Sickbay - Ensign Hicks Boarding Physical

Posted by Ensign Tamara Hicks (Engineer) in Sickbay - Ensign Hicks Boarding Physical
Tamara’s first stop after dropping her travel bag off at her quarters was to sickbay to get the preliminary checkup out of the way. Every time she’d join a new ship the most frustrating thing was having to deal with the ship’s doctor. Mainly because Tamara didn’t care for doctors and their constant scanning and hyposprays. Hence she got all that out of the way almost immediately. She wasn’t one to put unpleasant things off for as long as possible. She got it taken care off as soon as possible.

So she fidgeted on the examination bed, eager to get this done so she could head to engineering and introduce herself to her new department head and new coworkers. Letting out a sigh as she waited. “Can we hurry up and get this done? I have things to do.”

The nurse snapped back and said, “The ship is new, Ensign, wait your turn.”

She was given a clean bill of health and she went to see the Chief Engineer. The ship undocked, and left for its shakedown. She remembered briefly meeting a senior engineer in Engineering, who asked for help in the Cargo Bay.

OOC: We’re going to assume this was before the crash and treat this as a flashback, and write in several sections here to fast forward to you to the present.

IC:

That’s what Ensign Hicks could last remember as she finally awoke from the crash nearly a half day after the crash. Pain from her leg told it was injured, and her stomach had been the principle factor to wake her. She was unfortunately pinned down… in the cargo bay. Luckily, one of the cargo containers that was open from the crash, had a packaging of food rations. Ensign Hicks was successful in reaching for them, and quiet down her hunger before passing out.

She awoke hours later, coughing, smelling smoke nearby. It was Cargo Bay 1 that was on fire. She was pinned down. Fortunately, as people tried to find things to put out the fire, she was discovered, and taken to Sickbay. There, she was treated for her injuries, with a makeshift old fashioned splint, and instructed not to put a lot of weight on her right leg for the next couple of days and to take it easy.

With the help of her crewmates, she made it to Engineering, and found her stuff… modifying commbadges for hours on end. The task was boring, and being that she had a bad leg, her mobility was limited. Another engineer decided to make makeshift beds in Engineering, in order to conserve some power.

As the days wore on, Ensign Hicks’ leg had healed… mostly. Her leg was stiff but at least there was no pain and no injury anymore. The doctors cleared her for medium duty, but asked to avoid any heavy lifting for the next week. She had helped construct solar panels, and a water wheel generator. She found herself finally outside the ship after 5 days. Engineering crews had constructed a water based shower and recycler which used less electricity than a sonic one… although, the water was only temperate. Soap had been replicated and the water was recycled for re-use… but most of the crew didn’t feel that clean, and those who weren’t injured badly were allowed to bath in the river that was found, after medical and science had determined it was safe to do so, and designated a spot for it.

She was outside the ship early enough before Engineering had to assemble to inspect the outside of the ship, and had enough time to take a bath, if she wanted. She spotted several security officers walking towards the bathing area.
