It seemed to be set up to do more than just voice authorization verification. : : : : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Command code authorized. DNA scan verified. Welcome Fleet Captain Lawrence. DNA scan verified. Welcome Lt. Cmdr. Paris Carisi. DNA scan verified. Welcome Lt. Seph Milestone,” said the familiar voice of the standard Federation computer. : : : : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The door opened only to reveal a small room with a other door. : : : : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Paris looked at Seph. She could tell her friend did not like being in the dark. As soon as possible Paris would fill her in with a little as she knew. Lawrence was thier superior and prior Captian but that was once and prior. Seph is on her crew and is her friend. To Paris the verb tenses meant all the difference. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Lt. Paris Carisi, COS : : : : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Once the away team stepped in the small room, the door to the exit shut tight. : : : : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Alert! The Federation Embassy is currently under level 5 security lock down! Only authorized Federation and Starfleet personnel are allowed beyond this point. Federation citizens requiring assistance must authorize with their personal identification code for an embassy official provide further assistance. Command authorization codes required from Lt. Cmdr. Paris Carisi and Lt. Seph Milestone. Unauthorized access will result in the immediate beam out of the compound,” said the computer. : : : : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : : : : GM : : : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : : : “I suggest you two give your codes....” Ryder stated as he looked around the room. The Fleet Captain was aware that a security lock down would be in place, as the Ambassador was MIA.  : : : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Anyone here?!” The Intel Officer called out, hoping to get a response.  : : : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : : : Lawrence : : : : : : : : : : : : : Intel : : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : : No one replied, only the computer: : : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : : “Alert! Federation citizens requiring assistance must authorize with their personal identification code for an embassy official provide further assistance. Command authorization codes required from Lt. Cmdr. Paris Carisi and Lt. Seph Milestone. Unauthorized access will result in the immediate beam out of the compound,” said the computer again, “Failure to provide a response in 10 minutes will result in the beam out of unauthorized personnel.” : : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : : That seemed to imply while Lawrence was okay to stay, the computer wasn’t authorized to open the door until all unsecured personnel identified themselves or they were no longer in the room. : : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : : GM : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : As they walked in and the door slammed shut, Seph couldn’t help but jump. “It has cellular match merely from me checking the door?” The surprise in her voice was enough to make one wonder if it was awe or anger that such a thing happened.  : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : When the second warning went off, the Chief Science Officer growled slightly under her breath and turned her head towards the ceiling as if unsure what direction to address. “Milestone, Persephone, Lieutenant,” she began. After a moment’s pause she gave her authorization code from the ship and hoped it was the code the disembodied voice was seeking. She was unaware of any other code that would gain her access to the embassy. She then glanced at Paris and nodded slightly with a half shrug, hoping her friend would do the same. Being left here, unaware what was going on, without Paris, wasn’t something she was ready for. : : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : : Lt Seph Milestone : : : : : : : : : : : CSO : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : “Authorization confirmed for Lt. Milestone,” said the computer. : : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : : GM : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : Paris was instantly more on guard about Ryder. If this mission was sanctioned and supposed to be on the sly, why was the computer even announcing with a bullhorn they were there. Ryder specifically wanted Greer and Black on the outside of this thing but the embassy would now have a record. His last comment of ‘I’m hoping the Federation was able to give me access to this, otherwise we’d have to ring the bell’ sounded like a klaxon in her mind. If this wasn’t ringing a bell, Paris would need to go back to the Academy and retake English 101 to learn definitions of basic words. “Hotel Alpha November Sierra Oscar Lima Oscar,” Paris said in an uneasy tone glaring at Ryder. As soon as they were granted clearance into the building, she would have a few select words to say to him.  : : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : : Lt. Commander Paris Carisi, COS : : : : : :  : : : : : : ‘Identity verified,” said the computer. The back door leading to outside made a buzzing noise and click sound. A second later, the door leading out of the holding room opened. : : : : : :  : : : : : : “Welcome to the Federation Embassy,” chirped the computer. : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : =^=Computer.....How many life signs are in this compound?