The transfer had not been Senek’s idea. The Vulcan had been perfectly happy aboard the Resolute, however she had been convinced that a lateral move to the Asimov was the best thing she could do. And as irritating as getting to know a new crew could be, it would also be an opportunity to learn more.

That was the thing with humans. As illogical and annoying as they could be, they were infinitely fascinating, and so as irritating as transferring to a new ship was, she could see how very different people might behave. Of course, the Asimov was far from only a human ship - and Senek would welcome the possibility of getting to know others as well. But she’d always had somewhat of “a soft spot” for humans. It had earned her ridicule back on the Vulcan ship.

A few crew members greeted her as she headed down the hall. Of course, Senek knew precisely where she was going, but she had some spare time, and she figured no harm was done in looking around the ship before she officially checked in for duty. Whenever someone said ‘hello’, she made sure to say something back. Humans liked that, though the point of it was lost on her.

But now, she was out of extra time, and precisely on the dot on time, she was outside the door of the Executive Officer’s office, and she rang the chime to let them know she was there. Then, she stood quietly and patiently, and waited.

~ Lt Senek, CMO

Almost instantly a voice from the other side of the door called, “Enter.”

Senek would find herself in an office that - at least furniture-wise - looked like a very standard office. Even the half unpacked moving box was probably to be expected considering that Siadra had arrived not too long ago herself. Two large, framed photos were resting against one of the walls, clearly waiting to be put up. A few mementos were scattered on the coffee table. In fact the only thing that definitely seemed to have found a permanent home was a picture frame on her desk that opened like a book. One half held an image of Liara in a ballet outfit and the other held one of Kaileni and a very pregnant Siadra; a photo that also had a place on a side table in her quarters. The other noticeable thing was that there were a few toys scattered around the room.

The First Officer herself was sitting behind her desk, working her way through a stack of PaDDs while her daughter was sitting on the couch, deeply immersed in an actual book and clutching a reddish-brown teddy bear to her chest. Looking up from her work and rising to her feet, Siadra greeted the new Chief Medical Officer with a warm smile. “Welcome aboard the Asimov Lieutenant. Please have a seat,” she said and gestured towards the chairs in front of her desk. “May I get you something from the replicator?”

Senek stepped into the office, quickly taking in the surroundings. Apparently, the Executive Officer was fairly new as well, she was clearly not fully unpacked. Perhaps that also explained the presense of the child, who judging by looks could’ve been no other than the Commander’s child. Children made Senek… uncomfortable. She did not particularly like them. So, she simply ignored the young girl’s presense, greeting the Commander as she sat down. “Thank you and no thank you, Commander. To formally introduce myself, I am Lieutenant Senek, to be your Chief Medical Officer.”

~ Lt Senek, CMO

Sitting back down, Siadra watched the Vulcan officer in front of her for a few moments. She sensed her unease, but wasn’t sure what the source might be. Of course she could just ask and with a Vulcan that might go over well enough, but that has never been her style. Not to mention that this was not a counselling session or psychological evaluation, but a senior officer reporting for duty. So she asked instead, “I hope you had a safe journey here and will be able to settle in well. Why don’t you tell me about yourself and please feel free to ask anything you’d like to know about myself, the ship or her crew.”

~Cmdr. Enai, XO

“I am trained in traditional Vulcan medicine and treatments, as well as the medical history of Earth and a few other planets, I’ve studied several different specialties however I am formally specialized in handling emergencies and contagions, infectious diseases. I’ve served on Vulcan and Starfleet starships.” She went on to list a few other similar facts. As for questions about the ship or crew, she asked, “What kind of ship is it? What kind of missions does it most frequently handle? Are there many families aboard?”

~ Lt Senek, CMO

“That is quite impressive,” Siadra replied with a small nodded before she continued with answering Senek’s questions. “Apart from my daughter and I there is only one other family aboard: The Chief Engineer is here with his wife and their twins. As for the Asimov: She is a Brazen-class ship, one of the smallest in the fleet. This class was designed and build to serve on the front lines and in combat situations. But the Asimov’s mission don’t seem to fall into those categories. At least from what I can tell so far. Though admitted I only just joined the crew and my experience in that regard is naturally very limited because of that.”

Senek nodded. “Whatever missions we may find ourselves undertaking, I will be ready for whatever is sent to the medical bay. I believe those are all the questions I have,” she said. “I do look forward to working with you. Is there anything else you would like to know?”

~ Lt Senek, CMO

“I know you only just arrived and will need time to settle in and get to know your department, but maybe you are able to answer this question already anyway: What are your plans for the medical department and how do you see yourself helping every officer under your supervision to reach their full potential, if that is something you see as part of your duties as Department Head?” Siadra asked curiously, hoping for an honest answer.
