Just as NE Johnson had finished standing back up, the blob seemed to react to his words. Still facing Stacey the blob formed 8 more tendrils (10 in total now!) and began alternating in its rapid strikes on different or combined areas of the field. The computer again beeped this time in some alarm as there were marked drops in the field’s integrity. There was also evidence that the blob was attempting to find ways to directly absorb the field’s energy output inside the field, which if successful could allow it to escape. It seems their ‘guest’ was trying to find the limits of its prison’s hold.

”..Speaking of getting feisty..” Johnson commented backing away from the field area he went back to work.

“I don’t think it really cares for me much,” Doctor Stacey said as he took a few steps back from the containment field. Gavin could hypothesize that the blob was either able to understand the NE, or that it realized it was draining the field’s power each time it touched the forcefield.

It might occur to the group working on the blob problem, to try to find a way to directly communicate with it, and allow it a way to reply. It clearly could absorb digital information and use it to open physical things. By that reasoning it should be a fair bet it could probably if not understand directly what they were saying at least imply a sense of understanding from the tone and words they used by harmonics.

Further if this all held true to a single blob like this, then the massive nebula they were in by all accounts was itself a blob just one spanning over 4 some light years around, and having the clear ability to not only transcend the laws of location, time, and realities as was given, but also physics and the like. This meant that at some point of its growth these smaller blobs could do the same, and while separate were equally a part of the whole organism at the same time. With this in mind they could also try to look at how the individual blobs were still connected to the larger one outside and that they were currently within.

“We know that if we give it a data chip, it’ll understand what’s written on it,” Gavin stated, keeping a distance from the forcefield, “So, we can assume it knows how to communicate more intelligently.” The Doctor said. Ensign Stacey quickly searched through his PaDD, and turned it to the others. “Do you think something like this could work?” He asked, pointing to the strategy that the EMH used on Voyager to communicate to the nomadic species, when their ship was stuck in a void. They would probably need to configure a few tricorders to train the creature, but it was a possibility.

V’alura watched the readings as the blob absorbed the chip and solved her puzzle. Then braced herself for another round of shakes and rumbles. She hadn’t noticed it yet, but her right hand began to tremble and shake, enough to be noticeable by the others around her. “It’s a good idea,” She said to Stacey, before taking his place in front of the blob’s containment, “But I want to try something first.” She had noticed the way the blob reacted after hearing Johnson. . . what if? V’alura stood before the stasis field, “I think you can understand us. . . and if so. . .

The blob’s consecutive strikes on the containment field paused for a moment, another series of bubbles ‘burped’ from the blob’s body as it seemed to regard Valura.

“We mean no harm to you, but you have the power to harm us. Why, I think you could melt my skin and flesh down to the bone in seconds.” She laughed, but it was a fearful laugh, “Like an inquisitive child we stumbled into to, well, you, and started causing a ruckus. I’m sorry if I scared you during our little game of chase. We didn’t understand what you were then, but we understand you better now. We’re here because the ship you were on sent out a distress signal. They were in danger so we came, but I think the danger was you. When you eat our power sources you put us in danger and potentially threaten our lives. We don’t want to hurt you, nor do we want to have to defend ourselves against you.

There was another shudder, this time as the Ark Angel was hit by another series of hits from the combat outside the ship.

“If you can understand me. . . please, lower your tendrils. Let us work together, instead of against each other.” It was an honest plea full of genuine emotion. V’alura was an actress for many years before enlisting. She knew how to put her heart on her sleeve and light it up plain as day. Acting was more than saying your lines at the right moment with the right expression, to act was to express oneself to their fullest. She hoped the blob would understand, if not her words, then her heart.

There was another pause as the blob still held its 10 tendrils at the ready as if to strike the field again, then nine of the tendrils seemed to get sucked back into the body of the blob, and the single remaining tendril grew to a slightly larger and thicker size. There was a ripple through the blob’s body and suddenly within the field was a small 2 inch tall male figure, it seemed human and dressed in something like a early 1800s era cowboy garb. The figure wore all the usual attire for a cowboy of that time period including a revolver of some sort. The larger tendril seemed to be guiding the movements of the cowboy in the field who was currently pacing back and forth as if watching something off in the distance.

Stacey would be struck that this mirrored his earlier interaction with the two twin girls’ from the ancient Earth movie The Shining. As they all watched the cowboy seemed to point at something, then spoke! “..You act like those pretty ladies in town, all dressed up, fluffing out their chests, and trying to lure in men like me!” the small cowboy said.

“Goodness gracious!” V’alura gasped, staring in awe at the little cowboy being puppet’ed by the blob. This must be drawn from another movie of some sorts, a scene that reflected what the blob felt. She glanced towards Stacy and Marlaa, wondering what they thought about all this. This scene the blob choose. . . it must be purposeful. Pretty ladies. . . dressed up. . . luring in men like him. . . V’alura turned towards her team, deep in thought. Could it be that the blobs were attracted towards large energy sources like the Ark Angel and the Synthesis? Or was the blob accusing them of purposefully trying to attract it’s attention? Personally, she leaned towards the former than the latter. She felt they shouldn’t take what the blob says too literally. “Thoughts?” She asked the others.
