Once Buchanan hooked up the diagnostic scanner to the replicator he would find that the matter replication containment matrix chips were a fair bit out of alignment or in the case of the third of the four chips were damaged/burned out. The three that were still usable would need to be realigned the third one would need to be pulled out and replaced to ensure that replicated materials of a physical nature like the straw would hold their cohesion once replicated or they would liquify as the straw had so recently done. The same could be said for any bowls, cups, plates, or utensils if made. Food and liquids would be unaffected but anything container wise would not. If Buchanan had to guess he could likely figure the damage had likely come during their combat a few days prior and some overload somewhere had been rerouted by the automatic redundancy systems to this area where the extra charge had done this damage and gotten overlooked in normal diagnostics.

Kaden looked down at the scanner to see what was wrong. He was worried about the containment matrix chips being out of alignment and a few of them needing to be replaced. He did not have any with him in his toolbox but he made note of it. He then responded to the Commodore, “The scanner indicates there are some issues with the containment matrix chips. I can align a few of them but I do not have any to replace the bad ones with. ” He then pulled out the tool needed to align the chips and had it do its thing. He then said to the Commodore, “I have aligned the non-failed chips but there are still two that need to be replaced. I will need to go back to engineering in order to get those chips in order to correct the issue.” He then waited for a response from the Commodore. He did not want to ask to leave as it would be out of rank to assume it was alright and just leave to get the chips.

Drudoc seemed perhaps pleased with his findings, “..Very well Ensign. Please go retrieve them and return soon as you can to finish the work. We have some other things to discuss once you are finished.” She said.

Kaden then said, “Yes ma’am. I should be back in the next few minutes with new chips”. Kaden then got up and walked and rode to engineering. When he arrived, he looked around and saw NE Talbot still working at the station he was requested. As Kaden walked by, he asked Talbot, “How is the diagnostic going?” The ensign then responded, “The diagnostic is still going. I am keeping an eye on it to verify it is still running.” Kaden then responded as he was walking towards storage area for chips, “Thank you ensign.” Kaden then entered the storage area. There is a draw with different chips and he went into it to grab 4 containment matrix chips. He wanted to make sure and take a few extra ones in case something was wrong with one of two of them. He then left engineering to make his way back to the Commodore’s office. He arrived after a few minutes and rang the bell again. He did not want to enter the Commodore’s office without permissions. He waited for a response from the Commodore.
