“Hmmmm, well I’m not exactly sure how much I could tell you on its intelligence levels, ma’am.” Doctor Stacey replied. Gavin continued to stare down the blob for a few more moments before turning to the Counselor. “This thing knows pain, defeat, and I might assume self awareness to a point, but it hasn’t tried to communicate with us during its stay in the forcefield.” Doctor Stacey tapped the table a few tips trying to concentrate in thought.

“I suppose you have a few tricks up your sleeve, Counselor?” Gavin asked once he couldn’t come up with an idea.

Suddenly a ship wide Red Alert sounded across the ship, and Drudoc’s voice came over the comms, =/\= All hands red alert, battle stations! Any crew currently studying our ‘blob’ are to remain on station and continue this effort, unless ordered otherwise..=/\= She said

Marlaa startled slightly at the klaxon sound. When the Captain’s voice died down, she laughed and looked at the doctor. “Well that want up my sleeve. But if it reveals anything of use, I’m happy to take the credit.”

Tapping the comm, Marlaa sent a message to the bridge. =^=Biolab to bridge… Marlaa here. Can we all what’s going on so we know what to prepare for?=^=

Just then the ship shuddered as the muted feeling of weapon strikes hit the ship. A moment later a return message came in text only, =/\= Two late 23rd century Romulan warbirds. Attempting to keep them out of the system to avoid the Synthesis. =/\= it read.

She glanced at Stacey while waiting for the reply. “If the entity just initiated contact, then perhaps our guests might respond. But if the entity is aggravated and perhaps violent, we’d need to be prepared for far worse reactions.” She explained her reasoning for asking because it didn’t occur to her that anyone else might wonder the same thing.

V’alura ran into the lab like a bat out of hell and came to a skidding halt beside Marlaa and Dr. Stacy. “Everyone ready yourselves! A couple of Romulan Warbirds who once vanished in this system much like the Synthesis did are now on their way and I don’t think they’ll be inclined to listen to us.” V’alura strode up to the barrier containing their blob, and began to pace around around. She made gestures while she talked, “Dr. Stacey. Those two twin girls you encountered were actually from a horror movie in the 1980’s called The Shining. These blobs, and by proxy, the larger entity we now find ourselves in- Which, we should really have a name for it. And for these blob things. But not right now.

“What we do know is that these creatures can absorb data! Or possibly absorb memories from living things. Or both! So what if we feed it a data storage device and on that device we explain who we are, what our mission is and ask it to do something to prove it understands what we said. Like asking it to take on a particular shape.” V’alura suddenly darted to the side, towards a console and began to work on the data file they would present to the blob.

Lt JG Belmont, CSO

Given what everyone had seem piecing together this fact did seem to make some sense, by this idea then, it could be presumed that the residue that Stacey had picked up was from a blob that had yet escaped detection on the Ark Angel! Where it was was anyone’s guess at present. But it also meant or implied that the blob in question had at one point interacted with either someone who had watched this old Earth movie, or it had absorbed data of some kind containing it. Given these organisms could operate anywhere, place or any time probably meant something but for now they had to focus. Belmont’s idea though was certainly worth a try. The only question was how would they frame their offering of intent?

GM CockRoach

“Genius idea, Lieutenant!” Doctor Stacey exclaimed. Seeing this as a learning experience, Gavin walked up to near where the CSO was standing and watched as she compiled the data file. Ensign Stacey was ever so curious on how the blob was able to process data, but given the warbirds, Gavin wasn’t sure he’d get to find out.

“Now what’s our plan if the blob decides to act out the data we give it?” The Doc asked, wondering if there was a quick plan b.
