Holding her daughter’s hand, Siadra walked into Sickbay to get her medical evaluation done at last and to get a check-up for Liara as well. She should have taken care of both before but between the rescue mission and settling in a new ship, it had fallen to the wayside. So it was with a slight twinge of guilt that she looked around Sickbay for someone who might be able to do both.

It was not the best day for two more medical examinations. The sickbay was slammed that day, and doctors and nurses rushed about helping people with various minor ailments and routine check-ups and physicals. Apparently, half the crew had waited until that day to get them done. Or to hurt themselves.

The doctor that finally approached them after perhaps a half an hour’s wait, was a Vulcan woman with short, black hair who stood just slightly taller than several of her crewmates at 5’11’’. The presence of Siadra’s young child seemed to make the doctor slightly uncomfortable, and she addressed only Siadra when she spoke. “Commander. What did you need?”

With one had resting on the top of her daughter’s head, Siadra greeted Senek with a slight bow of her head and then said, “I still need my boarding medical and I’d like a check-up for my daughter as well. But I can tell that you are all very busy at the moment. So maybe we should schedule something for another day?” Sure, her evaluation was a bit overdue, but a few more days didn’t matter and she didn’t want to add more stress to everyone in sickbay when they were already having a very busy day.

“I have some time. I can handle them myself,” replied Senek. “Whichever you prefer to do first.” She added as she led them to one of the biobeds. “We may be busy, but I am aware how overdue your physical is, commander, and I’d rather get it done before something else postpones it further.”

“Thank you, Doctor,” Siadra replied warmly and then looked down at her daughter. “I suggest we do Liara’s check-up first and then take care of my medical evaluation,” she continued. On the Four Winds she would now head to a nearby, empty biobed. But the didn’t know Senek yet and wasn’t sure how the Doctor would react to that kind of behaviour. So she remained where she was and waited for her to tell them were to go.

Senek led them to the nearest empty biobed, gesturing for Liara to take a seat. “I’m Doctor Senek,” she said, somewhat awkwardly. “Take a seat and I’ll do a quick scan.” She wasn’t that good with Vulcan children, either, let alone non-Vulcan ones, though she would try for the sake of pleasantries. She had a tricorder in one hand, and she held the little scanning node ready as she waited for Liara to hop up.

Placing her hands under her daughter’s armpits, Siadra helped her onto the biobed and then took a small step backwards. Far enough that she wouldn’t stand in the way and still close enough that Liara wouldn’t get nervous.

Fidgeting with the hem of her dress (a teal coloured, knee-length one with short, puffed sleeves and ruffles around the hem) and swinging her sandal-clad feet a little, Liara looked up at the CMO and gave her a shy smile. “Hello Doctor Senek,” she replied meekly.

“Okay, I’ll do the scan now,” Senek said, and readying the scanner, she ran the little probe by the girl, watching the screen.

When Senek scanned her, she would find that the girl’s pulse and blood pressure were a little higher than would be normal. But considering how nervous she obviously was, it most likely wasn’t anything to be concerned about. Especially since she was otherwise in perfect health and her physical development seemed to be with in the norm of what one would expect of a six-year-old child who was three quarters Betazoid and one quarter Trill.

After the scan, she double checked the results. “You’re in perfect shape,” she said, noting the high results. She also noted that Liara seemed nervous, and that would be a perfectly acceptable reason for the results. “Everything looks good,” she said to Enai.

“Thank you, Doctor,” Siadra replied with a soft smile as she motioned to Liara that it was okay to get off the biobed. She had expected that everything would be okay, but it always put her mind at ease when she knew for certain.

After hopping off the biobed, Liara had moved close to her mother again and nestled against her side. Bending forward, Siadra kissed the top of her daughter’s curly head ans whispered, “You have to let go for a few more minutes so I can get my check-up as well. Okay, sweetie?” Liara didn’t say anything but let go of her mother. Though her black eyes never left her.

Siadra then hoisted herself onto the biobed. As confident as she had been that Liara was in perfect health, she wasn’t entirely certain that Doctor Senek would be able to say the same about her.

“I’ll ask you the same standard questions: Any recent illnesses or injuries I should know about? Any travel outside the federation?” Senek asked Siadra as she set the scanner to do Siadra’s scans.

“When I was appointed First Officer, Command sent me on a rescue mission to help the crew get back into our space-time continuum. I dare say that counts as having travelled outside of Federation space. As for recent injuries or illnesses, I sprained my right ankle while dancing shortly before I left the Four Winds. But I had it checked and treated by the medical staff, so it should be in my medical file. Other than that I’m not aware of anything,” Siadra replied easily. This wasn’t her first evaluation after all and while she had a number of injuries over the course of her life so far, it was nothing ever anything out of the ordinary. At least not for a Starfleet Officer and ballet dancer. And all of them, at least those since she joined the Academy, where listed in her file as it should be.

When Senek scanned her, she would be able to detect tell-tale clues that the Commander hadn’t been getting enough and especially not enough restful sleep lately and that she was under quite some stress. There was also some noticeable tension in her neck, shoulders and upper back. But other than that she was in good shape. Her muscles were well-toned and she was clearly paying attention to get a well-balanced diet.

If Senek weren’t thoroghly Vulcan, she might’ve grinned. “Yes, I believe that would count,” she said as she took the scans. Several previous injuries were shown, but everything was well documented in her file. Presently, the commander was in excellent health, except… “Are you getting enough sleep, Commander?” She asked. There were telling signs of sleep deprivation and stress, something which ought to be addressed with a ship counselor rather than herself, but also fell under her field due to possible medical implications.
