John-King came to the door of the CO’s Ready Room and froze.

Questions ran through his mind, and for a few moments he was overcome by them. Among the questions were …

How much of his past did they know?
How much would he have to explain to them?
How much would they let his history control his present mission?
How much would he let it control his present mission?
Would he suffer another relapse with them here?
Was this his last chance to prove to himself he was capable of being a functioning member of Starfleet?

He shook his head and he was back in the present, at the door, an NE saw him standing there and asked, “you fine, Lieutenant? Do you need sickbay?”
John-King looked at the Ensign and smiled briefly, “I’m find thanks Ensign, thanks for the concern.”

Refocused and situated back in the present, John-King reached out and rang the chime with his right hand, waiting for the CO to respond.

Natalie stood up and tugged on her uniform “Enter” she called out as she opened her door and prepared to greet the newcomer to her office. Stepping forward as the door opened, she extended her hand “You must be our new Counselor. Please have a seat. Would you care for something to drink while we chat?” She asked.

CO

OOC: My apologies, I somehow have been missing your post, Tyra. Russell

IC: “Thank you Captain Greer. Yes I am the new Counselor. John-King McKenzie at your service, though most call me JK,” John-King replied, taking a seat at her offer, then thinking on her question, he continued, “I’ve always been rather partial to a caramel thickshake, Captain.”

Natalie smiled and returned with a carmel thickshake “How are you adjusting to be aboard the Asimov.” She asked sitting down “Where are you from originally?” She asked.

“Pretty well, thanks for asking, Captain,” JK replied after a moment’s thought, “I was born on Earth, in Brisbane which is located on the Eastern coast of the old nation state called Australia. I like to get back there whenever I can. However I seem to spend most of my life in space, living and working on whatever starship or starbase Starfleet sees fit to send me. Most recently, I’ve been a tutor at the Academy on Earth while I completed my doctorial studies in Psychology. I do enjoy being back in space, however.” He took a sip of his thickshake and then sighed, “I tell you though, Captain, there’s a place in Brisbane that makes thickshakes, a multitude of flavours. And they do it by hands. These replicated thickshakes are all very well for us in space, but if you like thickshakes, milkshakes or even gelato, Just Poppys Burgers and Gelato in Brisbane’s outer west is the place to go.”

“You yourself grew up on Earth, I believe,” he said, “the northern of the American continents, I believe? And like me, you’ve had issues with your left arm. Though yours is more serious than mine.”

Pausing again, he added by way of explanation, “I read crew profiles closely. To paraphrase Ferengi Rule of Acquisition number 194, It’s always good psychology to know about new patients before they walk in your door. I find the profiles can give me an insight into the needs of my crew so I can make sure I meet their needs efficiently and effectively.”
