The holo deck interior was not currently displaying it’s standard yellow and black grid form, it was a large kitchen, with several cooking tables and stoves and ovens inlaid into each table. Each table was set up for the first cooking lesson. Bread though the same recipe could be altered easily to turn into buttery biscuits, or even pizza crust.

The room was spacious and had several open raised windows along the upper walls. So there would be no one passing out from over exposure to heat, herself included. That was an experiance she was not keen on repeating for a long time.

It would take a few lessons to make the exchange to make pastries. If folks continued to show interest and wanting to branch out she have several recipes she had ready to teach and she would make room for requests to add for additional classes if it came to it. Denooy was dressed in atypical chef shirt, with a modified hair net so her anteni were not affected by it, as it covered her hair. she also had an apron over the chef shirt.

She wasn’t certain how many would actually show up but she was looking forward to this experiance as it would allow for folks to one relax and learn something new and another chance to get to know folks on a more personnal level.

O O C as the title says this is an open thread anyone is welcome join in. Reminder that I am using Speech to text and it gets some character names wrong either for my mispronouncing or it just is not recognized.

Serenity walked in her long hair tied back as braded she was whereing a sailor moon T-shirt and a pair of blue jeanes. ” is there still room to sign up for the class” she asked absent mindedly playing with her braslet. ” I just heard about the class a few minutes ago, I was hopping there would be room if not do you know when the next one will be Cooking sounds fun I would love to give it a try” she said happly.
Ensign Serenity

Denooy nodded her head gently, “There is still room yes, you will want to go to the closet at the back and get a shirt and apron to go over your clothes the truth about cooking when learning it is messy, so you want to protect your clothes. There are hair nets on the shelf above the shirts and aprons make sure tuck your braid into it so no hair gets into your food while cooking.”

“Thank you, Lieutenant Dinui, xi’Indrai I’ll be back” Serenity said happily. She practically skipped to the closest the counselor mentioned. She quickly got ready for class and headed back to the other.

Sharah left a note letting Joseph know where she was going and who with. She was sure after the last time she burned herself, the idea of her cooking probably worried him, but Dinui would be there. They were going to see if this helped and could be part of her regulary therapy techniques. Sharah told him to come if he was up to it. She half hoped he would: they loved cooking togther, and half hoped he wouldn’t. Lately his job had been more demanding than normal and she knew he needed to quiet down time to recharge.

She entered the holodeck and walked over to the counselor. “Hi Dinui.” Sharah’s black long curly hair was put back into a French braid and she was wearing comfortable but not loose clothing. “How are you doing?” Sharah was excited for the cooking, but was really hoping Dinui gave her a table to herself. The ‘noise’ was bad enough without someone next to her stressing over getting a recipe right. Of course next to her or not she was going to hear it all anyway. She was fidgeting with her hands. She was more nervous than…oh no…it was some of the other people.

Denooy smiled as Shara, “Ah you did make it after all, I was just telling Serenity where to find a chef shirt and apron, and yu will need a hair net too, I figure we can talk for a few minutes to give others a chance to arrive and if no one else shows up we can get started.”

Noticing the Lieutenant now standing next to Dinui xi’Indrai. “Hi Lieutenant, I’m Serenity it’s nice to meet you” she said with a smile.
Ensign Luna

Sharah smiled slightly, “Hello Ensign, excuse me.” She nodded to Dinui and then headed to the back cabinet. The hair net was problematic. Sharah’s curls went everywhere and simply would not be contained by the net. She moved to the far end of the room and worked at getting her hair into a french braid her hair and then was able to get it all into the net. She returned with hat and apron in place.

Denooy nodded at Shara and Serenity, “While we wait and see if anyone else is joining the class, do you have any questions?” she knew well Shara’s issues, with long hair and hair net, though her anteni were her main issue with getting tangled. Still Shara had managed to sort it out without requesting assistance.

O O C if no one else joins after next few tags we’ll continue as best we can hope you have fun writing this with me.

Serenity thought for a moment. Then smiled “Just one is it really possible to burn water?” she asked happily.
Ensign Serenity

Dinui blinked at Serenity a moment and shook her head, “When we get to soups and stews I will show you how to avoid that, I promise.” she had a whole lesson planned on avoiding trouble while cooking with hot liquids, but today it was bread. Simple and easy to start off with.

Hayley entered the room and made her way over the the group of officers. “Apologies for my lateness Counselor, I got tied up in Sickbay. You would not believe the things toddlers choose to stick up their noses!” She paused and grinned mischievously, ” Don’t worry, I made sure to wash up before coming.”

