OOC: I’ve set the thread up for your practice run. My character will join later :)

-Ray

Johnathan entered the Holodeck and looked about, he then stepped up to the surgical biobed. Laying on it was a simulation of the Commodore. He looked to see that the Surgical Support Frame was set up and that the maxillofacial images were displayed in a holographic display just above the Surgical Support Frame. He then checked the surgical tray and verified that the instruments were placed correctly and ready for use. Now all that was needed was his fellow doctors, and NE Nurse Chang, NE Nurse Travis, and NE Medical Technician Harrison. He had chosen the last three based of their service records, all three had been at Starfleet medical and served in the reconstructive and plastic surgery and ward.

Thomas joined Ensign Baptiste in the Holodeck. Despite having done some reading on the nature of this exercise Thomas felt uneasy about this procedure as this was pretty much uncharted ground for him. * Thank goodness this is a simulation * he thought to himself. As first customers go, the Commodore is big business.
“Ensign Baptiste” Buckingham said by way of greeting as he approached the Biobed.

Jonathan looked up from his inspection of things, “Ensign Buckingham, pleasure to see you. Just trying to go over all the Fun I forgot from my reconstructive surgery rotation. I specialized in Emergency Medicine and Trauma Surgery, not the cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, though I had to do a rotation. Called in NE Nurse Chang, NE Nurse Travis and NE Medical Technician Harrison; they have all served at Starfleet Medical in the reconstructive and cosmetic surgery ward.” He looked at Thomas “Had much experience in surgery?”

-Ensign Johnathan Baptiste, Medical

“Very little at all, I’m afraid” Thomas said regrettably. “Much like yourself I specialise in Trauma and Emergency Medicine, so I haven’t really had much experience at all in cosmetic or reconstructive surgery - only what they taught in medical school.”
As Thomas spoke the full magnitude of the task began to reveal itself to him. This really was going to be a challenge.
“Good shout on the choice of Nurses and Technicians though. Very appropriate” Thomas smiled.

Just as Johnathan was about to say something the Holodeck doors opened and in walked NE Nurse Chang, NE Nurse Travis and NE Medical Technician Harrison, talking and laughing amongst themselves. They stopped immediately when they saw how the holodeck program was set up. NE Nurse Chang spoke up “Oh crap, please tell me we are not going to try and perform maxillofacial reconstructive surgery on the Commodore!” Johnathan chuckled and replied “Afraid so, Boss says to do, but practice before we do it.” NE Nurse Chang swore in Chinese. “Well now that we are all here, first allow me to introduce Doctor Buckingham. Doctor Buckingham this is NE Nurse Chang, NE Nurse Travis, and NE Medical Technician Harrison. Okay, folks now that the introductions are finished let’s get down to business. NE Chang I believe you are the most proficient and knowledgeable on anesthesia so I want you to mind the Surgical Support Frame and administer drugs as necessary. NE Travis, you will monitor and suction the airway, and NE Harrison you are the instrument technician. Doctor Buckingham you will assist and I am primary. Any questions?”

-Ensign Johnathan Baptiste, Medical

OCC: Feel free to play any of the three NE and add to our issues as you feel.

Buckingham nodded quietly and smiled as Jonathan introduced him to he NE Nurses.
“That suits me perfectly, let’s get this show on the road” Thomas said enthusiastically.

OOC: Have some fun with this thread. The goal is to get the both of you more comfortable rping the stuff that might not have much action. Try some character development, talk to each other about your history while also rping the practice surgery.

IC: “Not so fast, Ensigns,” Doctor Stacey said as he entered the holodeck. “Computer, place a bar stool about 3 feet in height, 2 feet out of the operating zone.” The CMO watched the stool appear, pulled out a PaDD, and sat down. “You two are going to own this surgery, but it’s my job to make sure you leave here knowing exactly what to do.” LtJG Stacy said as he stared at the both of them. “So, until you get a successful run, no one is leaving this holodeck.....”

CMO

“Yes sir” Buckingham said as he watched the CMO take a seat.

Johnathan paused for a second and then nodded his understanding “Okay then let’s get the show on the road. Computer please play my surgery list.” Faintly in the background Norma Tanega’s You’re Dead began to play. Johnathan spoke up “Mouth Gag” and NE Harrison handed Johnathan the Dental Mouth Gag. “Okay let’s place a Nasopharyngeal airway.” Again NE Harrison handed Johnathan Nasopharyngeal airway. Johnathan slide the device in and looked up at the three dimensional image of the Commodore’s maxillofacial images; he confirmed good placement of the Nasopharyngeal airway. “Everyone in agreement that the airway is placed and good?” He inquired.

