Sitting in the runabouts cockpit, Siadra finished the pre-flight check up and then opened a com-channel. =/\= Commander Enai to the bridge. I’m ready for take off. =/\=

=/\= Understood Commander and good luck. Just focus on your mission while we take care of your daughter, =/\= came the Captain’s voice through the speakers.

=/\= Thank you, Sir. See you soon. Enai out. =/\= And with that she maneuvered the runabout out of the hangar bay and flew straight towards the anomaly; not knowing that Liara had somehow managed to sneak into the runabout as well and was now hiding behind the boxes full of equipment.

=/\= USS Novak to USS Hail Mary. Prepare to power down your runabout systems completely, activate your EV suit, while we use the tractor beam to put you on an intercept course with the anomaly. =/\=

=/\= Aye, USS Novak, =/\= Siadra replied after glancing towards the officer next to her to make sure they were ready as well.

In rather an unusual set of circumstances, the USS Hail Mary was the modified heavily armored runabout, designed to withstand the plasma storm that was detected, and to absorb and discharge any excess power. The Commander wasn’t alone, though. A young junior Lieutenant engineer was assigned with her, who apparently was involved in the build and design process of the craft, a Lieutenant (j.g.) Kiko Asuka. With the systems shut off, and their EV suits active, the runabout’s armor was suppose to have the same strength as full shields with extremely thick plating. The plating would serve two purposes… materials for Engineering for the USS Asimov to meld down and repurpose, and with the additional supplies of fusion generators, food and water to be able to get the Asimov flying again… at least that was the hope.

The runabout blazed toward the anomaly as the Novak reconfigured its tractor beam to effectively act as a tractor beam and repulsor to fling the craft into the anomaly. But with all systems powered down, and the windows covered by armor, there was no way to see what was going outside of the craft.

=/\= Commander, please synchronize your personal chronometer. Syncing on my mark… 3, 2, 1… MARK! =/\=

Commander Enai was informed the exact timing when power went down, which is why they were syncing time, and being informed when the runabout was being launched in.

=/\= Launching in 3, 2, 1… MARK! =/\=

Siadra had been holding her breath during the countdown and was only sort of exhaling on the word mark. Sure, as a Starfleet Officer she had signed up for a life that involved dangerous missions and situations. But up until now she had served as I ship’s counsellor. The most dangerous situation she herself had face during a mission till this point was being held hostage during an away mission.

The Bridge crew repeated to the Commander and the Lieutenant over thei personal commbadges through their respective EV suits, and informed her the shuttle’s speed, all the way until communications cut off which was when the shuttle entered the outer gravitational field of the anomaly’s event horizon. The only reason that communications cut off was that the commbadge subspace was being routed through the Novak’s communication array rather than ship to ship communications which would have more power to continue transmitting.

As the craft entered the anomaly, some shaking was felt, and as quickly as the craft passed through. With precision timing, the craft accelerated, and both felt the craft being struck through the plasma storm as expected with the exact timing results. With Kiko’s help, they quickly powered on the craft, and activated the visual sensors in time to avoid crashing into the planet.

“We’re in geosynchronous orbit, Commander. Sensors have located the Asimov but there is heavy interference. Passive sensors are showing that they are on island but the island’s composition of elements is generating a natural subspace interference. We won’t be able to contact them, but we will be able to land safely. I am also detecting a medieval society throughout the planet, of various humanoid species,” reported Kiko.

GM

“Well done, Lieutenant,” Siadra replied and fully exhaled and then inhaled for the first time since the second countdown. She glanced towards the young engineer and gave them an encouraging smile before focusing her attention on the console in front of her. “Laying a course to land close to the Asimov,” she said and then suddenly frowned. Now that she was no longer hyper focused on the dangerous passage through the anomaly, she realised that Kiko was not the only one in the runabout with her.

“Aye, Commander,” said Kiko, as she plotted a course. “Activating external holographic projectors. We’ll appear to be a comet to the locals.”

Spinning around in her chair, Siadra said to Kiko, “Please take over the controls. I have to check something.” And without another word she rose to her feet and hurried towards the back of the craft.

