Paris clapped her hands sarcastically a few times. God I love you Seph, she thought trying to hide a smirk. That was the problem with clandestine missions like this where people did not have enough information. Paris was actually really interested in hearing Ryder’s reply. Except for knowing they were supposed to find a few wandering and lost Starfleet officers, Persephone asked all the same questions Paris had in her office a few hours back. Her happy go lucky nature was what initially drew Paris to Seph, that and the fact they shared a room for a period of time. Her honesty and integrity, however, was what Paris realized made her admire her friend so. “and for the record,” Paris said with a hint of a smile, “you do run circles around me with the scientific mumbo jumbo…but that is it. I am far superior in just about everything else.” The comment was meant to be both praise, a bit of teasing, and a show of solidarity to her friend. Paris would follow orders and obey any command from Ryder unless it involved being detrimental to her friend. Paris hoped Seph could read between the lines of her last sentence and know it silently meant she would have Seph’s back before covering some strangers.

Lt. Commander Paris Carisi, CoS

Ryder looked from both Paris to Peresphone, then crossed his arms. He was slightly stunned at both their responses, but knew he wasn’t going to accomplish the mission if he didn’t inform the Science Officer. Afterall, he would need her help. Frederics would have Ryder’s head on a silver platter if he revealed the mission, but she couldn’t touch Commander Carisi.

“Tell her.....” The Fleet Captain said, turning to the Security Chief.

Lawrence

Seph laughed and rolled her eyes. This was a common battle between her and Paris. But in Paris saying it, it comforted Seph and calmed her slightly. Had Paris been upset at her, that would have been different.
When Lawrence nodded at Paris to tell the scientist what was happening, it actually surprised Persephone. “Thank you,” she nodded to Lawrence. “You have my confidence, I swear it.”

Obviously it was a trust issue that had been keeping the third wheel in the dark. Whether it was Lawrence’s trust in her, it someone else’s, she didn’t know. But she’d definitely do better if she knew what was going on.

“Oh you mean the minimal amount you told me,” Paris said a bit sarcastically. Part of it was to lighten the tension of the situation but the other part was to let Seph knew Paris wasn’t holding anything back. “So we are looking for some lost officers off the record. The away team with Commander Black does not know we are down here nor what our mission is. We are to find the missing officers and return the ship and act like nothing happened. Now where they are I have no idea. That is all Ryder,” Paris said as the turbo came to a stop. “Fifth floor, music, ladies outerwear and a clue to finding our lost sheep,” Paris quipped as the doors opened.

Lt. Commander Paris Carisi, CoS

“If I had any idea where they were..... we’d be there already…” The Fleet Captain immediately shot back. Ryder stepped out of the lift once the doors opened and looked around. From his view, it didn’t appear as if anything was out of the ordinary. He did wait, however, for the two ladies to continue their verbal onslaught.

Lawrence

OOC: Just for clarification, Lawrence’s “side” mission from Admiral Frederic should be noted as not the priority mission. Lawrence should still be able to describe finding the Ambassador as the priority mission.

IC:

Though the embassy had a security like feeling to it, it was certainly decorated in opulently. One could only summarize the oddness and conflicting nature of it.

Once they arrived at the main office to the Ambassador at the top floor, they used their security codes to unseal the office. The computer had an indication on where the missing Ambassador was last located. There was a detail history of the embassy in the computer, and for anyone security minded, would discover since the embassy’s establishment, robbery of the embassy had happened multiple times. Detail notes indicate that in order for the embassy to operate, sufficient gold press latinum was required to be used and stored at the embassy – leading to a high-security secure vault within the embassy. Being that the Federation didn’t deal with currency usually, it was one of those cultural shifts that required a new way of thinking – or rather old way of thinking from humanity’s past.

No record of the two missing officers were located on file unfortunately. Lawrence had the option to temporarily assume the position of Ambassador and re-open the embassy if he wished, and try to use the embassy’s resources to get the current Ambassador who had gone into hiding. There was a detailed record of Embassy personnel, any of which Lawrence could contact and ask to help too.

