OOC: Please feel free to void this. I know I’m ridiculously AWOL, and my AWOL is part of why the Azzy can’t receive new crew as of late. I’m trying to rectify this, and to move the plot along. Sorry about, well, everything. Anyway…

IC:
Following the briefing with the Captain, Solit had come to the conclusion that they didn’t have enough information regarding where to go once they left the planet, no matter how long they looked at the available data. Following a little bit of fact finding with the crew members who had visited the village before, he decided that he would be better off simply covering his entire body. Thus, he was in what was basically metal armor, albeit it had been hastily fashioned and was formed using some 24th century technology, not a forge. As such, it probably wouldn’t hold up in actual combat, but as far as aesthetics, it was functional. It was a somewhat matte gray.

He had a full robe with tight-fitting sleeves, a hood, and bifurcated leggings underneath the skirt. He also wore black gloves. Over this were a full helmet with a single-piece face plate that only had eye holes and some holes poked for airflow around the mouth, greaves, wrist-and-knuckle gauntlets, and a breastplate with rows of Starfleet deltas stamped into the ridges for just a bit of flair. He had a belt, bit it only held a couple of hammers, a seven-inch knife, and a couple of satchels. He also had a satchel slung across his back. Overall, he stood out, but Commander Idari hoped it was for the right reasons.

He pulled a map out of the satchel, trying to determine where he should go to acquire a complete star chart for the planet’s orbital pattern, as well as any written legends regarding burning objects falling from the sky and into either the ocean or the surrounding area.

(Commander Idari, CSO(?))

OOC: While I appreciate your enthusiasm, with little power, Idari would have had to fashion that metal thing from pieces of the ship… Or pieces of the crashed shuttle. Engineering has to conserve power for plasma torches to use what they need. The previous away team used emergency blankets to make makeshift robes. So, I’m going to ask… How did you make all your equipment?

GM

OOC: Salvaged shuttle metals, hammers, and a handheld phaser for heat and cutting. I’m guessing that it was possible to replicate the hammers. Blankets for robes and gloves. Given Solit’s overall appearance, he probably wouldn’t be able to be mistaken for an elf, hence the whole body covering.

Nick

OOC: Well, I’ll allow it based on that explanation, but going to say you used up one phaser in the process.

IC:

Jevek arrived wearing one of the makeshift robes that the previous away team wore. “Fascinating,” remarked Jevek, “I am to assume that you only made one for yourself, Commander?”

“I am likely the only one who needed such equipment, as far as our current outing is concerned. The rest of you merely needed to obscure your uniforms.”

“Hardly, Commander, the away team reported a variety of diverse humanoids,” replied Jevek, “Though, concealing 24th century technology within that outfit might be easier to do so.”

Jevek brought the map the last away team had brought back. He carried a shoulder bag which the strap crossed his chest, and the back hung on the side of him. It looked like it was made out of leather, and potentially a personal belonging of the Commander.

Commander Jevek, 2O

Four more officers arrived, using the makeshift cloaks. They crossed body of water on the raft, leaving one officer to return back to the ship with the raft. Once the officer had made it safely across back, they tested the new commbadge EM radio mode, and discovered it was working properly, then continued to walk into town.

GM

Simon stepped off the boat, chuckling slightly at the irony of the fact the entire naval tradition included names of boats that extended to spaceships, and here they were on a boat on the water. It had been five days since they crashed, and it was the first time Simon actually got to stretch his legs and see this village that they were talking about.

Keeping an eye on the surrounding area, Starr got his bearings and looked for notable landmarks that he would be able to use for navigation later, and made his way toward the town following those who had already made the journey.

Captain Simon Starr, CO

Jevek brought out the map. “Where to first, sir? The map only gives a direct route to the magic shop, though curiosity, it has been expanding with additional details as we’ve approached the town. Fascinating,” said Jevek, “I believe the away team reported a blacksmith shop, the restaurant, and a marketplace. We might want to search for a jeweler’s shop or a trinket’s shop if it exists.”

