See had decided enough was enough. Sliding her feet into sapphire colored ankle boots that matched her leggings, she smoothed down her ivory off the shoulder top and moved to the door. Her long hair was pulled back in pony tail that reached halfway down her back and her fresh water face was devoid of makeup.

Stepping into the hall, she turned right. There was no destination in mind, merely the desire to walk to take the edge off so she could eventually go to bed. “Once around this deck, then we’ll see which direction the nearest turbo lift is going.” She set off at a leisurely pace to do just that.

“Lieutenant,” John-King nodded to her as she reached the door to his quarters. He had just returned from his office, but the reading could be done another time.

“May I join you,” he asked, politely, “I’m John-King, the Counselor, relatively new to the Asimov.”

He was still dressed in his uniform, but he seemed eager to walk and talk.

Seph smiled as the man offered introductions. “Certainly, John… Persephone Milestone. Call me Seph. Chief Science Officer,” she offered and nodded. “And dodger of ship’s counselors,” she added with a wink. “Welcome to our family. I’d say ‘disfunctional’ family, but I’d fear how many you’d find unfit for duty.” She laughed and once more began walking when he joined her.

“I hope you’re finding everything all right. Settling in ok?”

“Dodging the Counsellor,” John-King said with a laugh, “sounds like you’re perfectly sane to me, and cleared for duty, I’ll mark that down on your file when I get back to my office … it is those who appear on my door step just after arriving onboard that I’m most concerned about. I tell you, if I could escape my skin, I’d dodge me as well. But please, it’s JK, it was only ever mum that called me John, and only when I was in trouble for something.”

John-King fell silent as an ensign walked towards and past them, nodding to the two human lieutenants. He used the time to gather his thoughts and continued to speak.

“Oh yes, settling in just fine. Been to see the Captain, the Doctors and then went to my office. I saw that one of your staff, a Pakled by name of Jalkov, had been appointed as Acting Counsellor. I hope he’s better at the sciences than he was at Counsellor, I’ve got appointments with some of the crew he met with and had to undo his work. I found my way to 6-Forward, but I was actually looking for stellar cartography. Never did find stellar cartography, now that I think on it. I’ve also met the Flight Control Officer, a Caitian/Kzin cross, he’s certainly a large one. I’ve yet to meet Commander Black, however, what’s he like?”
