“Where, in Heaven’s name, is it going?” Katie said out loud as she stood in the damaged turbolift looking up through the open ceiling hatch. “There aren’t any major power sources up there. What is up there?”
She glanced at Demil.
Katie tapped her communicator.
^Hobbes to the Bridge. We have a huge blob creature going up the turbolift shaft that may be heading for your location. I recommend that you seal off the turbolift shaft with a forcefield.^

Another shudder passed through the ship from the combat outside going on, =/\= Internal scans show that blob thing is making for the third arboretum on deck 38, we are attempting to isolate it by forcefields, but it seems to have an ability to absorb their output and phase through it.. =/\= NE Mitch said over the comms. There was a pause before Mitch again spoke =/\= Captain is saying you are to pursue and attempt to contain it or failing that space it out an air lock =/\= He said.

“Understood,” Demil said, and started after it, running into the nearest turbolift not occupied by the blob and ordering it to deck 38.

As Demil and Katie got up onto Deck 38 they saw the blob had moved down the corridor and was currently 200 feet down the way and slithering its way into Arboretum 3 on the deck.

“Why in heaven’s name do we have an Arboretum?”
“Many ships in the fleet have ‘special features’,” Katie said as they ran after the blob. “I did a training cruise on a ship that had a dolphin pool. I never understood why they had that one either.”
The creature disappeared into the Arboretum and once they got to the doorway, Katie paused and held out her hand.
“I think we should proceed with caution,” Katie said.
Demil nodded in agreement.
The Arboretum was an unusually large room that looked much like some of the parks near the Academy on Earth. There was a wide variety of trees and grass on either side of a path that disappeared among the plants. “A bigger question for me at least than why we have an arboretum is why is this blob thing interested in it.”

“It has proven attracted by energy sources. Photosynthesis is essentially energy production,” Demil noted. “Or perhaps it can sense that this room is filled with various lifeforms? Either way we should get it out of here. We don’t know how it could affect the plants or vice versa.”