GM

Seph listened to them describe what was going on and then followed them to the Ambassador’s office.

She was no good with the computer but once they were in, she listened the half murmurs of the other two as they went back and forth about the missing men. As Seph heard them both growl about the lack of information on the two missing crewmen, she frowned and leaned her hip on the desk. “I’m curious. We have two missing crewmen, but this is the place you came to look for them? Why an abandoned building on a planet full of people?” This time she looked straight at Lawrence. “What is it that made you come here as your first stop to look for the missing crewmen?”

She was looking intently at him. It wasn’t an accusatory tone that filled her voice, but a thought provoking one. What was his thought process behind ‘this’ choice? She was a scientist. She wanted to know how he was approaching this so she could either follow the path a little faster, or think of a completely different one to follow.

If Paris was listening, she would certainly recognize the tone of Seph as it shifted. Her old roommate often used that voice when trying to get Paris to think out a problem, or remember where she had left something she was missing.

Persephone

The Fleet Captain paused in his tracks for the moment and turned to face the pair. “That’s because I won’t be searching for the two missing agents” He said with a smile, “You two will, as at this moment, I’ve been declared acting Ambassador to Ferenginar.” Ryder hated surprises, and knew that the two would want to murder him after breaking the news to them. The Intel (now Ambassador) had little to no choice, but he was aware that Paris and Persephone had what it took to find the two missing officers.

Lawrence

“Whoa whoa whoa back the bus up,” Paris said staring at Ryder. “You dragged us down here to do a job with minimal information and now you are leaving us!” It was not that Paris needed or wanted Ryder to stick around. She and Seph were more than capable of finding two lost sheep from the Starfleet flock. What had set her off was him keeping them in the dark. “At least this explains why we were able to waltz in here like nobody’s business. Can you at least give us ambassadorial access to the computer system and the names and last known location of the two people we are looking for oh grand pooh bah,” she said a bit snidely.

The shock on Seph’s face couldn’t have been more evident if she had announced it. Suddenly things clicked and began to make sense. No wonder the man had override authority in the strange building on another planet. ‘Perfect sense… rrriiiggghhhhhhttttt’ her brain groaned. If Paris hadn’t been so shocked, she would have accused her friend of being in on it.

She let Paris get out the main thoughts they both had, then had to add her own two cents. “Wait… did you become the Ambassador to find the missing men? Or did the missing men happen after your ‘appointment’? And why isn’t our own security looking into the missing crewmen? I mean, there would be transporter logs if they had left the ship, and comm badge tracing till then even if they ditched them on the surface. And there is also everyone’s stored biometrics in the computer banks to help them be located in a crowd… so why can’t you find them without all the mystery and histrionics?”

Whatever else was happening, there was far more to this than simple missing crewmen. Her other question was, was D’Vash aware of what he had sent her into?

Ryder sighed. He knew being in Intelligence was difficult at times, but it wasn’t anything near as difficult as being ambushed by two hot headed women…

“I was given Ambassador status from the Federation, once it became apparent that doing so could help me find the missing Ambassador.” The Fleet Captain stated as he watched the reaction the two officers were having. “Obviously, I couldn’t tell them no, knowing I had an intel mission to run.” Lawrence added. He could already feel Admiral Frederic’s hard stare on the back of his head, but knew it was all in his mind.

“But now, we have two missing people down here that need to be found, on top of the missing Ambassador.”

Lawrence

Seph took a deep breath. NOW things were beginning to make sense. “So… you were promoted, so you could find the missing citizens, and realized the promotion would help with your first assignment, to find the Ambassador… well that makes sense. As Ambassador, that explains your security interaction and how we were recognized. You would have made sure we were cleared to be with you on this side so it wouldn’t raise red flags.” She shook her head and gave a half hearted laugh. “And no one knows anything but the two of us… how convenient.”

OOC: And they aren’t listed as officers, per say. If anything, they’d be listed as Federation citizens. Regardless, they would check in with the Embassy at least, or at least the computer would have them on file.

