Both EMHs got to work triaging and working on various other patients. Andone as she was laid carefully onto the bio-surgical-bed was in rough shape. The lower corner of her jaws was in mangled shape from the chunk of console plating had lodged up through her jaw into her mouth slightly piercing her upper mouth/jaw. This had caused the aforementioned worse of blood loss and clogging of blood down her throat and air passages. The suctioning the NEs had done had cleared the worse of this and the iso-protein injection to speed her coagulating of the blood had helped as well. But the coming surgery would be time consuming to carefully extract the lodged console shard not to mention then regenerating the Romulan’s cheek, jaw muscles/bone and such. Minor accessory injuries of the rear of her lower head and upper neck would also need to be addressed later but those could wait.

At the request for Romulan blood plasma NE Michaels came up first from the storage area with said injections in tow. “..Got’em! Thankfully had plenty from her own donation of such a week ago, as well as other members of the crew sharing her blood type among a few of our Romulan refugees we got..” he said setting them down for use soon. “..Should we alert the school shelter where her daughter is at of her mother’s status? I mean she can’t come down here given the red alert lock down still but she might want to know?” he then asked.

Making haste to finish the preparations for the coming surgery by ripping the shoulder and neck covering pieces of the Commodore’s uniform and covering the rest of her with a surgical sheet, NE Strickland chimed in, “..No Michael! Why would you want to worry or scare the poor teen? God man she’s tough sure but the girl has already lost her father twice and now risk loosing her mother too with no other family to go too?!? Are you stupid jeesh!” he said. Turning then to Baptiste he finished, “..She’s ready for surgery then!”

Ensign Baptiste took a slow and steady breath. He looked to see that the Surgical Support Frame was in place and properly functioning, not that he thought for a second the surgical team he had selected did not know what they were doing. He then stated =^=Computer, please play my mix of Nina Simone and Norma Tanega surgical mix.=^= After the computer began playing, he looked at his team “This is going to be a long and slow process.” He looked at each of the crew. “Okay let’s start. NE Michaels an exoscalpel, please.” The nurse handed him the requested exoscalpel. “NE Strickland please suction as I cut the console piece in her mouth. I will be making two cuts. The first near the roof but still allowing for a small piece to remain and the other just above the split in her tongue, jawbone and cheek. I will then remove the section we cut to allow free access to the actual wounds, and removal of the foreign bodies. Any questions?” Johnathan looked up and saw his team nod. He then proceeded to cut into the boronite whisker composite of the lodged in console in the Commodores chin, mouth and jaw. “Suction as I cut, ensure you are close to the scalpel, we do not want any of the boronite material entering her air way. NE O’Donnell how does her vitals look?” NE O’Donnell looked at the readings on the Surgical Support Frame, “Currently everything is within norms for a Romulan.” Baptiste nodded “Okay first cut done. Suction her mouth and ensure the airway remains clear.” NE Strickland began another suctioning run into the Commodores mouth clearing the saliva, blood and boronite fragments. NE Michaels continued with her monitoring of the transfusion of plasma and also ensuring the anesthetics were working, the trick being to not overdose the Commodore, but keep her sedated. “Okay now for the second cut NE O’Donnell please take a set of forceps and grab a hold of the piece here.” Johnathan said indicating the spot he wanted the technician to grab with the forceps. “NE Strickland, same as before suction as I cut, this is a longer cut and close to a lot of soft tissue, let’s be careful.” Johnathan slowly cut the rest of the fragment, in a slow precise manner. Once he had finished his cut, he quickly set the exoscalpel down and took the forceps from NE O’Donnell and slowly removed the jagged piece of console from the Commodores mouth. Johnathan looked up at his team, “That was the easy part. Now comes the difficult parts.” How are her vitals?” he asked of NE Michaels. “Stable.” Replied NE Michaels “Okay hit her with another dose iso-protein and monitor her bodies response. I am going to remove the sliver in her palate, damn thing stuck her between the hard and soft portions.” He looked at O’Donnell “Okay I need you to hold the sliver here,” again Baptiste showed the tech where he wanted the forceps, while I work to open and free up the sliver.” He then took a micro-tone and began to make an extremely precise cut in the upper hard palate. Once he had opened up the area, he wanted he again took the forceps from NE O’Donnell and slow removed the sliver of fragment in the commodore’s palate. “Okay NE Strickland suction the area good.” Said Johnathan. He then took a small saline bottle and squirted it into the upper wound as NE Strickland suctioned. Once satisfied the wound was cleaned out Johnathan took an autosuture and began closing the wound in the palate. By now forty-five minutes had passed and the team had only just scratched the damage done to the Commodore.

