Gadi meets the XO

Posted by Commander Siadra Enai (Executive Officer) in Gadi meets the XO

Bethany left the captain and made her way to meet the XO. She had saved this meeting for the very end, so she would have time. The CO may run the ship and make the big decisions but it was the XO who handled the day to day details. It was also the XO who would head up most away teams and it was be imperative that they could work smoothly together, and that started with effort and cooperation and a clear understanding of what the XO expected of her. Finally reaching the door to the XOs office, Gadi paused, took a half second to clear her mind and rang the chime.

Lt Cmdr Gadi, CoS

Almost instantly a voice from the other side of the door called, “Enter.”

Bethany would find herself in an office that - at least furniture-wise - looked like a very standard office. Even the half unpacked moving box was probably to be expected considering that Siadra had arrived not too long ago herself. Two large, framed photos were resting against one of the walls, clearly waiting to be put up. A few mementos were scattered on the coffee table. In fact the only thing that definitely seemed to have found a permanent home was a picture frame on her desk that opened like a book. One half held an image of Liara in a ballet outfit and the other held one of Kaileni and a very pregnant Siadra; a photo that also had a place on a side table in her quarters. The other noticeable thing was that there were a few toys scattered around the room.

The First Officer herself was sitting behind her desk, working her way through a stack of PaDDs while her daughter had fallen asleep on the couch with an actual picture book lying next to her. Looking up from her work and rising to her feet, Siadra greeted the new Chief of Security with a warm smile. “Welcome Commander. Please have a seat,” she said and gestured towards the chairs in front of her desk. “May I get you something from the replicator?”

~Cmdr. Enai, XO

Bethany came in and took it all in quickly while returning the smile. Her foot falls adjusting to a softer and smother gait than her normal and her voice dropped, not a whisper, but a tone that would be on a lower register and soothing as to not wake up the sleeping child. “Please. I didn’t stop for food, and all I’ve had is coffee, so how about a strawberry smoothie.” Bethany moved easily, missing the toys on the floor and sat down at a chair in front of the desk.

“Sure,” Siadra replied as she turned towards the replicator to get the smoothie for Bethany and an iced, unsweetened herbal tea for herself. Placing both beverages on the desk between them and settled back don in her chair. “How are you doing? I hope you had a safe journey here?” Siadra asked with sincere interest before taking a sip of her iced tea.

~Cmdr. Enai, XO

Bethany picked up the smoothie and took a long draw off of it. One of her more favorite treats that her uncles had introduced her to when they had moved to Earth. “The journey out was pleasant. One of my mentors travelled with me. She came so she could fly my shuttle back. It has been awhile since I have gotten to spend time with her. The journey was uneventful and I hope her return trip remains that way. As for myself, I admit to feeling like I’ve run a marathon to get out here, but I am excited to get started.”

Siadra smiled warmly and said, “It’s good you got to spend some time with her.” After taking another sip of her iced tea, she asked, “Tell me about yourself, Commander. What made you choose Starfleet as a career and why Security? What brought you to the Asimov? What should I know about you and what’s something you like about yourself? Especially something I won’t find in your personnel file. Oh, and feel free to ask anything in return you’d like to know about me.”

~Cmdr. Enai, XO

“I’m a child of the Betazoid occupation, Cmdr. Those of us that survived, even if too young to remember, grew up on stories of how Star Fleet came and rescued us. I didn’t join security, I joined Star Fleet Intel. But my skills allow me to step into several different departments. So right now I’m a security officer. I joined Intel because that’s who led the core team that helped us. I wanted to do that for others. As for the Asimov,” she shrugs, “My previous assignment was finished and I was told the Asimov could use my skill set. Mainly electronic warfare and security. So I go where ordered. What you should know about me? I’m extremely observant, I have to be because people assume I’m a talented telepath when I’m not, but I’m just as good as a telepath. And I love to argue with computers. Something not in my file…I could take this whole crew into the wilderness and we’d survive for years make a whole new community. Has nothing to do with Intel training. My uncles are mountain men and all that implies and they taught me.” She looked over at the sleeping child. “I’m responsible for everyone’s safety, so tell me about her habits so if a mission goes south I know where to find her and keep her safe.”

Gadi, CoS

Siadra nodded here and there while taking mental note of everything Bethany said. Following her gaze towards her daughter, she suppressed a soft sigh. “Thank you for your openness and candour, Commander,” she said sincerely and then continued with a flicker of concern on her face, “And that is a very good question. One I’m not really sure I am able to answer. As you surely know we only recently arrived on the Asimov as well. Coming here has been … difficult for Liara. The Four Winds was the only home she remembers. Since coming here there have been very few times when she hasn’t been at my side and some of the places she liked best on the Four Winds don’t exist on the Asimov, like an arboretum. But I have a few guesses where or to whom she would go if something happens when she isn’t with me. If she is trying to find me, she’ll probably come here, to the bridge or out of habit the Counsellor’s office. She might also go to our quarters. Also, Commander Si’Rek is an old family friend and Li loves him and trusts him blindly. So if something happened she might also try and find him.” Looking Bethany deeply in the eyes, Siadra added with emphasis, “Thank you, Commander.”

~Cmdr. Enai, XO

“Has she been issued a civilian combadge? I can program the computer that if the ship goes to red alert to automatically transport her to a location of your choosing. I know we have another family on board. Larger ships now have family/civilian shelters in them for emergency situations. Asimov isn’t big enough for that, but it would be prudent to identify a specific area for them to go to in emergency situations. That way their families and command staff, emergency teams know where to find them and we know immediately if they are ‘missing’.”

Gadi, CoS

“Yes, she has. I took care of that right after the Asimov was back in normal space,” Siadra nodded. “And that is a wonderful idea. I think it would ease the mind of every officer who has family on board to know that there is a designated area for them in cases of emergency.” After a short pause, she asked, “As Chief of Security, is there anything you think should be addressed? And is there anything you need? As Chief of Security and as Bethany Gadi?”

~Cmdr. Enai, XO

“I will examine the ship specs in more detail and see if I can find a suitable space and then bring you the proposal for a location and action protocol. As for the rest, well I’ve been on board less than 24 hours. Give me a couple of days and I’ll let you know.”

Gadi CoS

“Thank you Commander. I appreciate that a lot,” Siadra replied sincerely, a wide smile playing across her face. She felt relieved that there were a few people here who would keep an eye on her daughter if need be. “Is there anything else you’d like to talk about?” she then asked.

~Cmdr. Enai, XO

Gadi considered a moment. “When considering the performance of the security department what are you happy with and what do you want to see improved?”

Gadi, CoS
