Paddy smiled, “I started helping my father recover from his experience at the Battle of Wolf 359. Through that, my mother suggested I study a psychology degree at the University of New Belfast.”

“That must have been really rough, for all of you. It sounds like you were all really close though.” Bethany finished off the last of the stew and sat back with the coffee. “So are you happy with the change to counseling? I know from experience it can be a lonely position.”
Gadi CoS

“I certainly don’t feel lonely at the moment, Commander.” Paddy grinned and extended his hand, leaving it open on the table across from Bethy, “But I like the chance to really get to know the rest of the crews I work under.”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

“I’m glad, Lieutenant,” Bethany reached over and squeezed his hand once and then pulled back. Paddy was nice and genuine. Bethany was all for flirting and a good time, but she wasn’t asking or offering more than that, not on a first ‘date’ and after that…well she may not be on board long enough for more than that. There was no telling when Intel would send her off for her next assignment, and she wasn’t aiming to hurt anyone. “So you like the Asimov then?”

Gadi, CoS

“She’s a good ship alright,” Paddy noticed the slight resistance in affection and decided to slow down, leaning back into his chair, “Have you been on many ships before you joined Asimov?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

“Before here I was on the Dresden as their CNS. Before that there were many ships, but none where I was part of the crew. It’s strange being on a ship where the entire senior staff has enough clearance to know what my job is. The makings of a unique little community, but…” she thought about her conversation with Calloway. Old habits of isolation were far too ingrained to break. “it’s a community none-the-less.”

Gadi, CoS

“It sounds as though you’re not the biggest fan of a Starship’s community element?” Paddy asked trying not to pry.

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

“I grew up in a very small community established in 1842. Everyone knows everyone. The first stranger to move there in over a hundred years was my father and me. I miss community. But, when you choose to join star fleet intelligence that desire, that need is trained out of you before you ever leave the Academy. To rely on no one and nothing. Oh we work in small 3 to 5 people teams from time to time because our skill sets go together, but the whole time your sizing up your ‘team’ so you can take over their job. I won’t get into why of that. So very rarely do we intel officers get to really partake in a genuine way of the community on a star ship.”

Gadi, CoS

“Reminds me of the little village in New Belfast that my farm was attached to,” Paddy replied, looking off into the distance as if remembering his time fondly.
