A moment of shimmer, the slight feeling of nausea that always seemed to accompany being transported, and Katie was in the Biology Lab. There were a number of officers working over the blob thing and after a moment, Katie realized that she had never been in this part of the ship before. While trying to stay out of the way, she positioned herself to where she could see the thing.

“These forcefield emitters are from the other ship and, without being too tacky about it, may not be up to our standards,” she said. “They may be doing the job now but if our… guest recovers a bit, they may not hold. I would recommend a different containment system as soon as we can.”

The blob seemed to have recovered from the experience of transport. It once again made an attempt to bounce around the 22nd century forcefield box it was contained in. It did this bounce at its more sluggish rate still not the lightening fast movements that Katie had seen earlier, nor was it phasing through things. But the fields did flare in places and if the status readouts on the 22nd century panels were checked they did show a small drop in coherency, they probably would be wise to do as Katie said ASAP, they did not want this thing to get loose on the Ark Angel!

Gavin was able to confirm Hobbes’s statement by checking the computer. “Computer, erect a level 10 forcefield around the current containment and run an assessment on if that would hold the blob once the original fields fail.” The Doctor stated. With the science chief now back aboard, Ensign Stacey could take a step back and focus on establishing a biological baseline for this creature.

The doctor retrieved his medical tricorder and targeted it at the blob, hoping to perform a more in-depth scan this time.

“Good thinking, doctor,” V’alura who materialized alongside En. Hobbes, said warmly to Stacey before taking up her post at the science console. She saw that her team had managed to gather quite a bit of data on the blobs from a partial sample and quickly skimmed the report to bring herself up to date on what her science team has uncovered.

With a beep to comply another stronger forcefield was erected around the 22nd century emitters. It seems Stacey acted just in time too, as a moment or so later the blob seemed to get a bit of more energy back and with bouncing around erratically broke through the 22nd century fields into the slightly larger Angel one. The older emitters were still usable but their energy cells would need to be replaced later. Scan results of the 22nd century field failure showed that while the blob was in this more energetic state it was able to make minute absorptions of the field and much like a ship’s shielding array would absorb energy fire slowly be drained, until they failed/overloaded.

The blob for a few seconds seemed ‘confused’ for lack of a better term and felt around with an extended piece of itself to the new field containing it now. Again then it tried to bounce around, but as scans showed the more advanced field and particle emissions of the Angel’s containment system were much better and cohesive not to mention better in energy recharge to basically be unaffected by its attempts of escape so far. With a last effort that seemed to be like a fist slamming into its cage even then the field there only dropped .2% for a few seconds before recharging back to normal. Defeated the now again exhausted blob slumped back to the middle of the field and lay still.

Stacey’s scans were much like those of the invisible ooze sample she had gotten before where the two twins had appeared. In this case though the blob did not seem to have absorbed any kind of mental or physical energy patterns to replicate an appearance like the twins had been. The blob was also far more complex biologically and such then the small sample before, and based on its actions so far it did on some level seem semi-intelligent or such to its environment and able to react to changes.

“Fascinating,” V’alura murmured as she studied the creature move about its new containment. It wasn’t some mindless creature, it had some level of intelligence. But just how intelligent? She continued her study of the previously gathered data and came to the same startling conclusion as her scientists. “Goodness gracious! Am I reading this right or is there a very real possibility that these creatures are apart of a larger living organism that spans this entire galaxy and exists across multiple points of time and space. If not then somebody pinch me because I must be dreaming.”

Gavin gave a mishevious grin at the thought of pinching the CSO, but didn’t act on it. “That’s what we gathered as well, Lieutenant.” The Doctor said. Ensign Stacey wasn’t sure they had enough time to figure out the intelligence level of these blobs, nor did he think they acted on anything more than instinct.

And if this organism feeds off technology and power then that could explain their recording of the Synthesis’ distress call. It would also explain all the missing ships and colonies. It could be that each were displaced across time and space or else destroyed when their power systems failed because of the absorption. V’alura looked up from the console, her expression determined.

“First, we must ensure that our power sources are protected. If there are any more of these blobs on the AA then they would be drawn to our main power sources. We’ll need to either confirm their presence there and capture or prevent them from accessing them at all. It seems our force fields are capable for that. Second, we shall continue to study this specimen and any others we capture.

“I will head to the bridge and report our findings to the captain.” She finished.

Lt JG Belmont, CSO

“Has anyone mentioned this to our Chief Engineer?” Doctor Stacey asked once the CSO left, ” If these blobs are attracted to our power sources, then they’ll want to secure the warp and computer cores.” There wasn’t much that Gavin could do to assist in that department, after all he was a Doctor not an Engineer.
