Mar had been watching the show with great intent. As they all paused in the conversational exchange, she squatted down and got to the character’s level. “We are a presence inside you that hurts. For that, we are truly sorry. If you can help us get out of here, you wouldn’t be hurting anymore. You’d feel better. And we can set a barrier so that no one else hurts you by accident.” She was trying to wrack her brain around some movie, book or Holo program that could be used for reference of what they hoped to achieve. But nothing was coming to mind.

The Ferengi regarded Mar, “..Hurt? No pain? No hurting? Only headache in communication from you not bartering a deal! You want something we got? Then you give something for it!” It said the Ferengi pupated by the blob gain a wide sharp toothy grin.

“It looks like they’ve been trying to communicate with us all along.” Doctor Stacey stated quietly, slightly unsettled that it was able to portray a Ferengi so accurately. Frankly, Gavin wasn’t sure they wanted anything from the blob besides leaving. He thought that would at least be a barter if they promised to leave the blob alone.

“What would you give us for your release?” The doctor asked, hoping to turn the tables.

Dr. Stacey

The blob paused again digesting this information. The Ferengi then split with another tendril coming out of its torso, the smaller tendril expanded flashing through several different forms of things. Over the next two minutes, a wide variety of static shapes formed, some looked like books, others looked like different people both known or otherwise, others looked like ships known or otherwise, still more looked like shapes of food or the like. After another moment of repeating this the smaller tendril slurped back into the Fernegi puppet and it grinned toothily at the group again, “..What’cha want?” it said.

V’alura carefully considered everything said by the blob’s Ferengi representative and the questions of her officers. In truth, they were not the ones in power here. It was the blob and the nebula they drifted within. This blob was willing to broker a deal but she doubted it would take anything less than the better end of a deal. Ferengi had that reputation and she was certain the blob knew that. V’alura stepped forward, in character, with a mask in place. She wore a calm, and curious expression, her posture relaxed, while still standing straight.

“Those are certainly fine wares,” She said, playing acting along with the Ferengi puppet. V’alura played the part of a customer, “Each valuable in their own way, tempting offers hard to pass upon. . .” She sighed, but not too dramatically, but soft and laden with concern. “If only it was what we truly needed.” V’alura shook her head, her expression pained. “Though we seek knowledge of all kinds, we have far more pressing needs that must be met. What will knowledge do for us when it is security that we need most.”

V’alura turned away, but not so far that the blob could no longer “see” her face. “What we need is a means to open communication with the entity of this nebula. If we only had that. . . we would pay as much as we could for such a valued line of communication.” She turned back a sad, and mournful expression upon her face, “I’m sorry we can’t accept your wares, we will have to find someone else. . .”

=/\= “Lis to Stacey,” Demil’s panicked voice came over the comm. “How do we neutralize the SorQeH neurotoxin?”=/\=

(SorQeH is a tree which produced a neurotoxin which in small doses could be used medically to naturally cure various low grade poisons when processed by the ship’s medical staff. However, in larger doses it was known to be toxic to some life forms with higher intelligence ratings, producing a sort of ‘pyscho/rage’ effect. In earlier days of Klingon culture this toxin was used by the Klingons to produce such effects in their warriors during larger battles.)
