SNIP

Johnathan smiled “Ah, a future Engineer in the making. Plan to work for Starfleet Corps of Engineers when your ready?” He popped one of the Theravatosan Iceberries in his mouth. The berry was extremely cold but delicious, the juice making a smoothie type texture in his mouth. “Damn, bet these Theravatosan Iceberries would make a hell of an Eiswein wine.” He said.

” maby I have not decided I like medicine to I use to help in the sickbay on the Viking befor we moved her” she said with a bright grinn.

” she took my camunicater apart recently I had to get an engineer to out it back to gether” Luna added.

“We are gratified!” The ape stated cheerily, making itself comfortable as it’s tail dangled behind it, poking out of the uniform with the tip nearly touching the floor. The small birds surrounding the ape turned their attention as the doors opened, quickly getting out of the way of Cerenity’s incoming flight path and hovering near her, as if fascinated by her appearance before turning to Luna, flitting over to her with lightning speed. They were reminiscent of very small hummingbirds, their wings beating tens of times a second before returning to the table, clearly interested in the food as they took miniscule bites. “Greetings Ensign Luna, Miss Cerenity.” The ape stated, before coughing slightly. “Excuse me.” He stated, having covered his mouth.

” Hi its nice to meet you” Cerenity said.

Taking the plate from Johnathan and nibbling at the sandwich as the birds took on the onion rings, swarming them and cutting with their claws and beaks since they couldn’t use cutlery. “Ah, perhaps an explanation is in order for all involved.” The primate stated, swallowing a bite of sandwich. “The birds are not my pets. There are 35 of us in our flock. Together with our primate host, we form a telepathic gestalt consciousness, the pooling of 36 individual minds into one being. We are all Thay Siu Gaeng. We lack vocal chords capable of making speech as you’d recognize it and we lack opposable digits, so we formed a symbiotic relationship with a primate species on our homeworld, granting them advanced intelligence and an extended lifespan due to medical care and the transition from wild hunter-gatherer societies to highly developed socieites like those on your home worlds with cities. Our species is known as The Cheylis, and we’re in talks with the Federation about joining them as we are a relatively new space-faring species. This is an exchange program.” The ape explained verbally.

“We have not attempted the fermentation of the Iceberries. If you desire, we would be happy to provide you with some and collaborate on attempting to make an alcoholic beverage from them?” The ape offered.

Ensign Thay Siu Gaeng (Science)

“So…,” said Sifeda a bit intrigued, “You are using,” she held her hand out toward him, “the primate to communicate and form tasks. Does he have a will of his own? Can it perform its own tasks and accomplishments own goals at will? Like the host of Trill symbiont?” She asked. “There has not been a species like yours before and there will be lots of questions. “How do you keep all the personalities in order? I mean who makes the decisions? Is it an amalgamated effort? It seems that things can get complicated if you are say…on the bridge at a station?”

Itri, XO

Johnathan was fascinated about Ensign Gaeng, this was the first time he had ever encountered symbiont species. Sure he had read up on the Trill, even practiced on holodeck simulations on managing their unique needs in surgery, he wondered what unique medical needs Ensign Gaeng would require. “Sure we can attempt to ferment some of the Theravatosan Iceberries, that is of course if the captain and xo have no objections.” He replied. “You said that you are a gestalt or symbiont race. Are there unique and necessary medical needs and cares you may require. I only ask as I am one of the doctors on this ship, my specialty is emergency medicine and trauma surgery, and I want to ensure I am up to speed in taking the best care of you should a medical issue arise.”

-Ensign Johnathan Baptiste, Medical

Cerenity listened intently. “Really you work in the OR that’s amazing” She said.

Luna tenced her wings pulling in tighter to her body. She took a look around the room. Taking notes of who was there and how may exists there were. ” I find it comforting to meet another bird like species.” She said.
Ensign Luna

Sifeda picked up the bowl of gagh and said, “Try this Luna. Let me know what you think.”

Itri, XO

” of curse” she said will a smile s she took some then looked back at the XO.” Is it sapose to move” She asked a confused look on her face as the Gaah was moving.

Johnathan chuckled, “I work in sickbay doing what is necessary. My specialties happen to be emergency medicine and trauma surgery.” Johnathan explained. He noticed out of the corner of his eye, wonder what nerve I hit with her he thought.

-Ensign Johnathan Baptiste, Medical

” That’s still cool you still help save leves. I can take a bio bed apart in 15 minutes” Cerenity said with a misjivous grin.
Ensign Luna

Johnathan laughed again “Good to know, if the medical bioengineer technicians ever have an issue, I’ll call for you.”

-Ensign Johnathan Baptiste, Medical

“We can and often do communicate without the primate, he is only required when verbal speech is necessary. Most of our conversations, especially between members of our own race are conducted telepathically. We consider it a more natural and improved form of communication, but we understand that certain species would find telepathy uncomfortable or rude.” The ape explained, eating a few more berries quite happily as some birds landed and others flew up. “As for it’s independence, it’s independent thoughts are added to the collective consciousness and processed, our species do not have a concept of individualism but are very centric towards collectivity. Individual thoughts and opinions are presented, but our thought process tend towards the betterment of the whole collective, host and Cheylis alike.” He elaborated, one of the birds taking some gagh since it was clearly used to live food.

Sifeda smiled and was facinated of how much the birds flocked to the gagh. Even with crude Klingon spices they seemed to enjoy it.