Commander Jevek, 2O

One of the four other officers, Ensign Finnegan, stepped forward, cloak covering his uniform and the tricorder on his hip. “I’d like to see these crystals that were mentioned,” he said, looking to both Jevek and the captain. “At some point in the trip. We’d like to see if - potentially - they could help solve our power problem.”

He turned about, getting his bearings, ‘in case things went south,’ his dad would say. And also his survival instructors. Always know the way back, or the way out.

Finn, Eng

“I was going to go to the marketplace. If I can get a full star map instead of the partial maps we’ve been able to create between Zank’s information and our own observations, we may be able to fully determine whether we are still in the Milky Way Galaxy, or if we are truly in completely unknown space.”

(Commander Idari, CSO)

“The magic shop lies beyond the marketplace. We will have traverse through the marketplace to reach the magic shop,” said Jevek, as he pointed out on the map, “I believe, Ensign, before we can examine those crystals, we will likely have to purchase them. Did Engineering manage to replicate some valuable gemstones that we might be able to trade?”

Commander Jevek, 2O

Finn pulled the small pouch from beneath his cloak. “We did. Some diamonds, rubies and emeralds.” He began opening the pouch and digging through it. I know it’s in here…

“We should definitely get a look at the crystals, see what properties they have. As it’s on the way, the best place to start would be the marketplace,” Starr replied. “And it will be good to get a look at what they have available, if we’re going to be stranded for the long-term without power we’ll also need food,” he added. “Commander, if we can get that it would be brilliant but I have a feeling that such information may be limited from the reports. However getting a map of the area that isn’t this… vague,” he said gesturing to the map, “that would be as useful. Once we’ve browsed the markets, we’ll make our way to this ‘magic’ shop and see what’s going on there.”

Captain Simon Starr, CO

“The map seems to have unusual properties, Captain. It seems to be detailing itself as we discover areas,” replied Jevek, “though whether it is dependent on who is holding is not clear. It almost nearly functions as a tricorder’s readout of an area, since it seems to be able to shift and zoom much like an electronic map but it still feels very much like paper.”

Commander Jevek, 2O

“Captain, there is one of these gems that perhaps you should hold on to.” He produced the 25mm diamond from the pouch and held it out between his thumb and forefinger toward the captain. About half as deep as it was long, the diamond captured the light and sent it sparkling. “The others are much smaller, but this one…” The rest of the sentence seemed obvious.

Finn, Eng

“Might violate the Prime Directive,” said Jevek, in the Vulcan neutral matter-of-fact tone.

Commander Jevek, 2O

Finn arched an eyebrow, then looked to the sky as he thought. “You’re not wrong,” he responded. “This one could likely break the local economy - if we’re considering it as equivalent to a middle ages European economy. Yet more reason for you to be the one holding it, Captain.”

Finn, Eng

“Or attract unwanted attention from the nobility,” added Jevek, “Lt. Grant, Commander Solit, do you agree with the Ensign’s assessment that this diamond should be held for safekeeping?”

Commander Jevek, 2O

“I find it somewhat irresponsible to have a gemstone that large in our possession in the first place. If we have a way to send it and anything like it back to the Asimov before we attempt any purchases, we should do so,” Solit replied. “Hold on to the smaller stones that you’ve made - they can still be of use.”

Something came over the Captain, and he collapsed. Fortunately, they had not wandered too far from the shore, and the Captain was transported back to the ship via raft.

GM

The captain’s sudden collapse surprised Finn, but he managed to catch him, He and another of the crew carried him to the raft, the other crewmember volunteering to return with the captain and the come back with the raft. Finn handed the diamond to the ensign wrapped in a piece of cloth and told him to return it to Lieutenant Si’Rek.

“A moment, Ensign. The first away team reported that the restaurant was based on 20th century Earth. Logic dictates that they would be using local currency to sell their food. Ensign Finn, Earth’s culture in the 20th century was still a currency based society. The away team did report signs of local currency, did they not?” asked Jevek.

