“Has anyone mentioned this to our Chief Engineer?” Doctor Stacey asked once the CSO left, ” If these blobs are attracted to our power sources, then they’ll want to secure the warp and computer cores.” There wasn’t much that Gavin could do to assist in that department, after all he was a Doctor not an Engineer.

“Good idea,” Demil said. “I can head down there and make sure they’re secured and clear of organisms.”

“Perhaps I should go as well,” Katie said. “I am one of the engineers and I have some small experience finding these… whatever they are… in the engineering spaces on the other ship.”

Katie tapped her communicator. “Hobbes to Miz’uki. I’m heading to Engineering on Ark Angel with one of the science officers to double check for the green blob organisms in our warp cores. There appears to be evidence these creatures are attracted to and possibly feed on energy sources. Hobbes out.”

OOC: Just a reminder for Katie’s player dont forget to cross post your comm call to where that person is in the future or make a new thread doing so, I’ve since cross posted your comm call, but if kirt replies he should then also reply here, and in turn any further reply by you also go here and there :)

“And now the Chief Engineer has been notified,” Katie said. She glanced at the force-field emitters they had used to trap the blob on Synthesis. “We still need to return their force field emitters to them. As I recall, there is at least one of them over there.”

“If you spot Ashley, please tell her to get her butt up here.” Gavin laughed. With all of the excitement going on, the Doctor nearly forgot the security officer he was with earlier. It seemed to him that Ashley was going through some sort of personal issues, and Gavin was slightly worried about her. Ensign Stacey turned his attention back to the energy feeding blob.

“If that thing likes to feed off energy sources, maybe we should try making our ship and systems less tasty for em.” Doctor Stacey suggested, “But the issue is whether or not we can found out what it dislikes before it eats all of our energy reserves.”

Given they now had a blob to experiment on testing ideas to ‘sour the milk’ as one older engineer over 30 years ago once said could be viable. But there was also the moral complication that perhaps was arising, that being just how smart were this/these things? Where did they draw the line on experimenting or changing things to the natural habitat which they seemed to be literally inside of and possibly unable to escape? Was there a means to communicate or something more? So many questions so few answers.

Katie glanced at the Trill science officer. “Whenever you’re ready let’s head over to Engineering.”

Gavin watched the pair leave the Bio lab, then returned his focus to the blob. With the additional data he retrieved, the Doctor was able to hypothesize that the blob was able to consume organic energy as well, which he assumed could be living beings.

Ensign Stacey wasn’t exactly sure where he’d begin investigating the intelligence level of this being. In humanoids, a standard of showing someone an option and repeating the name would normally suffice. “Looks like it’s just you and me, mister or madame blob.” The Doctor said as he pondered a strategy.
