Just as Baptiste was finishing up his part of things with the NEs Strickland as he removed the suction pipe spoke up with concern, “..Sir! Updated scans, seems like we got micro-fragments got from her throat into her lungs!” he said as he finished several beeps spoke up in alarm. Three micro-fragments had indeed drifted into her lungs and were already making micro-cuts inside the left lung! Fresh blood began to seep into the lung as a result....

Gavin was about to respond but was interrupted by Strickland’s update. While he may have a year or two more experience than the Ensign, the CMO was in no condition to take over a surgery.

Johnathan cursed in French “Aux Neuf Enfers, pourquoi dans l’enfer sanglant ne pouvons-nous pas reprendre notre souffle. Est-ce que le foutu Commodore a tout pour moi?” Realizing he had muttered in French he quickly switched back over to English “Okay. Folks the Commodore has decided to aspirate some micro fragments, I am going to need bronchoscope the situation. I am going to need the flexible bronchoscope ensure it has both suction and electrocautery instruments attached.” He snapped. NE Tech O’Donnell piped up “On it Sir.” And he quickly moved out to get the instrument requested. “NE Strickland continue with suctioning, and NE Nurse Michaels please continue to monitor the Commodore and keep her sedated. I am also going to need the three-dimensional image of the lungs.” stated Johnathan. NE Michaels quickly hit some buttons on the Surgical Support Frame and a three-dimensional image of the Commodores lungs came to life, she hit a few more buttons and the image began showing where the micro fragments had decided to go, lucky for Johnathan they all went to the right side. NE O’Donnell came right back and handed the flexible endoscope to Johnathan. Ensign Baptiste did a quick and thorough inspection of the instrument, satisfied that it had the suction tip and electrocautery tip, he looked at the team, “Okay here goes, NE Strickland continue with suctioning of the mouth, NE O’Donnell monitor and adjust the Oxygen as needed. NE Nurse Michaels will continue monitoring vital signs and administer necessary drugs when needed.” With that Johnathan slowly inserted the flexible bronchoscope, an extremely difficult process due to the damage done to the Commodore’s jaw and mouth. Ensign Baptiste had completely forgotten about Chief Medical Officer Stacey, as he began the procedure.

LtJG Stacey continued to treat his burns as he stepped closer to the surgery bed. “You’re going to have to continue as point on this surgery, Doctor,” Gavin stated. “I’ve second-degree burns on my hands, arms, and face which aren’t going to finish healing in time.” Doctor Stacey watched the procedure from the sideline. He had no doubt that John could pull this off. He may not be the most experienced, but he had very experienced med techs and nurses on his team.

Thankfully due to Baptiste’s quick work the critical issues of the foreign particles were soon mopped up. The long slow process of reconstructing her jaw, tongue and mouth/cheeks could then begin. The Commodore would no doubt need to take it easy for a while on food and emotional reactions with her face, and would likely have a number of scars in some form and bruising for a day or two but she would survive.

As he regenerated his wound, the CMO carefully watched Ensign Baptiste perform the reconstruction on the CO’s mouth. Gavin winced at the thought of how permanent her injury would have been a few hundred years earlier. “Thank the gods for modern medicine,” Dr. Stacey said as he looked down to watch his own injury’s progress.

Ensign Baptiste finished up with his repairs of the Commodore and looked up at Lieutenant Stacey “Well I stopped the bleeding and repaired the damage I could. She lost two premolars and three molars, did repairs to the gums, tongue and both hard and soft palate. She is going to need to see a maxillofacial specialist for further repairs and healing but for now she will make it. Lungs took some damage but should heal, but she will need to be monitored for pneumonia, bronchiectasis, lung abscess, and atelectasis. I am starting her on a broad-spectrum antibiotic regiment as well as a broad-spectrum virus regiment. NE Nurse Michaels you will stay and continue to monitor the Commodore, once she is placed in recovery, she will remain her in sickbay in the recovery room. The rest of us have to get back to work.” with that he motioned everyone to return to what duties they had been assigned. Still with the green blood of the Commodore as well as red and yellow blood spots on his uniform from the other patients he had been treating Johnathan motioned for Lieutenant Stacey to take a seat “Let me look at those burns sir.” =^=Itri to Sickbay. Dr. Stacey, Dr. Baptiste any update on how Commodore Andone is doing?=^= came a call on Baptiste combadge, just as he motioned for the CSO to take a seat for him to examine his burns. =^=Ensign Baptiste here. The Commodore is in stable condition still in a recuperative coma. I am currently getting ready to treat Lieutenant Stacey for burns. =^=

“Did Lieutenant Azon make their way here?” Gavin asked after Baptiste finished his call, “The last I saw of the Science Chief, they were dragging a crewman away from the fire and to Sickbay…” The CMO thought he should ask the Bridge, but decided that they were probably down in the secondary Sickbay.