=^= The Fleet Captain called out. Ryder felt a little uneasy. Whether it was from Carisi’s hard stare, or that they could be walking into a trap, he didn’t know. : : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : : Lawrence : : : : : : : : Intel : : : : : :  : : : : : : With Lawrence asking the computer the question outside of the holding room, the computer replied, “All personnel have been evacuated for safety precautions. Data replication to Memory Alpha and Starfleet HQ occurred before compound lockdown. There are no lifesigns currently within the building.” : : : : : :  : : : : : : : While she may not know the exact reason for Paris’ stare at Ryder, the fact that glare was the way it was eased Seph’s mind a bit. It meant her feeling ‘uneasy’ wasn’t just her own paranoia. When Ryder called out the query, she crossed her arms and waited to see what she was being dragged into next. : : : : : : :  : : : : : : : Lt Seph Milestone : : : : : : : CSO : : : : : :  : : : : : : GM : : : : :  : : : :  : : : : “I’m confused,” Paris said in a low tone to Ryder. “Are we stealth here or trying to make sure everyone knows we have arrived? You know the computer will create a log of us being here right?” : : : :  : : : : Lt. Commander Paris Carisi, COS : : : :  : : : : : “I wanna see if we have access to the security footage.” Ryder said as he began walking into the next room. “If we know what exactly happened, then we can plan our next move.” The Intel Officer also wanted a reason to go out and look for the missing agents, with or without Carisi’s help.  : : : : :  : : : : : “Any logs would be useful as well…” The Fleet Captain added.  : : : : :  : : : : : Lawrence : : : : : Intel : : : :  : : : : Past the doors, they entered into a wide open space. The architecture was very much like the style back on Earth. They could see various offices and a lift in the distance. The compound was built like any other Federation government building, just oddly with the extra security precautions. They had view of the gloomy outside thanks to the large glass windows. Carisi could tell that those windows were also security reenforced, but to any other non security minded person, they wouldn’t be able to tell. Also in the distance near the lift was a display showing a map of the compound. They would discover that the Ambassador’s office would be the highest office in the embassy. Obviously, while the embassy had Federation designs, there were small elements that were influenced by Ferengi culture. : : : :  : : : : GM : : :  : : : Seph followed the others as they went deeper into the building. She still wasn’t exactly sure why Lawrence had wanted ‘her’ there, but she would play along till her conscience, or someone with a bigger phaser, stepped up to tell her it was time to go. : : :  : : : She didn’t notice things that were security based. Windows, locks, nothing caught her eye except the layout and the consoles. As a scientist, things like ‘interaction’ and ‘accessibility’ were things that did pique her interest. In a place like this, she had expected a more open floor plan. Seeing the lift across the floor, and a map beside it, she didn’t wait for the others but strolled towards it to see where the Ambassador’s office was. If that was their goal, then that’s where she needed to be. The sooner they were done, the sooner she could get back to the ship. : : :  : : : “Paris… looks like top floor.” She noticed the location and glanced back at her friend and the Intel Officer. : : :  : : : Lt Seph Milestone : : : CSO : :  : Paris nodded and looked around. The place looked like a bunker more than a diplomatic building which was a bit odd considering this was an embassy and supposed to give feelings of reassurance and trust. The more than reinforced windows and isloated rooms instead of a vast oppulent space had her spidey sense tingling. “So up we go then,” Paris said walking over to Seph.  :  : Lt. Paris Carisi, Cos : Ryder watched the two as they began their ascent. The Fleet Captain followed closely behind, but could tell they were beginning to get weary about him. The Intel Officer was wondering if he should include the Science Chief on the classified mission, but didn’t know how the Admiral would react if he did so.  : “Try not to touch anything just yet…” Ryder called out to the pair in front of him.  : Lawrence
With her back to him, Seph allowed herself to frown slightly. She answered the man without turning back, but managed to keep her voice neutral. “Since I have no idea what we’re here for, and I’m a scientist, not an office worker, I can’t think of anything I would need to touch. No worries, Sir.”
As they went up, Seph started to bite her lip. She glanced out of the corner of her eye at Paris and tried to decide if she should say anything. Just before reaching the door to the floor they were to go on, she turned suddenly bold and turned to face Lawrence. “Why am I here, Sir? I am no security style body guard, nor am I one to decipher languages, or coding. You bring us here to ‘search’ for someone, but there is no one here. We are supposed to be ‘quiet’ about our approach yet the security system and your boldness downstairs make it otherwise.”
Now that she was talking, she was not just bold, but upset. Without realizing it, she had crossed her arms over her chest. “What exactly am I supposed to be ‘looking for’ but ‘not touching’?” She made sure she ‘didn’t’ look at Paris as this point. Her roommate would probably be shocked at her reaction. She wasn’t normally one to question, and less likely to confront. She had no idea, even now, what had made her so bold. The only thing she could think of was fear.

