Siadra felt a shiver run down her spine at the sound of the Tholian message, but managed to keep her expression calm and professional. As much as she disliked the whole sound of this mission, she had to lead by example and that was to do her best to make sure they’d be successful and make it out alive. After another brief glace at the PaDD in her hand, the First Officer tapped her combadge and said, =/\= Enai to Engineering. In order to make it safely into the nebula we need to shift the shields on a rotating frequency modification. I’m going to send you the formula now and please report back once all modifications are completed. =/\=

~Cmdr. Enai, XO

Si’Rek looked at the formula and let out a low whistle. It was complex as almost anything, but there was an elegance to it as well. “Commander, Engineering definitely going to have to assist in this. The power draw for some of these higher outputs will need us to be mindful of overloading the shield modulators.”

Si’Rek, Ops

Paddy, who had been leaning against the wall at the back of the Bridge stepped towards the viewscreen addressing Agent Pikelsimer, “What do we know about sentient life in this area, Agent?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Having monitored the situation from her little office, Shara had made her way to the bridge, if grudgingly. Stepping out of the lift, her eyes gazed on the nebula before them and a shiver crept down her spine. “Been a long time since I’ve been surfing,” she said quietly. This place they were going into was different from The Badlands, but only on technicalities. It was still just as dangerous, still just as tricky to navigate and still just as much a haven. And try as she might, Shara couldn’t shake the similitude between her past and everything they were doing here. A detail there, a plan here- it all seemed to be coalescing into a perfect mishmash of her life up till this point.

She hated it.

But her role was key and thus Calloway pushed it all away as best she could so that she could be the officer and Intelligence agent they desperately needed her to be.

Commander Calloway, CIO

Sara watched Shara enter the bridge. *Good. She’s here. Her talk with Siadra must’ve done some good.” Sara nodded her as she greeted Calloway “Welcome to the bridge Commander. Any advice to share for traversing territory like this?”

-Captain Sara Kiernan, CO

Shara wobbled her head slightly. “Yes and no. In my Maquis days, navigating the Badlands became second-nature, but I was less experienced with it then some. The problem here is that we’re entering unpredictable space,” she said as she approached the helm and leaned against the wall next to the viewscreen, focusing her attention on the officer who they were trusting their lives with to make it through the nebula intact. “You can’t anticipate the things that will knock us about and flip us around. The best you can do is treat it like surfing. Catch a wave and ride. Let the current that form because of the eddies and storms take us where they want to go and work our way eventually towards our target. And then when we get close enough, hop out of the current and brace ourselves for a rough final run at the station. And… hope we make it.”

Commander Calloway, CIO

“The insight is appreciated Commander. Perhaps you can assist at the helm, and help us ‘surf’.” Sara replied with a gentle smile.

A few moments later NE Karlsonn called up to the bridge =/\=The shield modulations have been input. We’re ready when you are.=/\=

-Captain Sara Kiernan/NE Karlsonn

Gadi watched the shield display on her console as it updated with the improved modulations and watched as everything cycled through to update the readings. With a quick, instinctive few taps on her controls she initiated the shields. “Raising shields, Cpt.”

Gadi, CoS

Paddy offered a reassuring smile to Commander Calloway and said, “Good luck everyone,” offering the same smile around the Bridge.

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Si’Rek took a deep breath and said “Shield modulations… active. But It’s very strange. The formula is correct, but shield strength won’t ever go above 21%.” and he looked back at Pikelsimer and Blue as if they were possibly in error… or just insane.

Si’Rek, Ops

With one eyebrow ever so slightly raised almost unnoticeably pursed, Siadra looked briefly at Si’Rek as if to say, ‘I don’t like this either, but I guess we have to trust them.’

Blue nodded once and looked at the Captain. “You will need to get us to 20,000 km from the nebula, at full impulse. Don’t go slow, Captain… that’s a must.”

As the Asimov dashed to the edge of the nebula, the controls started to light up like a fireworks display. Even at range, the nebula’s chaotic nature was felt. The inertial dampeners were maxed out, and the ship rocked and shook as the energy from the stellar storm began to take hold. Blue looked at Pikelsimer and the FedSec agent said “Comms… send the message on repeat.” The officer nodded and began the broadcast.

As they closed faster to the edge of the nebula itself, the ship groaned and sounds of protesting metal could be heard. Alarms sounded as power supplies overloaded across the ship, and the computer set the ship to Emergency Lighting. In the dimly lit bridge, it seemed as if they were headed to the point of destruction…

Her breathing fast and shallow, the First Officer held onto the armrests of her chair with all her strength. And while she tried to hide it those who knew her well or were good at reading people would probably be able to tell that she was terrified. Something she felt she wasn’t allowed to be. At least not when she was in public. She had to be strong. An example. So she dropped her gaze and focused on her breathing while trying to loosen the grip she had on her armrests.