-Ensign Johnathan Baptiste, Medical

Buckingham closely inspected the work that had already taken place. “Looks good to me” Buckingham confirmed.
Despite this being a Holodeck simulation the pressure and intensity felt just a vivid as the real thing. This really was going to be a walk on the wild side for Thomas, but these are the challenges that he would have to be ready for in his Star Fleet service, so he’d better start acclimatizing now.

Johnathan nodded his acknowledgement to his team “Okay, here we go. I am going to start with repairs to the hard palate and soft palate first. Micro-Tone please.” NE Harrison handed Johnathan a Micro-Tone. “I want to make some very fine and precise cuts on the hard and soft palates to remove the scar tissue.” Here Johnathan began to cut close to the scar tissue areas. “Suction.” NE Travis suctioned away the green blood the Commodore began to bleed. The three dimensional images showed the areas Johnathan was working on. Johnathan looked up from his incisions. “NE Chang please bump up the iso protein levels by 5cc. I am getting a little more bleeding than I expected.” “Copy doctor.” Replied NE Chang and she administered the prescribed dosage. “Okay, have the scar tissue removed, I believe we should be able to close these wounds with an Dermal Regenerator.” NE Harrison handed Baptiste a Dermal Regenerator. “Suction.” Again NE Travis suctioned, once cleared Johnathan began using the Dermal Regenerator to heal the small incision to the scars he had made. After about fifteen minutes Johnathan looked up “Suction good, what do you think? Doctor Buckingham?”

-Ensign Johnathan Baptiste, Medical

Buckingham was impressed with the way the Doctor Baptiste worked. He was calm and collected, yet quick and efficient. Surgery is a balancing act which, one in Thomas’s opinion, Johnathan was performing fantastically.
At Doctor Baptiste’s invitation Buckingham leaned in slightly closer and visually surveyed the work. After a couple of moments Buckingham stood up straight again.
“Looks good to me Doctor. Better than I could’ve done I suspect.” Thomas said with humility. “I think closing with Dermal Regenerator is the right way to go, especially with one of the principle missions here being to keep any scaring to a minimum”

Johnathan nodded “Thank you. Now comes the tricky part, putting back the artificial premolars and molars. NE Harrison exoscaplel set at .1 cm.” Johnathan was quickly handed the requested item. He carefully made an incision into gingiva. “Suction, and hand me a sonic separator.” NE Travis began suctioning and NE Harrison handed Johnathan the sonic separator. Once the area had been suctioned to his satisfaction, he began to widen the incision he made. “Okay, first premolar, Doctor Buckingham I am going to need you to keep the premolar in place as I bind the premolar to the gingiva.”

-Ensign Johnathan Baptiste, Medical

“Very well” Buckingham stepped forward and steadied himself ready.

“Not bad, Doctors,” Gavin piped in, stopping to look up from his PaDD and towards the pair of Ensigns. “The positioning of the teeth is extremely important.” The CMO said as he set the PaDD down to get a closer inspection. “We don’t want the Commodore to bite her tongue every time she closed her mouth.” LtJg Stacey didn’t see anything out of the ordinary or out of place.

“Now If you two can successfully complete the final steps, you’ll be ready for Andone.”

Stacey
CMO

‘No pressure then’ Buckingham thought to himself as he carefully positioned the Tooth in place. “There” He said “How’s that looking?”

Ensign Thomas Buckingham - Medical

Johnathan looked at the position and gently nudged it into alignment. He then began the process of binding the premolar to the gingiva. He repeated the process with Doctor Buckingham until the premolars and molars were in alignment and bound to the gingiva. “Okay” said Johnathan as he inspected their work suction please.” NE Travis suctioned the Commodore’s mouth and Johnathan made one last inspection, “Looks good, some very minute scars on the hard palate and soft palate, as well as the tongue and gingiva. What do you think Doctor Buckingham?”

-Ensign Johnathan Baptiste, Medical

Buckingham stood upright and straitened his back. “Excellent work Doctor” Buckingham smiled. “But of course I’ll let Dr. Stacey be the final judge of our work” Thomas looked towards the CMO and waited for his verdict.