“Unique and necessary medical needs… Sometimes we pull our muscles due to flying too much, I understand it might be difficult to treat us individually due to our very diminuitive stature.” Thay offered. “As for our flock, we aren’t all here. One of our member is in our quarters, nesting. We’re expecting chicks, 3 of them and will be bringing food for her so she can keep the eggs warm.”

Ensign Thay Siu Gaeng (Science)

“Your species is fascinating and we will learn so much from you, no doubt.” She took another scoop of the gagh before the birds finished it off.

Itri, XO

Kaden just contined to listen to everything being spoken about. He had a very hectic shift and was just relaxing. He did not feel like doing anything but listening as he was getting tired after eating the delirious food and just enjoying the stories and company. He was also still in a little bit of shock getting promoted to Lt. jg after being on the ship after such a short period but knew he would be able to do it. He just sat back and tried not to fall asleep listening to all the stories.

Johnathan smiled “You’re in luck Ensign Gaeng, my mother, Aamber Baptiste, is an Earth veterinarian, and I used to assist her all the time. I therefore am familiar with non-humanoid species treatment. Though I must admit you’re a very intricate species.” He said emphasizing the word species.

Soirees…

Mar had never been a fan of these ‘intimate gatherings’ that included nearly every person on the ship not already working or sleeping off a double shift. But as CNS is was her duty to go. Dressed in a simple dress of sapphire blue, her matching boots hardly made a thud on the carpet as she entered and looked around. A smile and nod went to everyone she caught eyes with. No one would guess she wasn’t in her element.

Well, to be fair, it was her element. She was more than capable of everything from formal attire Fleet Balls and dignitary dinners as with holodeck simulations that included everything from farming to rock climbing in unbreathable atmospheres (capable because in a holodeck, the toxic atmosphere of the actual location wasn’t an actual problem. But it wasn’t her comfort zone. She was a silent type. She preferred her bench in the garden to a chair at a bar. But here she was.

As she scanned the crowd, she nodded to the bar tender and headed there to retrieve her drink. It was a fruit juice made from a plant she could never pronounce. But the taste was a cross between apple, pears and honey. Like a fine dessert, in drink form, she liked it very much. Turning to face the crowd, she found herself seeking out Kyle. The Security Chief had managed to catch her eye, and her attention, like no one had in a while. And without realizing it, she suddenly wished he was beside her. Moving to the large expanse of windows, she left her back to the crowd and watched people move about in reflection. Seeing them juxtaposed on the glass with the space darkness beyond, it was an interesting thought chain she found herself linking as she sipped her drink.

Cerenity cought sight of the consuler and getting bord with the conversations between the adults she slipped away from the table and aproched the strange women. ” Hi I’m cerenity. Amazing isn’t it space all those specs of light travel so far to reach us” She said with a smile.

Luna could be seen watching them. The mother had a tention to her as of she might leap up at any moment.she shot her eyes a moment and took a deep breath before relaxing. She shifted her position so she could talk with the other adults and watch Cerenity. Then tryed to eat a live worm. The look of shock on her face was kinda comical.
Ensign Luna

“Then we are most fortunate, the birth of new hatchlings is a rare and special ocassion.” Gaeng said happily as the birds twittered and tweeted, doing little fluttery dances of joy, clearly very excited at the prospect as Cerenity went away.

“Miss Luna, are you quite alright?” Ensign Gaeng asked, looking up at her as the expression confused them, unsure on what that face meant. They’d have fun trying to write that one down in the logbooks for the Council back home, that was for certain.

Ensign Gaeng (Science)

“She is just protective.” Sifeda said to Gaeng. Then she focused her attention on Luna. “She will be fine. Remember you are amongst friends. There is no where safer for her to be. Especially in the hands of Marlaa.”

Johnathan also caught her look and intuitively knew it was her motherly instincts in regards to her daughter. He said nothing as he felt it was not his place to say anything. He also had seen the counselor enter the room. He took another bite out of his sandwich as he watched everybody talk and interact.

-Ensign Johnathan Baptiste, Medical

” oh just Suprize iv never tryed to eat something wail it was still alive, im not sure if i enjoy this particular dish or not” She said. She desperately hoped that was the look he was referring to. She could not tell him she was worried that section 31 could pop up at any moment and try to kidnap her or her child” She said.
Ensign Luna

“They are quite tasty. And they taste the best when they are alive.”

Itri, XO

Johnathan made a face at the mention of the mention of Gagh ”Don’t know, stuff makes my stomach turn every time I have tried it.”. He then took another bite of his sandwich and chewed it for a bit, contemplating Gagh and why so many beings found it delicious.

-Ensign Johnathan Baptiste, Medical

“Try being part owl and craving small rodents” Luna said jokingly. though anyone who know luna well know she did not eat rodents or birds.
Ensign Luna

Mar watched the child come towards her and smiled. “It is fantastic, indeed. Do you have a favorite? A planet or star that you look for whenever you look out? Or a star or planet you look forward to seeing again?” She didn’t condescend to the child or coddle her. Her speak didn’t sound any different than if she had been speaking to any other officer on the deck. Anyone listening would probably find it odd. But she had learned a long time ago that speaking to a child like a child made it harder for them to thrive. Using adult terms, adult language and adult nuances gave them something to strive for and things to learn.
