The doors of the Ensign’s Quarters slid open and he gingerly stepped into the corridor where there were a few other members of the ship’s complement moving from one place to another.
As he walked along he tried his best to take in his new environment and to feel a part of it all again, but he found it very difficult. It had been 3 years since he’d been on a Starship and it felt like a lifetime ago. He so desperately wanted it all to come flooding back to him, like he’d only been away for a few days so he could feel the comfort and confidence he once did, but it just didn’t. He hadn’t felt this nervous in a long time and no matter how much he tried to swallow his nerves, it seemed they were here to stay.

Soon enough he arrived at the TurboLift. The doors slid open and he was just about to step in as the people already in the lift stepped out. Buckingham stepped back and smiled kindly, allowing them room to leave. One of the lift’s occupants returned his smile as they walked past him and for the briefest of moments he felt calmed. However, the nervousness quickly returned as he stepped into the TurboLift.
“Deck 12” He said, and the lift whirred into life.

No sooner than the lift had started, it came to a halt again and the doors wooshed open, and with them a pang of trepidation. He left the lift and pushed on towards Sickbay. He was about to walk straight in when he stopped himself in the belief that taking a quick moment to compose and reassure himself might help. And perhaps it did, but only slightly.

He stepped into Sickbay and was much reassured to see that thankfully things hadn’t changed too greatly in his time away from Service. He looked around, noting in his head the instruments and devices as he recognised them. He was starting to feel a little more comfortable.
He tried to attract the attention of a passing Nurse. “Excuse me, sorry, I was wondering if you could tell me where I might find the CMO?”

“Try speaking up a little and they might answer back,” Gavin laughed as he waltzed from his office towards the new officer. “I’m Lieutenant Stacey, your Chief Medical Officer,” Gavin said, extending his hand for a shake. “You must be my new Doctor, Ensign Buckingham?” The LTJG asked, not wanting to mistake another scientist for a medical doctor. Gavin had noticed earlier that his new Doctor had some experience under his belt, so the CMO was sure his retraining would be a breeze.

CMO

Ensign Buckingham smiled at the CMOs joke, though it did little to ease his nerves.
“Lieutenant Stacey, how do you do. ” he said as he returned the Lieutenant’s handshake firmly.
“That’s right - Ensign Buckingham reporting for duty, Sir.” Buckingham spoke warmly. He was eager to get his relationship with his Department Head off to the best possible start. During his service aboard the Ark Angel it was more than likely that at times he would be working closely with the CMO, so a good working relationship would be beneficial, for both Doctors and the Patients alike.
“I hope you’ll forgive my nervousness, Sir, as you’ll have no doubt seen from my service record it’s been a little while since I have been aboard a Starship.”

“That’s quite alright, Mister Buckingham,” Doctor Stacey replied, watching Johnathan enter Sickbay from the corner of his eye.

Ensign Johnathan stepped into the main sickbay to gather more supplies for the Main Engineering Sickbay, which he was slowly turning into a more functional sickbay to be used by the engineers and operations staff. Closer for care, in his opinion, when he saw Chief Medical Officer Stacey speaking to tall and skinny human in the traditional blue of both medical and science. Wonder if this is the new doc we’re supposed to be getting he thought. He caught NE Nurse Lucille eye and motioned her over to him “Hey Lucille, I need thirty units of Dermaline, fifty units of Dermaline Gel, and thirty units of Kelotane. Damn engineers seem to want to burn themselves an awful lot.” he said with a smile. “Right away Doctor.” replied NE Nurse Lucille as she winked and turned to gather the requested medications.

“I want to pair you up with another one of our newer docs, Ensign Baptiste,” Gavin said. He guided Thomas toward where John was standing.

Thomas followed the CMO as he listened closely.

“John, this is Thomas Burkingham, our new doctor.” The CMO stated, introducing the pair. “Our most recent assignment was John’s first aboard the AA, he had the opportunity to save the Commodore!” Gavin exclaimed.

CMO

“Wow! Congratulations John!” Thomas said as he extended his Hand for a Handshake. “Pleased to meet you! There’s nothing like a high pressure job for your first, eh?”
Buckingham was pleased that he would have another experienced Doctor to be working with. He found that it’s always nice to have someone to bounce ideas off and lend a hand if needed.

“Thank you, just doing my job. I am waiting for the Commodore to bust me to recruit for the scars and missing teeth she is going to have” he joked as he shook Ensign Buckingham’s hand. “She is going to need a very good Minifacial Surgeon to repair the damage she sustained. I’m emergency and trauma surgeon trained, so good at fixing the immediate issue, not so good at making it look pretty.” he said with an easy smile.
