigation for another, he mused. One with a potentially wider impact. He shook his head, exhaling slowly.=^= Please state your destination, =^= intoned the voice from the comm speaker by the door.
He straightened and tugged down his top. =^= Deck 11, counselor’s office, =^= he requested.
He stepped off a few seconds later and glanced at his PADD to check directions. I just did this, he thought outside the door. Then again, I did just also participate in a murder investigation. Well, a small part.
He took a deep breath and pressed the counselor’s office door chime.
He rocked back and forth on his heels waiting for a response.

Dinui had slowly been making small changes to the office that was now her own, the color in the room was a cool mint green along the port side walls, the starboard side were lavender. There were several shelves around the room each with it’s own center piece, the majority were from her personal collection of bonsai trees, two shelves however had blank canvas and sealed painting kits. She sat in a chair, the desk was significantly smaller than it had been for the previous counselor, she wanted the extra room for a bigger couch and set of chairs for folks to sit comfortable and relax. There was a platter of fresh croissants on her desk and at the sound of the chime she looked up with a smile, “It’s open!”
Dinui rose to her feet and nodded at the room, “Make yourself at home, would you like anything to drink or maybe one of these croissants?”

Riley stepped in as the door opened, looking around at the decor. The colors were calming, pleasant but not overly bright. The various bonsai of course reminded him of Hilo on the Challenger. Never will forget that guy, he thought with a smile.
He perked up at the mention of croissants, and when the scent hit his nose he knew he was done for, even having just told Lieutenant Fayth he wasn’t hungry. “Um, yes, please,” he responded. “I’ll take a croissant, and a glass of water. Thank you.” He approached and sat in one of the armchairs, blue eyes still looking around the room.
The painting supplies intrigued him. What are those for? he wondered. Art therapy of some kind? “I’m Ensign Matthew Riley,” he said, belatedly, a slight blush creeping in as he realized his faux pas. “Reporting for my boarding evaluation.”

“You may call me Dinui or xi’Indrai if you wish, I only pull rank when there’s other higher officers around to insist on strict protocol.” She said lightly as she got him a glass of water and brought over the croissants to let him choose which he preferred. “Is this your first posting?”

Riley accepted the glass with a nod and took a moment to select a croissant, holding it aloft briefly. “Thank you,” he said.
“Yes, my first assignment after my Academy cruise on the Challenger,” he answered the second question before taking a bite of the croissant. He looked around the room again as he chewed. This place is designed to relax, he thought.
“The Angel is much bigger than the Challenger was,” he laughed. “It’s an amazing opportunity.”

Dinui nodded as she settled into her own chair, “This is assignment is indeed a wonderful opportunity.” She picked up her cup of french vanilla cappuccino, “Do you have any questions for me?” She asked lightly, though she wondered which point he would bring up.
