OOC: I’ll shuffle things along a little so that the senior staff can start gathering for the briefing. That way the bridge thread can peter out. Everyone can post arriving here immediately from the Bridge hail.

Natalie walked into the conference room and waited for the Admiral to appear. She didn’t like this woman and was hard pressed to be polite when she arrived.

Without wasting a moment, Gavin turned the console over to the Secondary Helmsman and headed in behind the Captain. Taking the seat on the right, one in from the door, and waited for the meeting to start.

Once Paris had security in place and someone to take her role at the console she entered the room behind Gavin and took a seat at the conference table.

Handing off the reigns to another Engineer, Andromeda found her way to the conference room. A silent nod acknowledged the others, as she took a seat beside them.

Vock entered the room and took a seat, a nod of acknowledgement to the assembled officers. He then sat in silence and waited for the briefing to start.

Natalie sighed =^=Transporter room, beam the admiral directly to the conference room.=^= She ordered. The others could arrive when theyc could and Natalie would update them when they could. She knew her crew was busy and they would only miss a meeting if there was something that demanded their immediate attention.

The space at the edge of the conference room shimmered, the telltale energy of an active transport enveloping emptiness, resolving into two forms. As the energy faded, two people stood before them. A tall, rather dour looking, slender blond officer with Commanders pips and an extremely disingenuous smile. Standing slightly before him, a short, plump, middle-aged woman with an uncomfortable amount of makeup and a garish red on her thin, pressed lips. Her expression was so cold it could have been used to crack dilithium. She eyed the assembled officers with an obvious air of disapproval

Natalie stood “Admiral, welcome aboard. I apologize, I was working on my own situation with my Chief Medical Officer.” She added, “So you will have to understand that his safety and the safety of the crew is my utmost concern.” She added regarding the attitude that she had received on the bridge.

Her high pitched tone was nasal and abrasive, cracking on every syllable with an obvious southern American tone “I don’t really care what you were doing, Captain. What matters is that I have better things to do with my time than wait for you to acknowledge my presence. I don’t know what sort of allowances you are used to, Captain, but I won’t tolerate this. This is a Starfleet vessel, not a cruise line. If these people are a reflection of your capability, then I should certainly talk to Admiral Sinclair about his staffing choices. If you weren’t wearing that uniform, I’d question whether you’ve even served aboard a starship. Now, to business. I’ve been given special command in this sector to deal with a dangerous threat to Federation security and the stability of this region. We’ve had a number of attacks recently in this sector. Saurians, Aazzaamites, The First Federation, the Kzinti and even Starfleet. Ordinarily, that wouldn’t be cause for too much alarm. Pirates aren’t entirely uncommon in this region. What is causing problems are several of the distress calls and sensor records which show Starfleet weapons signatures and several visual captures of what appear to be Starfleet vessels. This has caused uproar at the Federation Council and the Saurians, Kzinti, and Aamaazerites are threatening to leave the Federation if this isn’t taken care of. Obviously, we don’t believe it’s Starfleet, especially given that one outpost destroyed was Starfleet. We also believe that the attack on your Chief Medical Officers shuttle is related.” She paused to scowl at those present, particularly Vock, as though she found his involvement irritating “As of now any existing orders are rescinded and your ship has been placed under my direct command. You’ll investigate these attacks, find the culprits, prove that Starfleet isn’t involved and end this stupidity. You’ve got two weeks to find answers before the next Federation Council meeting convenes. All parties involved have been ordered to cooperate with you.” She gestured to the man beside her “This is Commander Kyle Jarrett, my attache. I’m leaving him here to observe and advise. I expect you to treat him as you’d treat me, Captain.” The commander nodded, once again flashing his clearly fake smile at the room. Both returned to silence, Burnett scowling, Jarrett grinning like an idiot.

Persephone slid into the conference room and stayed against the wall near the door as she heard the Admiral mention the attacks being related to the Medical Officer’s shuttle attack. She and Vock had spoke a few times and it had always troubled her that the attack seemed questionable.

A frown creased the Science Chief’s brow as the idea that someone was using stolen Starfleet tech to attack and make it look like her own group had done it. It appalled her on one side… but on the science end, it intrigued her. Knowing a bit more of what they were looking for, she made a mental note to start a different line of investigation as soon as the opportunity presented itself.

Vock spoke up; his voice calm, even, and emotionless as usual. But there was… a look in his eye. A slight hardening of his gaze that was not typical in Vulcans. Still, when he spoke, his voice was nonplussed.

“Admiral, if I may. I am confused as to your directions. You say we are to investigate these attacks, find the culprits, and prove that Starfleet isn’t involved. That would indicate that you have already drawn your conclusions. If that is so, an investigation being done under your authority would be pointless as you already have the answer you want. As far as the attack on the shuttle carrying me and two other now deceased Star Fleet officers being a part of the investigation, I can assure it is. My shuttle was attacked by a Discovery-class Federation star ship. Unknown registry, and it did not respond to multiple hails. It attacked after we identified ourselves as Star Fleet and Federation. It was attempting to destroy us, Admiral. So with that knowledge now in your possession, and the fact that you just said that Starfleet weapon signatures were found at the scenes of the previous attacks, it may prove prudent to reevaluate your previous conclusion, Admiral.”