Suddenly there was a massive flare from the nebula, and it shot directly at the Asimov. As the energy reached the ship, it seemed to grasp the shields and form a kind of bubble around the ship. Suddenly, the ship was shot towards the nebula at great speed, and they crossed the boundary into a chaotic maelstrom of lightning, swirling colors, and crackling energy…

Gadi checked her readings and the small sensor readout that fed to her console and that was all. As the ship shot forward she moved with the motion, and then as the forward momentum steadied she grinned. That was fun, Gadi grinned and stared out the view screen watching the storm rage around them. There was a raw magnificent beauty to it.

But they were unaffected. The ship moved effortlessly through the storm, as if it wasn’t even there. All systems showed normal, save for shields… which oddly enough were now off-line. Blue spoke up and said “Helm, don’t touch a thing. Just let it happen.” quietly.

For almost three hours, the Asimov slipped silently and smoothly through one of the most deadly places in known space as if they were in orbit around Risa. Nothing touched them, but the storm that was the nebula raged all around them. Scans showed massive plasma spikes, EM signatures comparable to black holes, and a level of radiation that would more than likely penetrate the hull of the largest dreadnaught in the fleet. Inside the ship… nothing was noticeable.

Then on the view screen there was a dark spot visible in the distance. As the ship moved closer, it was clear it was a space station… but one of a make no one on board had ever seen. It was completely crystalline, made of some kind of faceted black crystal that seemed to absorb the light around it. Eight large black crystal pylons evenly spaced and connected with six rings, one atop the other. As they got even closer, it was seen to be truly massive… at least twice as large as Starbase 1 orbiting Earth. The energy ‘bubble’ slowed them down and soon a port could be seen in one of the pylons, large enough for at least three Galaxy-class star ships to easily enter simultaneously. The bubble brought the Asimov inside, and Blue said “Welcome to Cantreken Station.”

GM

“It’s a sight to behold.” Sara marveled. So it begins. She rose from her seat and approached Blue. Quietly she said “Is it at this point we’re free to announce to the crew at large what’s afoot?”

-Captain Sara Kiernan, CO

Blue nodded and said “Absolutely. If I or Agent Pikelsimer can be of assistance, just let us know.”

GM

Sara nodded and strode to the center of the bridge. She inhaled a deep, deep breath. =/\=All hands, this is the Captain speaking. As you will have observed, we have entered the Cantreken nebula and are approaching a station. We are on a novel mission, assigned by Special Projects. we are undertaking a covert operation. An infiltration, and intelligence gathering mission that comes with high risks but higher possible rewards. To this end, the Asimov is as of now, off the grid. A fabrication of an insurrection led by myself will be spread back home. Crew, as of now, we are on our own. Backup is not coming from Starfleet. We will all have parts to play over the coming days, and if we work together, we’ll go home in one piece to have that fabrication dismissed. We were selected for this mission for a reason, the stakes are high, and there’s no crew I would rather put my faith in. Kiernan out.=/\= Sara sat down in the center chair.

-Captain Sara Kiernan, CO

At the sight of the station, Siadra felt her body relax slightly and finally she was able to truly let go of her armrests. With a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips and eyes, she looked at each and every officer on the bridge, including Blue and Pikelsimer, and then said with emphasis, “Well done everyone. Let’s continue like this so that we’ll all make it home and can put things right. I have faith in all of you and every other person on this ship. I know together we can do this.” Her smile widened some more and she took another deep breath as she slightly bowed her head.

~Cmdr. Enai, XO

Gadi took in the demeanor of the rest of the bridge crew. Some relieved, some more tense, all showing signs of anticipation of what was to come. Times like this Bethany was exceedingly grateful she had no telepathic or empathic ability. She didn’t know how other Betazoids did it, knowing what everyone else was thinking. Returning her gaze to the screen and the image of Cantreken Station before them, Gadi was already sectioning out the external layout, looking for weak points, speculating on how the black crystal like material of the station negated the storms of the nebula, and despite not having enough information, how best to get the ship out of there if need be. The grin crossed her face again, now that she knew about the station, she wondered how hard it would be to get stationed here? New places for adventure and information to be gathered. The thought was fleeting however as she pulled her focus back to what what modifications ‘they’ would be making to her tactical and security systems.

Gadi, CoS

As the Asimov entered the station, it seemed as if all light outside was gone. The blackness of the interior was almost palpable… until suddenly the ‘hangar’ lit up with a deep red light.

The space was truly massive. The Asimov hung in the center of a huge empty space. Outside views showed large crane-like arms hanging motionless for a moment, until they started to move towards the vessel. At that moment, an incoming communication came in and the comms officer put it on the viewscreen.

A Cardassian woman appeared and smiled. =/\= Greetings, Asimov. I am Project Director Val’tre. Welcome to Cantreken Station, our little slice of paradise in the middle of hell. =/\= and she laughed. =/\= Please go ahead and take care of any docking needs you may have. The gantrys will be connected and then you can power down all engines. When you are ready, no rush, I and my Department Heads will meet you in the station meeting hall. We have a security detail ready to escort you. Until the station gets used to you, you’ll need a resident to escort you wherever you go. But that shouldn’t last more than a day or two at most. We are really excited to be a part of your mission. And whatever you all need, we will make it happen. Talk to you soon, guys and gals! =/\= and the screen went blank.