GM

“So you are going to give it back. The promotion I mean once we find the ambassador,” Paris looked at Ryder. While she trusted the man that was her former captain, this situation was getting weirder and weirder. She did not think Ryder had anything to do with the disappearance of the men but he did gain from their absence. With the hush hush nature of this mission, anything could happen to her and Seph and no one would have anything other than the official report of the story.

“Seph,” Paris said still looking at Ryder as she spoke For some reason she felt the need to keep eyes on Ryder and not turn her back to him. “See if the computer has any record of the men checking in with the embassy. Federation citizens would have to some record of coming here since they are not Ferengi citizens. If we get the location where they appeared on the planet it might help us in tracking them down.”

Lt. Commander Paris Carisi, COS

Seph understood Paris’ concern. “Don’t worry about his promotion, Risi…” the old nickname slipping unconsciously from her tongue. “But you are right, if they came down in shuttle or transported, they would have to have left record somewhere.”

Stepping to the closest console, she smiled a little softer at Lawrence. While she didn’t excuse his actions, she was starting to understand his reasoning. Trying to be covert AND get help at the same time was something that was probably on par with trying to keep an experiment from exploding in your face when you had no idea what was in the petri dish.

A moment later, she was tapping thru basic records. She was trying to stay out of sensitive or restricted files. She went thru visitor logs and those with Earth as their home world, first. Lawrence had said ‘Federation Citizens’ and that was a large mixture of varied species. But Earth seemed the best place to start. But in her search, she had also left it open to ‘all visitors’ in the last 3 months.

The list was large, as plenty of business was conducted on Ferenginar, though the citizens that would be unusual would be low ranking Federation officials, and any non-merchants. That narrowed the list down to a handful of names. About 20. Only 5 pairs were traveling together, which narrowed the list further. But thinking like a covert operative, they checked any of the remaining 10 went to the same location. That turned up 4 more people, only narrowing down to 14 people and 7 locations to check out.

GM

“OK,” Seph said after several minutes and some rather colorful mumbled breaths while trying to get the foreign console to obey her commands. “So, after narrowing down an entire planet worth of visitors,” she laughed and turned to face Lawrence, “I have it narrowed down to 14 people and 7 possible locations.” She grabbed up the nearby padd, typed a couple commands and rose to bring it to him. “These are the ones that didn’t fit the basic parameters of elimination. Now, that being said, if you can help narrow it down, maybe we can make this a bit easier.” She showed the list to him and smiled at Paris with a quick wink.

Paris gave her friend a smirk. This was the exact reason she loved Seph. From the first day the two had met her friend had always loved to solve problems. From closet space to finding lost objects on the ship, Seph was the smart one. Like Velma from the old Scooby Doo cartoons, Paris loved as a kid. Seph would attack any problem until it was solved just like now. “Let me see that list,” Paris said looking at it.

Lt. Commander Paris Carisi, COS

“Look, Sir. I am sorry I lost my temper. But being a scientist doesn’t mean I ‘enjoy’ the unknown to the point of not wanting to know what I’m being talked into or used for.” She turned to set her backside against he nearest desk. “I give you my word, if you will tell me what we are doing and how I can actually BE of any help, I will do my utmost to play ignorant and upset at being left in the dark if I am questioned… Deal?” She looked at him with a slight smile. It wasn’t condescending or even malicious. She was trying to let him know, in her own way, that she understood HIS position. But also that she couldn’t be of any help if only crumbs and veiled hints were fed to her.

Ryder sighed. “Look, I was a Starfleet Captain once.” He said, looking over at the Security Chief. “So I understand how horrible in feels to be left in the dark.” The Fleet Captain looked over the PaDD for a second, he didn’t recognize any of the names.

“Can you see if any of these people brought some unique equipment with them?” He asked. Those working in an intel capacity always carried some sort of equipment that was going to help them with their cause. These agents could be tracked down even further if the computer knew what kinds of items were brought into the compound.