Siadra had hoped that she was mistaken, but it wasn’t long before she found her daughter hiding away among the material and equipment they had stored. Falling to her knees she said a little harshly, “Li, I told you to stay on the Novak. How did you get in here?” Just as soon as the words had left her mouth, she regretted her tone and added much gentler, “I’m sorry. You scared me. You could have gotten hurt and what would I do without you? Are you okay, honey?”

Liara nodded and gave her mother a hug as best as possible with Siadra wearing an EV suite. “I’m sorry mummy,” she whispered. “I didn’t mean to scare you, but I was so afraid to stay on the ship without you.”

“I know,” Siadra replied as pulled off her helmet and gave the top of her daughter’s very curly head a kiss. “Let’s get back to the bow.” Rising to her feet again, she took Liara’s hand and led her to one of the other seats and made her sit down there before slipping wordlessly, to quite a shade paler than before, back into her own seat.

“Comm… Commander?!?! Who … who is this?” asked Lieutenant (j.g.) Kiko Asuka.

“My daughter Liara, who was supposed to stay on the Novak,” Siadra replied with a soft tremble in her voice and panic still clear in her black eyes.

“Your daughter? Well… I guess it’s lucky she survived using the extra blankets and an injection of oxygen from the emergency med-kit. You must be proud to have a smart little girl,” said Kiko, “Otherwise with life support being off during that period, she would have been in serious condition.”

Siadra simply nodded, grateful once again that Liara had obviously inherited Kialeni’s ingenuity and brains. At the same time the mere thought of what could have happened made her feel nauseous and sent chills down her spine. And so while paying close attention to her tasks, she also kept a tab on her daughter while also making a mental note to have her checked out by one of the medical officers on the Asimov as soon as possible. Just to make sure she really was okay.

“We’re coming up on the Asimov now… Commander, sensors are reporting also a Ferengi merchant vessel that has crashed as well. Dropping holographic projection and setting her down. Seems like security has come to greet us, Commander.”

GM

“Ferengi?” Siadra asked with a raised eyebrow. “That’s not what I would have expected, but being greeted by Security is.”

Once the runabout had safely touched down and the door was open, Enai rose to her feet and with one stern looked signalled to Liara to stay exactly where she was until she told her otherwise. She then walked to the door and shielding her eyes with one hand, said, “I’m Commander Siadra Enai. Starfleet sent us with supplies and equipment to help with repairs.”

Inside Engineering, the alert of an incoming, and non-crashing, vessel made Si’Rek smile. The big Takaran stood up and looked around at the current shift and said “Looks like we have guests… and they have a functioning ship. So let’s go see if they mind us ‘borrowing’ a few things, shall we?” and he motioned everyone to follow.

A few minutes later they all squinted slightly as they came out into the sun for the first time in a day or two, and he looked as the runabout settled. “It’s one of ours, thank the gods.” he said. That would save a lot of time. He watched as Security approached the ship and the hatch opened, but he turned to look back at his team before seeing anyone exit.

“Okay. We strip anything we can form them and the Ferengi today. Remember, we all have to get out of here, so don’t cut too much. Just enough. Okay? And once we can get what we can, let’s inventory and start repairs following the priority list. Everyone understand?” and the Engineers nodded.

Si’Rek, CE

As she looked out of the runabout and through the small crowed of officers in front of her, she thought that one of the Engineers looked familiar even though she could only see his back. But that was impossible. He was on Starbase 7 after all. So she pushed that thought aside and returned her full attention towards the security officers again as she waited for one of them to say something.

~Cmdr. Enai, XO

A face… wholly familiar and entirely unexpected came into Si’Rek’s view. He shook his head and then made sure his eyes were working correctly.

“Siadra?!” exclaimed the Engineer loudly. “Siadra… is that really you?” and he stood, mouth agape, and waved over the crowd of personnel.

Si’Rek, CE

Looking probably just as dumbfounded, Siadra was rooted to the spot for a moment or two as she stared at Si’Rek. A flood of emotions washed over her and sounding slightly breathless, she asked, “What are you doing her?” as she stepped out of the runabout and hurried towards him; disregarding the security officers.

With her head tilted backwards, Siadra came to a stop in front of him. “I thought you are on Starbase 7?” she asked while mentally sorting through the surprise of seeing him and all the emotions that came with his unexpected presence on this planet.
