Side Sim- Deck 27: Gavin Stacey's Quarters

Posted Jan. 3, 2022, 8:30 p.m. by Ensign Gavin Stacey (Medical Officer) (Ray Branch)

“No…no, Dad, you’re not listening!” Gavin exclaimed. The new officer sat up from his chair and paced the floor, hoping to calm himself down. This, however, riled himself up even more. His own father still couldn’t come to terms with his career choice and it was still unsettling. Gavin knew his father didn’t like that he chose medicine, and he hadn’t let him live that choice down. Every single chance he gets, Gavin’s father lets him know about all of the opportunities joining the security division would open up. Ensign Stacey momentarily stopped pacing in front of his computer and looked at the screen.

“How can you expect me to just allow you to try every aspect of my life?” Gavin asked, very annoyed. “I can’t believe you even contacted the Admiral to try and change my mind, weeks after I graduated the academy,” The Ensign stated, “Weeks!” He continued to pace for a few more minutes, cracked his knuckles out of frustration, and returned to the chair. This time only his mother was on the screen.

“Listen, Gav,” His mother began to say, “Your father may be a very outspoken man, but he does care about you.” She said, quickly glancing off to the side, assumably watching her husband leaving their room. “He just wants the best for you.” His mother saying that only made him feel angrier. Truth be told, Gavin was confusing anger with feelings of disappointment and slight annoyance. No matter what he did, his father never approved.

“Mom, I know he cares,” Gavin replied with a roll of his eyes. “But he never approved of my choices; when I told him I was joining Starfleet to become a Doctor, he was in denial… for Jesus sake!” Gavin placed his head in his hands, sighed, then rubbed his eyes. “He did his time in the fleet, and chose to leave; he can’t live his life through me”. After a few minutes of silence, he looked up. “Listen, It’s been an exhausting day and I need some rest,” Gavin said as he stood up from his chair. “I’ll call you in a few days, love you, Mom.” He said, then added, “Tell Dad I love him too”.

With that said, Gavin closed the comms and turned off his PC. He wasn’t due to report in for another 12 hours, and he needed to sleep off his anger.
