Visrian slipped into her quarters and released her bag onto the bed. She considered the room, a chuckle tickling her throat at the thought of her former roommate. She’d miss the woman’s humour and blatant disregard for caution; but, Visrian couldn’t deny relief in a peaceful evening without the shrill lullaby of Maeve’s favourite Klingon Opera. What solace she found in those shrieks and screams, Parr would never know.

Bowing her head in faint amusement, Visrian stole a glance at the bag flung haphazardly against now-ruffled sheets. She tossed it a smile and an empty promise that she’d attend to it later, then turned for the door.

The journey was short and pleasantly routine. A brief exchange with an engineer and a couple of passing nods escorted Visrian from her quarters to the bridge. She lingered, allowing her a fleeting second to consider it before she approached the Captain’s ready room. Tugging at her uniform, Visrian took in a soft breath and palmed the chime.

Sara wasn’t expecting a visitor just this moment, but new officers were arriving every day and repairs were still being done. “Enter!”

Visrian slipped past the threshold, a subtle smile woven onto her lips. “Captain,” she greeted in her approach, “Visrian Parr, your new CSO.”

“Ah, hello Lieutenant.” Sara rose and crossed from behind her desk, extending her hand. “Welcome to the Asimov.”

“Thank you,” she grasped Kiernan’s hand in a firm but hearty shake, “I hope I didn’t at a bad time?”

Sara smiled back “Not really. Since inheriting this position, I’m almost always busy, so I welcome the distraction.” She motioned to a chair on the other side of her desk. “Please, have a seat. Can I offer you something from the replicator before we get started?”

OOC: Thanks for your patience, Sam!! :)

“A glass of water doesn’t sound half bad,” Visrian shot her a grateful nod and released her hand. “How’s the new role treating you?” She asked, settling into the chair Kiernan gestured to mere seconds before.

Sara walked over to the replicator and said. “Water, cold. And orange juice, very cold.” She took their glasses and sat down behind her desk, sliding the water over to Visrian. “Trying not to survive only on coffee.” She said with a smile. “So. Lieutenant Visrian Parr… Tell me about yourself.”

Visrian’s expression tempered to a smile as she murmured a soft thanks! and tugged the glass to her side. “Easier said than done,” she mused with a soft chuckle that bought her a moment to think.

“I grew up in a small, isolated village that relied on lake water and local produce. Although we kept up with sanitary measures, we experience numerous outbreaks of bacterial and viral infection. So, I knew pretty early that I wanted to contribute to advancement in infectious disease. But.. I had no desire to work around blood or needles.” Visrian shook her head to avoid the involuntary wince creeping up her spine. “So, I worked curiosity and ambition to my advantage and pursued microbiology. I started out in R&D with Dohl Tech on Trill. While I valued the autonomy and creative room, I quickly learned that I wasn’t suited for a detached approach to science. I wanted to work with people, to collaborate. That realisation motivated me to apply to the Academy. I exist in a broader, critical role now, but I find that my skills and aspirations are better suited to being a science officer than a researcher.” She smiled somewhat pensively. “Besides, now I get to engage in research with people rather than for people.”
