“When will he come?” Liara asked for what felt like the millionth time since Siadra had told her that Si’Rek would join them for dinner this evening. “He should be here any minute, honey,” Siadra replied as gently and calmly as possible. And really, even though being asked the same question over and over again was getting a little on her nerves, she was too grateful to see her daughter happy and excited again to really be annoyed with her. Carrying the last dish over to the dinning table, she checked one final time that she hadn’t forgotten anything. Not that it really mattered. She could always get up and get whatever might be missing. And while she didn’t aim for a perfect dinner, she wanted their evening to be pleasant and relaxing. As much as that was possible with an over excited 6-year-old.

Right on time, the door chimed. Si’Rek stood outside, a tasteful pants and jacket combination over a white shirt. He carried a bottle of wine from his own stock, and small bag in the other hand.

He was a bit nervous as to the evening, if he was being honest with himself. He hadn’t spent time alone with Siadra and Liara since… well… since everything in their lives went so far askew. He had reached out more than a few times, but most often it was silence in return. And could understand why. Kialeni was an amazing woman and one of the best Engineers Si”rek had ever had the pleasure of working with. Her loss was felt by many, but none so much as Siadra. Si’Rek had wished he could have helped her… but the refusal to come back from her loss had ensured that didn’t happen. And he knew he was not alone in those she had pushed away. But now… here she was. Si’Rek was happy… but that tempered with wariness.

Up until now Siadra had kept herself busy. Not only to keep her nervousness at bay, but also everything she felt when she thought about Si’Rek. All the memories that came fully to the surface again. His friendship with Leni. His attempts to be there for her and Liara after her death. How she had pushed him, and everyone else, away time and again. But when she heard the chime all of that hit her with full force again and for a moment she stood frozen to the spot.

Shaking herself mentally, Siadra ran her hands down the fitted bodice of the navy blue dress she was wearing. The dress’s skirt was wide and and the white petticoat she was wearing underneath was just visible. Her feet were clad in simple black sandals with a slight heel and her long hair was hanging down her back in soft waves.

Before she had gathered herself enough to say anything, Liara had already run to the door. Her wild mane of dark curls flying behind her. The girl was dressed in a frilly pink dress, white tights and pink slippers. The moment she reached the door, she pressed the button to open it.

Si’rek looked in and then down, a broad smile crossing his face. He moved the bag to the hand with the wine and bent down and scooped the child up with the free hand. “My little Rocketeer! How are you, little t’k’luk?” and he hugged her close. “Oh you are getting so big! You’ll be old enough to come help me work in no time!” and he smiled at her.

He set her on the floor and looked at Siadra. “Siadra…” and he held out his arms to her.