Finn watched the raft off and then returned to the remaining crew. What is this wretched place? he wondered, but shook himself before he could go further down that line. “I think we should minimize our time here,” he recommended. “I can continue on to the magic shop once we reach the marketplace, and meet you back there.”

Finn, Eng

“I shall join Ensign Finn,” said Jevek, “But we should secure funds first.”

“Feel free. Spare me… well, if you’ve replicated any small sapphires that are obviously sapphires, I think about twenty should suffice for my purposes,” Commander Idari said, looking for a coin purse in his satchel. “If nothing else, I might be able to get a sample of the herb that they also use as currency in exchange for whatever excess of cost I might incur.”

(Commander Idari, CSO)

“We’ll split the gemstones equally, Commander. It should increase our chances to obtain local currency,” replied Jevek.

“Take Ensign Sam (NE) and Lt. Grant with you, Commander. If we are due to split up, we should not travel alone at least.”

Commander Jevek, 2O

Finn paused, looking at the commander. “I… thought the magic crystals were in this town not the restaurant?” He could be wrong; there had been a lot of strange information. And getting some of the local herb-currency would be helpful even so.

“Correct, Ensign. Logically, the only explanation that the restaurant was able to provide meals to the first away team is because of the gold based currency. Gold was extremely valuable in 2016. That means that the restaurant is well making more than a profit for any food it sells. Logic dictates that a restaurant owner seeking to convert said gold coins into yen would have some kind of specialized way of doing so. These gemstones would also be highly valued in 2016, and it is likely safe to presume that said restaurant owner might have a means to convert those gemstones to yen. Thus we would be assisting the restaurant owner by trading the gemstones at value for gold coins. If that is not possible, the restaurant is unique and highly popular as indicated by the away team’s information, which means mostly likely every wealthy merchant has visited the restaurant, so an introduction to a jewelry maker or merchant through the restaurant may be possible,” said Jevek, “Trading the gemstones with the magic shop is unlikely to work, so seeking the local currency would be advisable first.”

Finn gestured ahead after Jevek finished the assignments. “After you Commander. I’ve never been here before.”

Finn, Eng

“I have not either but fortunately we do have this map,” replied Jevek.

Commander Jevek, 2O

Starr caught up with the group as they headed to the resturaunt. He decided to leave the larger diamond the Ensign bought behind. “I managed to catch the end of that, Commander. Let’s see what we can find out,” Starr replied as he looked around the town. He looked around,to see if there were any forms of transportation within the town, and if there were any people walking around in the town.

Captain Simon Starr, CO

“Ah, Captain, welcome back. We were concerned but it seems you are well once more. As you can observe, there are animal drawn carts and pedestrian alleyways. Rather quiet organized for a medieval town,” said Jevek, “If the reports are correct, the Japanese restaurant should be this way. As I was explaining to the young Ensign here, we could likely exchange these gemstones for the equivalent value of gold at the restaurant – the gemstones would be more ideal for the restaurant to trade for their local currency as they would not need to melt down the local currency.”

Commander Jevek, 2O

Captain Starr, Commander Jevek and Ensign Finn arrived at the restaurant. It appeared to be open, but they had arrived between the lunch and dinner rush, so it was a lull in the restaurant’s activity. The group opened the door, and noticed the portal like appearance as they crossed the threshold into the restaurant. A female employee welcomed them in the traditional Japanese greeting and showed them to their seats.

GM

Finn could barely take his eyes off the door, even after they’d entered and been seated. The possibilities of how the thing existed were spinning through his mind. The server’s light cough caught his attention and he lifted the menu. “Um, I think I’ll need a few minutes, if that’s okay,” he told her. She smiled and wandered away.

“Are we actually eating?” he asked the two senior officers. “Or just exchanging the gems for currency?”

Finn, Eng
