Lieutenant Junior Grade Avlyn was assigned to the Asimov, and had arrived to the Starbase per her orders. But upon arriving, she discovered that the delays getting to the Starbase resulted her in missing Commander Jevek, who was assigned as the second officer to the ship. Jevek had also missed the Asimov before its initial shakedown cruise departure, but was informed that the Asimov was missing, and had gone on the USS Novak commanded by Captain Starr to find the Asimov. Starfleet’s current orders were to have Avlyn stay on the Starbase until further notice, but the quartermaster could not assign her quarters due to the fact she arrived during a trade conference, and quarters were simply just not available for at the moment.

While the good counselor had sat somewhere to ponder her situation…

Somewhere on the world the Asimov crashed, on the evening of the third day, a magical ritual was happening and had been occurring for many days. 6 robed figures with long beards stood on 6 points of a hexagram. Each robed figured was dressed similarly but their robe colors were different. All six held long staffs with either round gem or round crystal on their ends of their staffs, and all of them were colored according the same to each person’s robe color. The six colors were red, yellow, blue, green, white and black.

The red robed figure represented fire, the yellow robed figure represented earth, the blue robed figure represented water, the green robed figure represented wind, the white robed figure represented light, and the black robed figure represented dark. Each figure stood opposite of what was considered magic that would likely neutralize the other: light and dark, water and fire, earth and wind. The white robed figure stood at the most northern part of the hexagram, which was aligned to the planet’s cardinal north pole. From a clockwise position, the order was light, wind, water, dark, earth, and fire.

These robed figures had been standing and chanting for nearly 40 hours now, with their assistants helping them and even injecting their own power into the arcane hexagram. They were at the verge of collapsing, and tired beyond their years. But this was all in order to summon a hero from another world, one that could save them from the evil that threatened to destroy their world. That evil was a malicious evil demon king who wanted nothing but to rule the entire world.

A hero summoning was something that required enormous amounts of magic, time and patience. It was also incredibly risky, and the magic on how it chose a person was entirely random. It could be from any person from any universe at any point in time. The magic that the 6 robed figures that they needed beyond their natural sources were stored in crystalized form, and had been placed either on them or near them or in the hexagram. The crystals themselves were also colored according to the type of magic they wielded.

More often than not, a hero summoning allowed that person to gain powers that they wouldn’t have access to and abilities that weren’t available to normal people of this world. Heroes of this world gained magical ability to be specialized in all types of magic, not just one or two attributes like most people of this world. They also gained experience through killing monsters and performing tasks, which leveled their stats such as magical ability. Things like a dimensional item storage, which could store items a large amount of items based on the user’s magical ability, and had the ability to freeze an object’s state – so putting a cooked dish, for example, would allow the user access to have said cooked dish as if it was just cooked.

These abilities were just inherit properties of the universe that this world was in, and simply unique because its natural laws operated slightly differently from most other universes. This hero summoning was done in a nation of “beastmen” – humans who had beast like appearances, and could transform into full beasts if they were skilled enough. Their natural state is half beast, half human, that looked fairly natural. (Think: Cat person)

The nation was called the United People’s Kingdom of Aragna, ruled equally by King Aragna the 5th, and Queen Ellistoria. Aragna had a balanced population between beastmen, elves, dwarves and humans. There were other minor races, but they were treated fairly. The nation’s capital was merely 50 kilometers from the Asimov’s crash site, where the hero summoning took place. Aragna had a very handsome Beastman prince who had cat like appearances, and a very handsome princess, who was very human in appearance.

The summoning was taken place deep in the heart of the castle, deep underground, for reasons known to the robed figures. It was in that moment, Lieutenant Junior Grade Avlyn appeared in the summoning circle – as the summoned hero!

She blinked as her vision cleared and she twitched her ears, rubbed her oaws into her eyes and expected to see the starbase come back into focus from the…day dream, hallucination whatever this was. It didn’t come back into view. In fact her view was entirely different than what she expected.

Avlyvn would notice that she had a status window, much like a game, and a help menu which explained things about this world as if it were a game… but these were part of the summoning spell to help heroes transition to the world, and to use the specialized tools that were available to them, such as magic and the aforementioned legendary inventory box. Of course, anyone from Starfleet would likely whisper, “Computer, program off” or “Computer, arch” or “Computer, freeze program” but would find out that this was not the holodeck or anything they were captured.

Her fur stood on end slightly, tail fkickering as she looked around. Her mouth had gone dry she realised and she did the only thing she could think of. She closed her eyes and said in a somewhat, forcefully hopeful tone ”Computer…end program.”

Avie

Nothing happened. One of the mages spoke, and thanks to the universal translator in her commbadge, translated the language for her.

“Do not be alarmed, great hero! You are in the Capital City Adenatin, in the nation United People’s Kingdom of Aragna. Great hero, we have summoned you here in hopes that you help save our world!”

GM

Avie opened her eyes and sucked in a small breath, a gasping sound that turn on woohoo air onwards rather than words. She blinked at the speaker and warily flicked her tail as she watched him. All of her diplomatic training, her counselling training…it was all for nothing because in that instant when it would be useful her response was not that of a trained articulate person.

“say whhhat?!” She asked looking around. “What is this…where am I…who are you? How did I get here…” all of the questions came out of her at once.

