Risan Holiday

Posted Jan. 8, 2019, 7:19 a.m. by Lieutenant John-King McKenzie (Counsellor) (Russell Watt)

Had anyone missed him? Had anyone even noticed he had gone? John-King wondered as he returned to the Asimov. The Counselor had been off with his nephew, Leon, in between postings for his nephew’s work and they enjoyed the time they shared together. Just the two of them, Risa, and tonnes of ice cream, oh and the beach and lots of folk dressed in swimwear of different kinds, for people who appreciated that kind of thing. But for John-King and Leon, the ice cream was the most important bit. It took John-King back to when Leon joined him on the Columbia, a kid mourning the death of his parents and his grandfather, for whom Leon had been named. It took a lot, but eventually Leon was able to move on from the sadness, and the key thing that helped him move on was the ice cream and his uncle’s uncanny ability to interrupt technology of all kinds.

It was with a certain amount of sadness that John-King had farewelled his nephew. Leon was waiting for a new posting, but hadn’t been informed of what it was yet. And so John-King returned to the USS Asimov above Ferenginar, waiting for details of his own ship’s next mission, not knowing if anyone had dealt with Counseling appointments while he was gone, or if they were piling up for him to deal with.

John-King walked down the corridor to his office and was pleased not to see a line up of crew members and officers waiting to see him. He entered the office and checked his subspace inbox … full of messages, mostly from the Pakled officer who seemed unable to take the initiative to do anything worthwhile, just send messages of complainta, it seemed.