“Overthinking are we, Lieutenant?” The Fleet Captain asked before shooting the Security Chief a look.

“You haven’t spoken about our mission, have you Commander?” Ryder asked as he stepped forward to open the door. He had a deadline to meet, and he couldn’t let a pouting Lieutenant get in the way.

Before Paris could respond, Seph dropped her hands and shook her head as she stepped aside for Ryder to open the door. “She hasn’t said anything. You said we were coming to find someone. And it’s not hard to deduce you are looking for someone who is either missing or doesn’t want to be found. If you knew where they were, hearing the building is empty would have made you change locations. And if they weren’t missing, you would simply have gone to see them. You tell me we have to be careful, yet we are expected here to the point that we are ‘in the security files’ in a place ‘I’ve’ never been. Then you say ‘don’t touch anything’ like either I am a child and prone to prodding, or you don’t want anyone to know we were here.”

As the door opened, her voice softened so the ‘edge’ wasn’t there and she shook her head. “I just don’t know why you brought me to do something you can’t or won’t explain but apparently I am more qualified to do than Paris. Again, deduction because were it otherwise, she would have been sufficient for your mission here.” She honestly had no clue what was going on, but she was a scientist and deductions, puzzles, anomalies… those were her air and water. Someone purposefully keeping her in the dark merely made her want to squint to try harder to see what was there.

Persephone

Paris clapped her hands sarcastically a few times. God I love you Seph, she thought trying to hide a smirk. That was the problem with clandestine missions like this where people did not have enough information. Paris was actually really interested in hearing Ryder’s reply. Except for knowing they were supposed to find a few wandering and lost Starfleet officers, Persephone asked all the same questions Paris had in her office a few hours back. Her happy go lucky nature was what initially drew Paris to Seph, that and the fact they shared a room for a period of time. Her honesty and integrity, however, was what Paris realized made her admire her friend so. “and for the record,” Paris said with a hint of a smile, “you do run circles around me with the scientific mumbo jumbo…but that is it. I am far superior in just about everything else.” The comment was meant to be both praise, a bit of teasing, and a show of solidarity to her friend. Paris would follow orders and obey any command from Ryder unless it involved being detrimental to her friend. Paris hoped Seph could read between the lines of her last sentence and know it silently meant she would have Seph’s back before covering some strangers.

Lt. Commander Paris Carisi, CoS

Ryder looked from both Paris to Peresphone, then crossed his arms. He was slightly stunned at both their responses, but knew he wasn’t going to accomplish the mission if he didn’t inform the Science Officer. Afterall, he would need her help. Frederics would have Ryder’s head on a silver platter if he revealed the mission, but she couldn’t touch Commander Carisi.

“Tell her.....” The Fleet Captain said, turning to the Security Chief.

Lawrence

Seph laughed and rolled her eyes. This was a common battle between her and Paris. But in Paris saying it, it comforted Seph and calmed her slightly. Had Paris been upset at her, that would have been different.
When Lawrence nodded at Paris to tell the scientist what was happening, it actually surprised Persephone. “Thank you,” she nodded to Lawrence. “You have my confidence, I swear it.”

Obviously it was a trust issue that had been keeping the third wheel in the dark. Whether it was Lawrence’s trust in her, it someone else’s, she didn’t know. But she’d definitely do better if she knew what was going on.

“Oh you mean the minimal amount you told me,” Paris said a bit sarcastically. Part of it was to lighten the tension of the situation but the other part was to let Seph knew Paris wasn’t holding anything back. “So we are looking for some lost officers off the record. The away team with Commander Black does not know we are down here nor what our mission is. We are to find the missing officers and return the ship and act like nothing happened. Now where they are I have no idea. That is all Ryder,” Paris said as the turbo came to a stop. “Fifth floor, music, ladies outerwear and a clue to finding our lost sheep,” Paris quipped as the doors opened.

Lt. Commander Paris Carisi, CoS

“If I had any idea where they were..... we’d be there already…” The Fleet Captain immediately shot back. Ryder stepped out of the lift once the doors opened and looked around. From his view, it didn’t appear as if anything was out of the ordinary. He did wait, however, for the two ladies to continue their verbal onslaught.
