Ensign Johnathan Baptiste carried his duffel bag and PaDD onto the shuttle craft that would take him to his new assignment and home, the USS Ark Angel. He was excited, and forlorn apprehensive all at the same time. He was excited to be moving onto a new assignment and ship, but at the same time apprehensive as he was no longer a cadet; but a bonafide Ensign. He would be working with a new crew and command staff. Finally, he was forlorn, he had really enjoyed his time on the cadet ship USS Challenger, and especially his time with cadet, now ensign, P’Mala Dawes. He would have liked to spend more time with her, but as fates would have it he was off to a new chapter in his life. He decided he would use the transition time in the shuttle craft from the Challenger to the Ark Angel to review some of the important crew members on his PaDD, as well as the Ark Angels ship specifications. Best to try and be prepared as one could he thought to himself.

As his PaDD went over various names, the Counselor, Marlaa, oddly no last name, came up as a flagged officer he needed to see with during his check in on the ship. Medical was first, and after the counselor, he was given his department head as next in the line.

His birthing assignment would also be in the Boarding Orders.(*) There was also a map of the ship, broken into sections and floors, as well as reminders for password setting, accessing his personal files, and how to send messages and files from the ship to those he wanted to keep in touch with.

Finally, there was a letter of welcome from the Captain. While it would seem more like a form letter than a personal missive, it was still polite and well written. It might even make one wonder if the Captain had written it, or someone with a more fluent tongue.

((Your PaDD))
(*) My apologies, mixed up ship specs. Ensigns/Jr officers have their own room. No roommate. Adjusted post accordingly… Sorry .. Welcome aboard.

“We are on approach to the USS Ark Angel sir.” Replied the young NE that was flying the supply shuttle he was on. “Care to have a look at her before we dock?” Johnathan moved from the back where he had been napping to the cockpit and gazed upon the USS Ark Angel, he whistled “Some ship, huge in fact, what a beauty. What did the specs say crew of 900 with an additional 100 or so civilians. Three sickbay’s two on deck twelve on the port and starboard side with a smaller sickbay on deck 39. Well sounds like the medical crew has it’s hands full during emergencies, and I bet medical does a brisk business when in normal operating conditions.” He scanned his PaDD as the pilot of the shuttle took them into a landing in Shuttle Bay 4. Upon touch down, Johnathan got up and moved to the back, picked up his duffel, he turned to the young NE pilot “Thanks for the ride. It was pleasant, quiet and uneventful. Good luck in your endeavors.” With that he stepped down the ramp and onto the deck of the USS Ark Angel, his new home.

-Johnathan Baptiste, Medical

Just as he stepped out, two Ensigns murmured ‘scuse mes as the trotted up the ramp to grab crates and bags that had been stashed for the trip. His own crate of personal affects would be in his room within the hour, he’d learned from the onboarding packet.

A Lieutenant JG in medical colors glanced at him till he caught Johnathan’s eye, then smiled. “Baptiste, I take it? Welcome aboard. I’m Jeromy. I’m here to escort you to your quarters and answer any questions you have. You’re stuff, if you have any, will be in your quarters after they’ve off loaded. Anything else you need to grab before we head into the ship?” He’d tapped his PaDD a couple times while talking as if checking off a list as he spoke.

NE Jeromy Rhodes

Johnathan adjusted the straps of his duffle on his shoulder, looked at the NE Lieutenant and replied, “I believe protocol requires I present to the Officer of the Deck and request permission to come aboard first Lieutenant. Then it would be my pleasure to allow you to escort me to my quarters. Thank you for the welcome aboard and helping me.” With that Johnathan adjusted the strap to his duffel and waited for NE Rhodes to escort him over to the NE Lieutenant Proffitt.

OCC: I have started the post of going to both my quarters and reporting to sickbay. I think what I wrote will help tie the two together.

-Chris

Jeromy smiled and nodded. “Must be fresh to The Fleet, huh? Sure, the L.T. is Officer of the Deck this shift. But honestly, no one short of Command Staff really ask permission to come aboard.” He put his hands up in friendly defense as he smiled bigger. “But who am I to rob you of your first great permission query. Come on, then.”

Jeromy led him to the Lieutenant near the door at the console who was going over a PaDD in his hand. The young man coughed to get his attention, then nodded to Johnathan. Stepping aside, he let the new crew member have his moment.

Profitt glanced from Rhodes to Baptiste. Settling his eyes on the newcomer, he set the PaDD on the console. “Can I help you?” He seemed pleasant enough, though not nearly as jovial as Jeromy.

NE Rhodes
Lt Profitt

Ensign Johnathan Baptiste smiled “Yes sir you may,” he handed over his PaDD “as per protocol, Ensign Johnathan Baptiste request permission to come aboard and report for duty. I am told that most individuals with the exception of Command Staff really ask permission, I am however a doctor and short cutting is a definite no, no.”

-Ensign Johnathan Baptiste, medical

Profitt smiled and taped a few keys on the PaDD. “Well I definitely agree short cutting is a bad thing. But as far as protocols go, not requesting permission isn’t a necessity, so not doing so isn’t short cutting.” He glance back up and gave a polite nod. “But since you were so dedicated, permission granted, Ensign Baptiste. Welcome aboard the Ark Angel. I hope you enjoy your tour with us. Feel free to ask anything of any of us. If we aren’t sure then we’ll find someone who is. And Rhodes, here will be happy to show you your quarters and anything else you need directions to. And again, welcome aboard.” He gave a small bow of respect and motioned politely towards the door to the rest of the ship.

N Lt Profitt
Officer of the Deck

Ensign Baptiste nodded and replied, “Thank you.” He turned to NE Rhodes, well then lead the way.”

-Johnathan Baptiste, medical

((My sincerest apologies for the AWOL. Did you wish to continue or just drop it as finished?))
