“Thank you for that tip about the walking time. I figured as much with a ship this big.” He added with a smile. “Speaking of the labs, I better check in with Lieutenant Fayth myself sometime today. But first, I need to unpack and put a few things away. Besides, I’ve been on a transport for a few days with not a lot of walking room and I could use a bit on my feet stretching my legs.”

Claude crossed to his side of the room and started to unpack his duffel. “What about yourself? Where are you from, besides Terra?”

He pointed to the replicator again. “With that down, you can grab a bite in the lounge - 17/18 Forward. Now,” he held up both hands, palms out, with a grin, “I know this won’t make sense, but the quickest way I’ve found is to head aft from here. That turbolift is further than the forward one from here, but it gets you there faster, but still plenty of walking time. I’m guessing the way the lift network is setup.”

Riley spun his stylus in his right hand. “I’m originally from St. Louis, Missouri, in North America. Haven’t actually been there for… a while actually.” He paused, seemingly surprised by that information. “My folks live in San Francisco now. Moved there when I started the Academy.”

He laughed again. “Got tired of only seeing me once or twice a year on university holidays, I guess.”

Claude was fumbling with something in his duffel while Matthew spoke. Finally extracting a parcel wrapped in a tunic. He laid it gently on the bed.
With a finger he pointed to himself, “Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, South of Quebec City. Near Lake Champlain. I was there visiting family just before my assignment here.”
“I hear that Saint Louis is famous for its beef ribs. I’m sure that is something you will be tweaking in the replicator.”

Riley gave a crooked half smile. “I’m more a fan of brisket, personally, but I’m also a lousy cook, so probably no tweaks or adjustments from me.”

He leaned his forearms on his knees, still playing with the stylus. “I’ve never made it up that way. Farthest north I’ve been was Chicago.” He laughed. “And not during the winter. I’m not the biggest fan of snow.”

He was quiet for a moment before continuing. “I mostly keep to myself; read a lot.” He gestured to the books and his PADD. “I don’t mind music as long as it’s not too loud. I hope you’ll find I’m a pretty easy guy to get along with,” he finished with a small grin.

“I believe I will be as well.” Claude replied, happy to have found a kindred soul. at least for now. “I enjoy reading as well. I’m currently re-reading a series that have had some very popular holo-series based off of it. Pre-WWIII Old Western crimefighting.”

He continued to put away more of the clothes in his duffel, this time civilian clothes which he carefully unfolded and put on hangers. “I’m hoping that I can find some of these inspired holo-series in the holodeck archives.”
