If it's not chocolate, it's not breakfast.

“Oh no, no insects will be released except by adults and not until we know we can actually keep them contained, and have a way to track them if they get out. It will require quite a plan in place before we try it. And the species will have to be carefully selected. I’ll have to ask Dr Marshall for a list of allergies for personnel on board. I don’t want someone accidently getting stung by something that could hurt them.”

Lt. jg Fayth, CSO

”..Containing the insects by a one way forcefield pattern near air inlets and the like should be an easy enough to setup process, for larger insects we could use trackers to limited their wandering if it were to occur. Containment fields too for enclosing larger groups to specific areas or plants would be another option..” Drudoc said, obviously getting into and enjoying the process and having finished her breakfast by this point.

“I thought about those, but what if we had to cut power? That would be a non-essential system. I would want something in place to prevent that. Something as simple as a mesh screen at the air duct openings could work as long as the weave was tight enough and it was sealed around the edges. A stronger force of air near the doors would prohibit some flying insects from getting out, forcing them down and back towards the interior of the Arboretum. Crawling insects would create a different problem. The floor of the arboretum is fairly well sealed already because the dirt, water, and roots don’t get out, but the seams would need to be rechecked to ensure nothing as small as an ant could get through by accident.”

Drudoc seemed to consider that point. “..Perhaps in such a case and during yellow or higher alerts there is a sort of ‘lock down’ put into effect over such outlets?” Drudoc suggested. “..It would not be difficult to design such, a similar lockdown is in place for 17/18 Forward’s viewing ports and kitchens for example..”

Tel’eck meanwhile had also finished her meal. “..Well once more I’ll leave you two to talk shop I guess. I should go get my things ready for school in a half hour..” She said sliding off the chair. “..Thank you for inviting us over Lieutenant.” Tel’eck said respectfully. Drudoc seemed to trust her daughter would get to the school on time, and seemed willing if Fayth was to continue their discussion on insect population control.

“You are very welcome Tel’eck. I’m glad you could come.” Fayth turned back to the captain, more than willing to continue the conversation.

After a final farewell, Tel’eck took her leave heading out the door.

As they continued to talk Sharah began clearing the dishes. “Would you like something else to drink? Tea perhaps?”

Lt.jg Fayth, CSO

”..A warm herbal mint tea with Reman Cha’dal root would be welcome. The root is like a spicey vanilla extract and sweetens such teas without adding extra sugar or higher levels of caffeine.” She said.

Once the drink was served, Drudoc sipped it with obvious enjoyment. Obviously too savoring some memory or another for a moment. Setting the cup down then, she regarded Fayth. “..I must say Lieutenant you are a welcome breath of fresh air among the senior staff as of late. The last officer who took such a proactive role aboard ship life and the like eventually became the ship’s chief engineer and later my XO for some time before being promoted to the USS Memorial. Should I alert Commander Soval off perhaps some form of competition?” She said with a fun teasing tone.
