Mazi closed the holodeck arch and dropped her robe on the sand. The beach was pristine with rocks jutting from the water out past the tide line. Gentle waves lapped on the shore and in the distance, dunes rose into the horizon line. This was the place she went to when she wanted to forget. Forget she was on a ship a million light years from her father and his family. Forget she was Andorian and had folks constantly looking at her differently than they did their own kind. And forget she had ignored missives to make her yearly Counseling appointment. She’d do it tomorrow while on shift, instead.

Walking down to the water line, she let her feet settle on the wet sand and sighed in total release as the water lapped over her feet and the warmth of the sea warmed her to the core.

Within minutes, she was swimming laps back and forth along the shoreline. Her blue bathing suit set off her skin beautifully and she closed her eyes as her arms stroked in powerful motion against the waves moving in to raise the tide line in the simulated alcove. High above, though unseen, she listened to the cry of seagulls. She loved the sound but the sight of them had been constantly distracting. So she had opted for their sounds but not the manifestation of the birds, themselves. It was comforting. She let her mind wander to various happenings on the ship. From tedious mechanical issues in the engineering bay, to how she was going to get Weir to recognize her as more than a peer. She liked him. Maybe, someday, she could get him to know that. Her mind continued to wander as she kept swimming.

The holoprogram was open, though she knew no one would ever come in. In all the places she had been stationed at or vacationed at, no one had ever joined the light blue skinned engineer in her programs. Now she left it open out of habit, not out of anticipation of company.

Mazhari Allendor
Engineer

Denooy had checked and double checked, Allendor had not shown up for her sesson and it had been rescheduled more than once. So after she made final notes on the file, Denooy asked the computer for Allendor’s location hearing that the hybrid engineer was on one of the holodecks and the program wasn’t locked she looked over the program’s theme and headed out of her office. Denooy stopped at her quarters and got a hat, that would cover her head but had holes to allow her antenni to move freely. She then headed for Allendor’s holodeck and walked through the archway.

The scene was very pretty, the sand and waves the sounds of sea gulls had her look up at the sky searching for the birds themselves but she figured out soon enough that it was only their calls she was hearing no birds in the skys to dive bomb her. Good. She walked along the beach watching the water until she spotted Allendor swimming. She knew better than to call out out right startling folks that were swimming was not nice. Denooy stood still and waited for a proper moment to speak up.

Another lap and suddenly Mazi’s antennas perked. Unsure what made them do it, she paused and righted herself. Arms waving back and forth in the water as her legs scissored to keep her upright, the young woman spotted the interloper and blinked. “So she found me,” she murmured to herself. A couple long strokes put her close enough to shore to be able to stand up. Coming out of the water, her one piece suit fitting her like it was specially made for her curves, she wiped the top sheen of water down her front and then wiped off her face and brushed the wet hair back behind her ears.

Taking a couple steps past the woman to grab her towel, she dried her face before turning to the woman and nodded. “Counselor. How can I help you? You don’t look dressed for a swim.” She knew she had missed an appointment. And thought she had only over worked her shift enough to be a few minutes late, she had merely decided to reschedule rather than be admonished for being late. She reached up to gently dry her antennae and top of her head before moving to wipe off her arms. The Counselor was truly pretty. It was strange to think things of someone of the same sex and species as her, but it came to mind. xi’Indrai seemed like someone comfortable in their skin. And in some ways that almost made Mazi want to hate her on that alone. She blinked and buried both thoughts while waiting for the response.

Denooy smiled up at the slightly taller woman, “No I didn’t want to swim today not without being invited at any rate. I wanted to check up on you, since you’ve missed and rescheduled a few times for our sessons.” Denooy said lightly, if she had any inkling of what had been going on in Allendor’s thoughts she would have blushed, and been flattered. As it was she had no idea that the other woman had been thinking. Andorians were not telepathic in nature, the Aenar, where but Denooy had never met any and she wasn’t prone to borrowing trouble. “I hope you will be up for our next appointment, I normally make crossiants but I wanted to ask if you might prefer something else instead while I am here?”

“I’ve been working,” was Mazi’s only excuse. She was poised for battle over the missed appointment, but it hadn’t happened. Instead, the woman was asking if she wanted croissants or something else. A small frown creased her brow as she realized everything she had planned on walking towards the woman was now moot and useless. “I like croissants. Thank you. Will it take long? I don’t see a reason to bother taking up your time if I am fine and my work is satisfactory.”

Pausing with the towel in her hands, she glanced at the water then back at Dinui. “You are welcome to swim any time. I mean,” she thought of the phrase the woman had used. “You are invited to swim whenever you want. And you are welcome to the program even if I’m not here. I mean, it’s just a beach, so not like anything personal is here that you need fear intruding on.” It occurred to her that she’d never invited anyone to the holo before. But then, no one had ever entered before, either. She imagined Dinui in an emerald bathing suit and moved past her, towel once more wiping water from her face to hide the widening of her eyes at the thought. “It’s just a program.” She moved back towards the water to let it lap over her feet once more.

Denooy watched and listened as Allendor spoke and walked around, “It is still a good idea to have a sesson even if feel fine as you say.” she paused and added lightly, “I love swimming thank you for the invitation.” she meant it. Denooy adored swimming as much as she enjoyed ice skating and other sports too. Denooy paused and walked over to the water’s edge close but not too close to Allendor, “I will let you enjoy your time off and see you at your next scheduled appointment, if you want company for your next swim let me know so I can be properly dressed.” she offered with a smile to the taller woman and then she turned to head out again.

She didn’t look over her shoulder, but found herself calling out. “I’ll be here tomorrow after our appointment. In case you wanted to come in.” She didn’t add the invitation. It seemed… odd … somehow. As if something more formal would ruin the coming event of not swimming alone. She let the water lap over her feet as she lapsed once more into silence to contemplate the coming dread of the meeting.
