Liara was bouncing down the corridor and tugged at her mother’s hand as she tried to get to Engineering as fast as possible. Si’Rek had promised her the night before that he would show her everything! She was still nervous and homesick, but right now she was mostly excited. The moment the doors into Engineering came into side, she let go of her mother’s hand and ran off. But almost instantly after slipping through the doors, the little girl stopped dead and her nervousness took over again as she saw all those strangers.~Liara Enai
Just moments later, Siadra entered Engineering as well and looked sternly down at her daughter. “You know, you aren’t allowed to just run off,” she said as her expression turned into a warm smile. “Come one. Let’s look for Si’Rek.”

“No need.” came a familiar voice, and the Chief Engineer came into view form around a corner. “Welcome, tor’qe! Good to see you.” and he held out a blue and green hand to her. As he did, he looked at the XO. “Ma’am, you know my policy on Senior Officers who aren’t Engineers being in my Engineering bay. And since this isn’t one of my stated exceptions to the rule…” and he shooed her away with a motion of his fingers.
“Aye, aye,” Siadra replied with a laugh and salute before adding slightly more seriously, “Shall I pick her up later or will you drop her off?”
Leaning down, Siadra kissed the top of Liara’s head and said, “Have a wonderful day and listen to what Si’Rek says, okay?”
“Of course,” Liara grinned, only partly paying attention to her mother
And with that the XO turned on her heels and left Engineering, glad that her daughter was so happy.

Si’Rek looked down at Liara and said “Are you ready? I have so much to show you!” and he began leading her into the innermost part of his domain.

“I am!”, Liara squealed and skipped along side Si’Rek as they moved further into Engineering. Her black eyes were wide with excitement and joy and her dark curls bounced up and down with every skip.

Si’Rek showed her around to some of the less interesting and more mundane stations, before bending low and looking her in the eye “Now… do you want to see the most amazing thing? Like, ever?”

“Yes please!” Liara giggled, her black glittering with excitement. Skipping forward, she flung her arms around Si’Rek and hid her face against the side of his neck for a moment. Her voice barely more than a whisper, she mumbled, “I’m so glad you’re here.”

“Me too, little one. Now…” and he stood up and took her hand and led her around a bend in the bulkhead. There, in all its glory, stood the warp core.
Holding tightly onto his hand, Liara followed Si’Rek while her eyes flitted from one side to the other and back again as she wanted to look at everything there was to see. It wasn’t the first time she was in Engineering. Her mother had taken her there on the Four Winds, but they hadn’t stayed long.
“That, tor’qe, is a Warp Core. That is what allows us to move so fast through space. We send energy through there -” and he pointed, “- to that chamber. Inside are crystals that take that energy and help make a big bubble around the ship. That bubble pushes us faster and faster until we get where we are going.”

Her dark eyes wide, Liara looked up at it as she let go of Si’Rek’s hand and walked closer and closer towards it. With her hand already stretched out, she asked, “Can I touch it?”
