The Captain, after being worked on, was still recovering in Sickbay. Jevek had been broad on board, and his wound was treated, along with the internal injuries. Jevek was very much feeling better, due to his Vulcan physiology, but the doctors insisted for him not move. It was by luck that both he and the Captain were in adjacent biobeds, and neither were that seriously injured enough from conversing.

“Captain Simon Starr, I am Commander Jevek. Starfleet Command has assigned me as your Second Officer, sir,” replied Jevek.

Simon’s recovery was also going well. The Dermal regenerator had just finished humming over his legs when Jevek arrived, but the doctors insisted he stay for monitoring for a few hours, at least until power was returned. “A pleasure, Commander,” he said without getting up from the biobed. “This is probably the most unique meeting of a new crew member I’ve ever had,” he said with a chuckle. “So, tell me about yourself Jevek. How was your previous assignment?”

Captain Simon Starr, CO

“An adequate one, Captain,” replied the Vulcan, “I have served in Starfleet for most of my adult life, as have two generations of my family. We all found Starfleet’s pursuit towards peaceful exploration a logical one. I should note that I was sent here to discover what happened to Asimov. Sensor probes would return back no data, so I was sent along in a shuttle with an Ensign who died upon the impact of the shuttle. The USS Novak, a Discovery-class vessel outfitted with the Advanced Science Mission Module, is observing the anomaly now.”

Simon thought for a moment. “If we can get communications open with them somehow, that might be a good start,” he said with his eyes resting shut. Starr always found it easy to relax on the biobeds. It wasn’t the case for everyone, but he didn’t have the same attitude than some of the other officers he had met in his time when it came to coming to sickbay. The doctors were there for a reason, after all.

“They are still on the other side, right?” he asked Jevek, his eyes still resting.

“That would be the logical assumption, however without knowing the exact affects of the anomaly, they would only remain so long unless they had confirmation. Logically, they would probably avoid sending another shuttlecraft until they know more. The shuttle was in an active communications link with Novak until it entered the anomaly, and presumably, the Novak should have a better understanding of the anomaly now. Given its location in Federation space, it is logical to conclude that the Novak would be the best equipped to study the anomaly for the time being.”