Avie

“This is another world, honored great hero. I am the great white mage Arlack Istrea. We used spatial temporal summoning magic to summon you here. We apologize if it was against your will but unfortunately, we have no control of who the summoning magic picks from a different world and/or universe,” replied the mage in white robes, “Our great King Aragna the 5th and our great Queen Ellistoria ordered us to summon a great hero to save our kingdom, and that is why you are here.”

I’m: Avie looked utterly shocked and more than a bit concerned at the situation, as the mage spoke this expression solidified into an open mouthed confusion.

“ This…is a joke right?” she asked looking around her again. “ You must be a hallucination…maybe a repressed desire to be center of attention. It’s hard growing up with a lot of litter mates…or maybe because I was passed over for that promotion maybe the cardassiansnattacked....i could have fallen and hit my head and this is a result of massive internal trauma to my brain…”

“Rest assured, you are not going crazy and this is not a hallucination, honored great hero,” replied the mage.

He turned, her vibrant green eyes fixed on the mage who had spoken. “Magic? Did you just say you used magic to bring me here?”

“Yes, that is correct, honored great hero. I have been told that summoned heroes seem to have access to a great magic system called ‘status’ which gives them access to their abilities, and a help system that accommodates it. I’ve been told that the magic is something only that heroes can access and only the individual can see it. Apparently, it is a result of the summoning spell,” replied the mage. “We have spent the last 3 days in this summoning ritual, at a great cost to our strength… we are extremely tired and hungry. I have sent a page to summon our Prince and Princess who will be here to answer any other questions shortly, but I must apologize dear great honored hero, we do not have the means to send you back. Though legend says that summoned heroes, when they accomplish their intended purpose of summoning, their status magic gives them the option to return.”

“Great hero…stop calling me that…” the caitian all but wailed then as if an electric shock went through her she stood upright, her fur on end.

“But it’s tradition…”

“Wait what you mean I’m stuck here!” She yelped.

It was at that moment, the very handsome Beastman prince who had cat like appearances, and a very handsome princess, who was very human in appearance, showed up. “Ah, honored great white mage Arlack Istrea,” said the Prince, who had a very melodious voice, “Thank you for your great work. You and the rest of the mage counsel should recuperate. A great feast has already been prepared for you, and the serving staff have readied your quarters immediately.”

“Thank you, Prince Alstor.” With that, the mages left the room.

“Great honored hero, I am Prince Alstor Aragna. This is my sister,” said the Prince.

” Princess Selna Ellistoria, at your service, great honored hero,” said the Princess, “We are here to answer your questions, you’ll forgive our mage council as they are greatly weakened from the summoning ritual.”

GM

Avie blinked at them both he looked like…but he couldn’t be. She pulled her pony tail over her shoulder and stroked it frantically, clearly in panic, her tail swishing. “You’ve got the wrong girl…I’m not a hero…I’m just a counsellor…a junior counsellor ! I don’t ever have my own office I co shared with one of the senior counsellors!”

Avie

“While I understand your concern,” said the Princess, “The magic picks someone at random from a random world at a random time and place, at least that is what is historically documented. We don’t fully understand how someone is chosen, just that it happens. The magic imbues the person who is brought here, with the skills needed to become a hero. If it were possible to summon one of our own, we would. We feel terrible that we have to resort to such measures, but unfortunately, we are desperate.”

GM

Calming slightly as her training kicked in Avie considered the princess’s words. “Why are you desperate. Why do you need a hero?” she asked with the tone of one who is integrated but wonders if she will think better of such interest when she finds out the answer.

“A great evil wizard used his magic to reincarnate an evil demon king who has the power to gather a collection of evil monsters, demons and the like. It is said in legend, he has the power to turn monsters evil. For thousands of years, we have lived peacefully, and we were even able to make friends with the majority of humanoid monsters. But this evil demon king has the power to charm them and turn them to their ancient and dangerous ways. He only cares to cover the world in darkness under his rule,” said the Prince.

Avie listened and frowning tried to make sense of what he was saying. “Waaaiiiiitt hope up. You’re not making sense. Monsters?!” she looked panicked. “What do you expect me to do ?”

Avie

“Yes, monsters. The powers granted to you from the summoning ritual allows you to gain experience and grow strong. There should be some kind of interface you can interact with to access more information but its secrets are only available to heroes. Any historical record we have about that has been lost to time, unfortunately,” replied the Prince, “We have variety of weapons you can try to see which one you are most comfortable with to see which one you want to primarily use. Are you hungry or thirsty?”

OOC: Bump, bump. (I’m reminded of the Disney Cartoon from 1956 called “In The Bag” where they had a song with the words ‘Bump, bump.’)

The Prince and Princess watched in great alarm as the Counselor fainted. The two rushed over, saying, “Great Hero! Great Hero!”

“Quick, get her to a bed and fetch the court physician!” said the Prince. The counselor was then whisked away to a private room, and the court physician was summoned. When the physician examined her, the good female doctor found nothing wrong. “Your highnesses, she has fainted, that is all. Slight exhaustion, it seems, no doubly after effects of the summoning,” the doctor proudly declared, to the much relief to the Prince and Princess. The two left their heroine to rest, and instructed the attendants to watch over the Counselor and notify the crown once she had awoken again.
