Late evening…

Hayley wandered slowly through her favorite landscape - a program designed by her brother, Jacob, for those times when she really needed to set aside her “professional face” and just be herself. The scene was something straight out of a fairy tale: a huge meadow of long grasses and wildflowers of all colors. A clear stream babbled its way across the field, it’s banks festooned with cattails and water hyacinths. Weeping Willow trees grew on a hill on one side of the stream and off in the other direction, in the distance, could be seen a herd of grazing wild horses. Small birds and butterflies flitted about and the breeze smelled of fresh water and wildflowers.

Hayley herself looked nothing like her usual, serious, hair tightly bound, immaculately uniformed self. Her black hair hung half loose, half in a braided crown with tendrils escaping everywhere to frame her pale face. She wore one of Jacob’s creations, made just for these occasions, a long, layered, gauzy gown in watery shades of blues and greens. The outfit only emphasized her slight figure and somewhat fey features. Someone who didn’t know her might mistake her for part of the program itself. An elf or fairy wandering the landscape.

She walked slowly, a soft smile on her face, trailing her hands through the long grasses and breathing in the lightly scented air…

The door to the holodeck opened. Charra stumbled in. Landing on the soft grass did enough to prevent the swearing she almost started. Instead, she looked around her self in awe, managing to do nothing more than stammer at the beauty surrounding her.

Ensign Charra Lana

Hayley startled at the sound of the doors opening and closing. She quickly turned toward the sound and was surprised to see the Ensign just standing there staring about herself at the scenery. She wasn’t even sure if Charra had seen her yet. Feeling a little self conscious she walked toward her. “Hello Ensign, welcome to my fairyland.” She smiled, not really upset at being disturbed, more just feeling self-conscious as she rarely let people see this side of her.

Charra jumped and turned. Trying not to stammer she took a deep breath. “Lt., hi. This is… beautiful..I’m sorry for bothering you.. “ she found herself having a harder time not stammering, so she simply closed her mouth. Still awe struck by it, she slowly began turning around to see more, not even realizing the circles she was turning, until she found her self so dizzy she had to stop. “Wow.”

“My brother has a gift for creating beauty, regardless of whether he is using a computer or a sewing machine. This program is his work, for that matter, so is my outfit. It’s his way of making sure his little sister relaxes and remembers to take some time for herself once in awhile. It makes me feel like I am wandering through a story book.” She paused and smiled. “You are welcome to make use of it. I added it to the Holodeck memory. It’s called JMFairyland12.” If Charra chose to look toward the herd of horses she would quickly realize they were actually unicorns. As they were standing there a couple of baby foxes ran passed, seemingly playing tag with each other.
