The blob paused again digesting this information. The Ferengi then split with another tendril coming out of its torso, the smaller tendril expanded flashing through several different forms of things. Over the next two minutes, a wide variety of static shapes formed, some looked like books, others looked like different people both known or otherwise, others looked like ships known or otherwise, still more looked like shapes of food or the like. After another moment of repeating this the smaller tendril slurped back into the Fernegi puppet and it grinned toothily at the group again, “..What’cha want?” it said.

V’alura carefully considered everything said by the blob’s Ferengi representative and the questions of her officers. In truth, they were not the ones in power here. It was the blob and the nebula they drifted within. This blob was willing to broker a deal but she doubted it would take anything less than the better end of a deal. Ferengi had that reputation and she was certain the blob knew that. V’alura stepped forward, in character, with a mask in place. She wore a calm, and curious expression, her posture relaxed, while still standing straight.

“Those are certainly fine wares,” She said, playing acting along with the Ferengi puppet. V’alura played the part of a customer, “Each valuable in their own way, tempting offers hard to pass upon. . .” She sighed, but not too dramatically, but soft and laden with concern. “If only it was what we truly needed.” V’alura shook her head, her expression pained. “Though we seek knowledge of all kinds, we have far more pressing needs that must be met. What will knowledge do for us when it is security that we need most.”

”..Ahh so you what security!” The Fernegi puppet said, this time another tendril shifted, and a startling array of known and unknown like designs shifted through it over the next three minutes. It might occur to Valura that they were running into a miscommunication of intent here. On one hand they had started saying they wanted to trade for the Synthesis, then they asked what the organism wanted for its freedom, then they asked other things. The blob though clearly intelligent at this size was probably only a small fraction of understanding that the greater blob outside making up the 4 some light year ‘nebula’ could do.

V’alura turned away, but not so far that the blob could no longer “see” her face. “What we need is a means to open communication with the entity of this nebula. If we only had that. . . we would pay as much as we could for such a valued line of communication.” She turned back a sad, and mournful expression upon her face, “I’m sorry we can’t accept your wares, we will have to find someone else. . .”

Lt JG Belmont, CSO

While the blob could not see her face, it clearly could still ‘hear’ her words and understand them. The rapid display of wares from the Ferengi vanished, “..You don’t want to trade now? Fine, you go look!” The Ferengi said.

Then the Ferengi puppet was reabsorbed into the main blob body. It shifted and shuffled about the containment field for a moment but did not seem to be doing too much.

Aw crap, they overwhelmed it. V’alura mentally chided herself for getting caught up in the moment and losing track of everything they asked of the blob. She was about to form a reply when a voice came over the comm line for Stacy.

=/\= “Lis to Stacey,” Demil’s panicked voice came over the comm. “How do we neutralize the SorQeH neurotoxin?”=/\=

(SorQeH is a tree which produced a neurotoxin which in small doses could be used medically to naturally cure various low grade poisons when processed by the ship’s medical staff. However, in larger doses it was known to be toxic to some life forms with higher intelligence ratings, producing a sort of ‘pyscho/rage’ effect. In earlier days of Klingon culture this toxin was used by the Klingons to produce such effects in their warriors during larger battles.)

Anyone in medical or science related fields would indeed recall such a hybrid plant in the Arboretum, it sounded like another much more dangerous blob was present on the ship and causing problems. To counter such a neurotoxin one would need to either inject the patient with a artificial anti-toxin made from the hybrid plant, or the patient would need to ingest a suitable counter amount of another plant in the Arboretum called ‘Va’Soque’ another earth-klingon hybrid medicinal plant that secreted in its roots and limbs a highly potent but general purpose anti-neural toxin.

Just as this would be replied too by someone to the calling Ensign, the blob in the containment field shifted again, another tendril extended and this time a male like alien they did not recognize, but one who stood in a regal like fashion and dressed in and outline of clothes that also seemed to match his bearing formed. This new puppet seemed to cross its arms about its chest and seemed to patiently wait for someone to take note of it and say something.

“What the.....” Ensign Stacey said to himself before pressing his comm badge. =^=Assuming you were able to quickly do this, you can create an anti-toxin using the plant.=^= The Doctor called out. Gavin slowly walked to the door as another idea popped into his head, =^= We should have another plant aboard called the Va’Soque, which would also work against the plant. =^= Doctor Stacey announced. Gavin momentarily took his attention from the blob in the room, and was now thinking of what chaos Demil was getting into.

=^= Where’s the emergency at?=^= He called out, on standby to run.

=/\=”Arboretum, Deck 38,=/\= Demil replied, breathing heavily. =/\= “One of the blob creatures got infected with the toxin.” =/\= Various crashing sounds could be heard in the background.

“Do you need to go and help?” V’alura asked Stacey, “We can hold the fort while you’re gone.” She said, motioning towards herself and Marlaa and the various other science officers mingling around. “And maybe take a few security officers with you,” She added, not liking the added sounds of chaos.

She turned back to the blob and noticed it’s new puppet, “Oh! Hello there. What can we do for you?”

Lt. JG Belmont, CSO

Marlaa had turned and missed the small man as well. Turning back at Belmont’s hello she smiled and squatted down to be closer to what could be considered eye contact with the blob.

As they awaited the small creature to react, she told her head curiously. “Forgive us, do you have a name? Or a designation?” She pointed to herself, “I’m Mar. This is Belmont.” She pointed to the CSO and smiled. Now that communication has been established, though it happened rather quickly, it dawned on her that polite societal traditions hadn’t been observed. It embarrassed her to realize she had forgotten the nicer and her cheeks colored slightly from the embarrassment.
