OOC: I am so excited to bring to you a new adventure and hope you enjoy playing. One week from today, we will officially begin Act I. And now I, OZ, the Great and Powerful, present to you, Reconnected.

Prologue:

The ship, adrift in space, was dark, devoid of any light. The nacelles were not aglow with their usual electric blue hue, the deflector dish nothing but a dark disk. Even the windows, which would normally dot an active ship, were mere black spots along the hull. No beacon lights flashed. No spotlights flared. There was only darkness.

If the ship was as dark as night, then it was as silent as death. The usual hum of the engines could not be heard nor felt. The panels and screens did not beep or boop. No doors whooshed open. No turbolifts whirred. Not a single door chime dinged. There were no voices, no laughter, no screams of terror…

The corridors were completely empty. No crewmen scurried. No officers strode. No security personnel patrolled. Engineering lacked its usual bustle. Neither patient nor doctor occupied sickbay. Not even a single experiment effloresced in the science labs. There were no dingy smoke filled barroom programs running in the holodecks, no crewmen eating in the mess, no lovers holding hands in the arboretum. Nothing suggesting life could be found.

In fact, only the shape and layout alone suggested that this should be a starship. Even the name written on the hull was not illuminated enough to be read. However, in each sleeping quarters, in each bed, lie a perfect sleeping specimen of humanoid. They each lay supine, unclothed, uncovered, unmoving, and barely breathing, but they were alive, all 589 of them.

In the captain’s quarters a young woman, young for a captain anyhow, lay exactly as all the others. She was strong, tall, and had a severe looking face, even while sleeping. If she was dreaming, you would not know it for her eyes remained still behind her closed eyelids. She was human, that much was certain, but her skin was pale and silvery and almost gave off its own light in the darkness. Suddenly a noise could be heard, as if from deep in the belly of the ship, a deep resonating metallic clang, then a whir as the deck plates began to vibrate. The engines powered on. The systems started booting up. Deck by deck, section by section, the ship came to life. The lights in the captain’s quarters came up as the young captain’s eyes flicked open. A small straight smile stretched her lips into thin lines as she said this out loud, =/\=General quarters. All senior officers, report to the bridge.=/\=
