The waves subsided somewhat, but it left her head pounding and disoriented. From memory she pulled out her med kit and the dermal regenerator from it. She set the dermal regenerator and began moving it across her hand, healing the blisters and burn. She put the machine down, placed the heels of her feet on the chair, wrapped an arm around her knees, the other resting palm up on her other arm. She rested her forehead on her forearm. She took several more minutes to right herself and surf above the noise, and then sorting and sifting through her own emotions, tossing out the ones that were stopping her from being clear headed. Joseph had taught her how do that. It was always easier when he was near, his own mind clear, calm, and quiet. She listened, ‘felt,’ the clear, calm quiet of his mind somewhere on the ship and just listened. She sat there quietly, palm sore and delicate from the burns, head down and pounding, absently tugging at her hair against the pain, while the water and pasta boiled, and the sauce began to bubble as it simmered.

Joseph had made his way to Sharah’s quarters as quickly as he could. Their conversation earlier had left him slightly guilty feeling, and he was hoping Sharah would not hold his persistence against him. He took a deep breath arriving at her door. He pressed the chime calmly and waited.

Sharah lifted her head and smiled a little, “Come in.” The redesign of her quarters had been finished for a few weeks now. Ebony wood flooring and cherry wood accents, matching the wood she’d used to design Joseph’s chess set. Oak and white pine on the walls and ceiling. The colors and furniture was similar, but not exact, to the cabin on the gulf. The layout of course was slightly different, but when she returned every day it reminded her of what she was working towards. The life she wanted. This, the cabin, was where she loved being alive. The living area was directly in front of the door with the kitchen behind it and to the left. The work area, just a desk and chair, with the built in shelves, but smaller, to the right against the wall before leading to the bedroom. Her sketch of Joseph on the pier was hanging on the wall near the ‘kitchen’ and in her bedroom was the one of the light house. Her photos were next to her books. And on the coffee table next to her bonsai was her chess set, in the middle of a game.

She got up from where she was sitting at the table, an open medkit and a large box sitting atop. She moved into the kitchen, turning the heat off. She turned looking at him a moment before moving into his arms, and into her spot, just like she’d promised him. I love you, Imzadi.

Joseph stepped into Sharah’s quarters. His jaw nearly hit the floor as he observed the room around him. Memories of their coastal vacation flooded his mind. He shook his head in disbelief. “How long did this take to create?” He asked. As he turned to look at Sharah just in time to catch her as she moved into his arms. He felt her mind slip into her spot. He closed his eyes for a moment. ‘Thank you imzadi’ he thought, leaning down to kiss her. ‘I love you too.’

Sharah smiled, letting out a breath she was holding, glad that Joseph liked what she’d done. “About 3 weeks, but I wasn’t able to let them work every day.” Some because of other duties and some because she needed quiet on her days off, and others they were busy building the pieces. “When I told you earlier you can have your quarters designed anyway you want…” she waved her hand around the space. She kissed him back fiercely. ‘Now, we’re both home.’ She rested her head against his shoulder, her arms wrapped around his neck. She wanted to know how he’d been doing, what he thought of Ark Angel, she wanted to have dinner and finish that bottle of win, give him his Christmas present, ask if they were going to live together, take out the adjoining wall, finish their chess game, there was so much, now that he was here. But first she was still and quiet, to savor being in his arms again, but also out of worry. Ark Angel was beyond over whelming for her, and she knew with total certainty that Joseph was strong enough, but she worried what it would take for him to do so.

Joseph wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly. ‘Dear these are not my quarters though.’ He thought. Holding her in his arms. He could feel her anxieties subsiding for a moment. Relief flooded through him, as he was glad he was still able to be that buffer for her. Home is where the heart is, and Joseph’s heart belonged here, Joseph was home. He could feel there was so much Sharah wanted to do, ‘where would you like to start?’ He asked.