OOC: Nice work above here! I was going to have something happen during that but i’ll be nice....for now ;) and not have it happen

=^=Bridge, Demil and myself are alright!=^= Gavin called out as he rushed into the Sickbay. =^= It was touch and go there for a moment, but we were able to get everyone out before the decompression. =^= The CMO stopped for a moment and noticed that John was currently working on the CO. =^= What the hell happened up there?=^= He called out as he grabbed a hypospray. =^= Nevermind, I’m going to quickly treat my burns then head to account our injured =^=

Doctor Stacey ended the call and quickly dispensed 2ml of terakine, filled the hypospray, and then applied it to himself. Gavin glanced over and grabbed the dermal regenerator, then made his way over to where John was.

“How long has she been in here?” Dr. Stacey asked, as he applied the regenerator to his burns.

Johnathan did not even bother looking up at Doctor Stacy, as he was busy with an exoscalpel and surgical forceps removing the shattered remains of the Commodore’s premolars and molars from her left side shattered mandible and upper maxilla. “More suction NE Strickland.” Baptiste instructed as he pulled even more shattered teeth and tissue out of the Commodore’s mouth and placed them in a Mckesson steel emesis basin. NE Nurse Michaels responded to the Chief Medical Officers question, as she continued monitoring the Commodore “We have been in surgery for approximately,” here she referenced a clock on the Surgical Support Frame, “Fifty-five minutes, Sir. We have removed a large section of foreign material, a sliver of foreign material from the upper hard and soft palate. We are now working on the lower left side of her mandible and maxilla.” Johnathan in the meantime was finished with debriding the shattered teeth, bone and tissue from the areas of the Commodores left mandible and maxilla, he looked up at Doctor Stacey “Do you wish to take over Sir? I am about to separate the tissue around the lower left side of the mandible in order to better extract the lower portion of the foreign body from the Commodore. After that I will put everything back together and repair the tongue. Commodore will have some scars in her mouth and be unable to talk for the near future. She will also need to see an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon to further repair things.” As he finished the music switched over to a Norma Tanega song You’re Dead.

Just as Baptiste was finishing up his part of things with the NEs Strickland as he removed the suction pipe spoke up with concern, “..Sir! Updated scans, seems like we got micro-fragments got from her throat into her lungs!” he said as he finished several beeps spoke up in alarm. Three micro-fragments had indeed drifted into her lungs and were already making micro-cuts inside the left lung! Fresh blood began to seep into the lung as a result....

Gavin was about to respond but was interrupted by Strickland’s update. While he may have a year or two more experience than the Ensign, the CMO was in no condition to take over a surgery.

Johnathan cursed in French “Aux Neuf Enfers, pourquoi dans l’enfer sanglant ne pouvons-nous pas reprendre notre souffle. Est-ce que le foutu Commodore a tout pour moi?” Realizing he had muttered in French he quickly switched back over to English “Okay. Folks the Commodore has decided to aspirate some micro fragments, I am going to need bronchoscope the situation. I am going to need the flexible bronchoscope ensure it has both suction and electrocautery instruments attached.” He snapped. NE Tech O’Donnell piped up “On it Sir.” And he quickly moved out to get the instrument requested. “NE Strickland continue with suctioning, and NE Nurse Michaels please continue to monitor the Commodore and keep her sedated. I am also going to need the three-dimensional image of the lungs.” stated Johnathan. NE Michaels quickly hit some buttons on the Surgical Support Frame and a three-dimensional image of the Commodores lungs came to life, she hit a few more buttons and the image began showing where the micro fragments had decided to go, lucky for Johnathan they all went to the right side. NE O’Donnell came right back and handed the flexible endoscope to Johnathan. Ensign Baptiste did a quick and thorough inspection of the instrument, satisfied that it had the suction tip and electrocautery tip, he looked at the team, “Okay here goes, NE Strickland continue with suctioning of the mouth, NE O’Donnell monitor and adjust the Oxygen as needed. NE Nurse Michaels will continue monitoring vital signs and administer necessary drugs when needed.” With that Johnathan slowly inserted the flexible bronchoscope, an extremely difficult process due to the damage done to the Commodore’s jaw and mouth. Ensign Baptiste had completely forgotten about Chief Medical Officer Stacey, as he began the procedure.

LtJG Stacey continued to treat his burns as he stepped closer to the surgery bed. “You’re going to have to continue as point on this surgery, Doctor,” Gavin stated. “I’ve second-degree burns on my hands, arms, and face which aren’t going to finish healing in time.” Doctor Stacey watched the procedure from the sideline. He had no doubt that John could pull this off. He may not be the most experienced, but he had very experienced med techs and nurses on his team.