Jr. Lt. Hayley Marshall CMO

Sharah shook her head. She didn’t have any questions. She and Dinui both knew why she was there. She’d always wanted to learn to cook, but she was there for control and distraction. It didn’t matter if her dis came out right unless it was messed up because of her condition. Sharah smiled at Hayley. If Joseph didn’t come she could probably pair with Hayley. Nothing like working side by side with your doctor. Sharah laughed. “You know I’m really glad we didn’t have those kinds of emergencies on Challenger. There was that little girl with the broken leg though. She was so ANGRY” And there was an edge to her voice of shared emotion carried still from the memory and Sharah shook her head. She’d been so sick then that sometimes she even had trouble with the memories too. “Sorry.” she said to both Dinui and Hayley. They were both aware so she didn’t need to explain.
Lt jg Fayth, CSO

“Hayley don’t worry about it we haven’t started yet, still waiting for one more to show up, as for children and shoving things up their noses I still prefer that to finding things stuck in their ears.” she motioned to the back, “If you want to join us in cooking there’s chef shirts, aprons and hair nets in the back, if you are here to just taste test you can take a seat anywhere on the sides.” Dinui said with a smile, she gave a nod to Sharah she knew and understood and felt there was no reason to comment further.

Hayley also gave Sharah a nod and sympathetic smile before moving to the back of the room to prepare. She had made sure to contain her hair ahead of time so it was not too much of a struggle to get it all into the net. She donned a chef’s shirt and apron, washed her hand again and headed back to the group.

Dinui looked at the small group with a smile, “Well I guess this is us for today. Take a table with stove, oven and I will show you the easiest bread recipe that anyone can learn and have a lovely loaf of bread at the end. This repice can be altered to make baggets among other styles but right now it is just basic loaf bread.”

She walked around to each table and helped place out the flour, yeast, water, butter, (or alternative in case of dairy allergies), “The toughest part is the waiting, but it is worth it.”

Sharah moved to a table in the far corner, away from the others. Like she’d told Joseph once, physical distance didn’t really make a difference, but sometimes the illusion helped. She placed everything out neatly, taking care with it. The attention to organization and detail helped to keep her focused.

Serenity smiled and found a table quickly. She set the ingredients out almost half haphazardly over the work space. “ This will be so much fun” she practically squeeked.
Ensign Serenity

After the water and yeast activated, Dinui showed the amount of flour, melted butter, salt, sugar to add in and mixed it until it formed a ball of dough, placing it in the mixing she had lightly brushed butter against the side and placed a plate over the top of it. “Now we let it rise for two hours, after that we will roll it out and you get to decided if you want it to go into a loaf pan or cook from your base shape on a flat sheet.” Dinui said as she looked at the ladies in the room.

Dinui xi’Indrai, Chief Counselor

Serenity did as Dinui Xi’lndrai instructed. Soon she had a ball of Dough. ” So I could shape it like cat” She asked curiously.
Ensign Serenity

As ensign Logan walks into the kitchen and everything smells food and she says “Well well I smell food. Who’s been cooking. Count me in. I’m in the mood for cooking and nothing else. I can cook something if anyone wants me to cook them something.” As she said walking in

Ensign ashley Logan

Dinui blinked at Serenity a moment and nodded slightly, “You can try but it might not be exactly what you expect after its cooked.”

When Ensign Logan entered she smiled, “We are making bread today, there’s aprons and chef shirts and hair nets in the back. Help yourself and pick a table.” Dinui said softly.

Dinui xi’Indrai Chief Counselor

As the ensign looked at the counselor after she said that the ensign says “thank you counselor I will do so. But mind you. I don’t have long hair. If you remember in Starfleet history with Ezri Dax. She didnt have long hair. So I’ll go ahead and get a hat, apron and a shirt.” As she mentioned about Ezri Dax and that the ensign only has short hair.

“Short hair can still fall out into your cooking and so that is why I am insisting on the hair nets for us. I have one as well so, there is no reason to not use it.” Dinui said gently yet firmly, there was nothing that ruined a meal faster than finding someone’s hair in it. Clean or not it was the principal of it. No hair net no cooking food.

Sharah’s hands were covered in sticky dough, folding and kneading the dough over and over: probably too much, but she was having fun. And it kept her hands busy but her mind free to surf above the noise.

As soon as the ensign got to the table that she wanted she then got into the dough herself. While she gets into the dough, she knew she was going to get her hands sticky and she would just keep working until she is completely covered in dough while she was making it.

Ensign Logan

Dinui chuckled softly, “To avoid getting too covered in the dough as you work with it, remember to lightly brush your hands with a bit of oil a very small amount goes a long way so you don’t need much.” Though some just had more fun with it and it wouldn’t really hurt anyone to get covered in dough, it was just a matter of washing hands again between the next step.
